tripod2008 584 Report post Posted May 1 All I would say Is that Gaijin needs to be careful of how widely advanced missiles propagate, as the R-73 doesn't exactly have any contemporary counterparts outside the AIM-95 (could similarly be equipt to a number of strike & fighter aircraft, w/ the associated HMMCS [AN/AVG-8 , -8A or -8B?]), and the next tranche of missiles (AIM-9M, -9R, -9X, etc.) needed to restore parity come with a number of caveats (very high available G, long range, and Countermeasure resistance) and advanced parent airframes. that would make the situation worse anyway. It will be interesting to see how Gaijin implements things going forward.
LeMemeAesthetic 266 Report post Posted May 2 The Su-17M4 never carried R-73's, I don't think I've ever seen a source claiming it could.

I did find one source that has been archived claiming it could mount it (Su-17 (archive.org)). Note that Sukhoi's old archived website (Which no longer exists as they are part of the United Aircraft Corporation) does not claim that it could mount it. Given that this website also lists the Kh-29D (a vaporware project that was never made, let alone produced), and says the Su-17M4 can only carry 1 Kh-28/29/58, I am inclined to believe it is inaccurate. This website does not list it as a possible store, as does Yefim Gordon (whose books I currently do not have access to). I would much rather see the Kh-59 added to the Su-17M4, as there is photo documentation to support that addition. Why though? Too many balance concerns with the datalink to see it any time soon (and can only carry one kh59 with the datalink anyway). At that point, just use the Kh-29T.
