How do I make messages appear then fade out on screen?

How do I make messages appear then fade out on screen without the need of completing a task? 

I have played in some custom battles where various messages lasting 3 to 5 seconds came up suggesting I do this or do that came up then faded out and that's what i am looking for help with.
