Coastal Mode in a borderline unplayable state

As with almost everyone else i almost never really touch coastal besides when i have to do dailies, but since the update i have noticed that it is almost unplayable.

around 80% of your shots will just miss because someone at gaijin decided to make the waves as strong as if Posedion himself was on the battlefield.

Seriously who at gaijin is thinking "you know naval is really boring, you know what will make it more fun? water RNG! People wont be able to get enough of the mode when they die for the 17th time because the waves kept pushing their guns around"

I just dont get it, why have something like that in the game, it doesnt matter in bluewater because of the vessel size but almost every single coastal vessel is affected by this and makes it borderline unplayable.

curious how other people think of it though

idm sea state as a mechanic, as it hurts everybody equally (if they're in the same sized ship of course), I just wish they helped us understand it better. Allow us to choose a sea state in custom battles, so we can try some stuff out. I'd love to sort out whether it's actually better to be facing into the waves, or side-on to them in terms of gunnery, for instance. And maybe tell us what the sea and wind direction is going into a game so we can pick the most sensible first spawn. So tired of "surprise! it's night!!" or "surprise! it's a storm surge!!" going into a War Thunder game.

The devs actually started messing with waves a few major updates ago. This is what I recorded after "Winds of Change" update:

Spoiler

Later the devs silenced the waves a bit, but then they increased them again. Some smaller and lighter Coastal vessels are truly unplayable, because your guns face the sky for like 75% of the time.

There were few bug reports about this problem, but they were closed with a reason "not a bug" or "fixed already", after the second waves change (that didn't change the situation much tbh).

I'm like 99% sure, the devs just don't play Coastal. At least not smaller boats. The waves they added makes sense for big ships. Ships are not affected by these waves that much, but they still are affected by them a bit, and this can be visible when you shoot at long ranges (10km+). I think this is exactly what the devs wanted to achieve, to decrease ships accuracy slightly at long ranges. The fact, they destroyed boats experience is another thing. Probably the devs didn't even think about boats, when implementing new waves.

Like I said, these waves makes sense for ships. They don't make sense for boats. So I wouldn't mind if especially open-water maps had big waves, but for every map below BR 4.0, waves shouldn't be that huge and definitely not that frequent.

Especially the game engine can't differentiate between open or close waters. So we often have huge waves on maps that are surrounded by islands, and this makes absolutely no sense, even from realism point of view. That's why combined maps have this problem very visible. The devs can't just create huge waves outside of islands, and calm waters inside of them, the game engine doesn't allow them to do so. So they decided to just put huge waves on these maps, completely forgetting boats won't be able to have any fun there.

You know what's funny? I always loved Coastal, boats were my funniest game experience. But after the changes the devs made to Naval in last 1.5 year, boats are not even close as fun as they were 2 years ago. I actually barely play them nowadays.

I am 200% sure the devs don't play any naval (or helicopters) at all.

Coastal is prepared for seasoned and brave sailors. Those who dare to fit themselves in a floating coffin and charge at much larger vessels. Or a man extremely experienced in gunnery who can take out an entire ship with a few small caliber guns. This is the brutal fact laying there, and in foreseeable future, it would be worse.

That's how it is for now. (Well, excepting few boats, few, I mean M-802, etc.)

(You may find some Frigates lays at end of coastal line, they may good as SKR-1(Pr.159) or bad as Tacoma class. Whatever, they shares spawn with DDs so they are out of above statement.)

I still plays Coastal as my main activity. It is still "playable" for now, but experience and fun have been keep descending for a long while.
