InterFleet 136 Report post Posted Tuesday at 08:20 (edited) Khrizantema, BMP-2M, and Ka50, Ka52, Mi28NM for example, Their missile guidance is based on laser beam riding. For hellfires, if you pop smoke and move, the missile will loss its target. But for Vihkr, 9M133, 9M123 they ignore smoke and go wherever the player points his curser to. So even if you trigger their laser warning receiver, and they pop smoke, you can still hit them easily because Vihkr is very fast. Should this be the case? Or should it lose guidance like hellfire? Alternatively, If a friendly pop smoke in front of the launcher, which should obscure any laser, the laser beam riding missile can still keep track, which seems very unlikely. Josephs_Piano 6,833 Report post Posted Tuesday at 09:02 From memory smoke needs to be of a particular type to affect lasers - it has to reflect light - ie scatter the beam - "normal" smoke is of limited use as a barrier
pasiasd 274 Report post Posted Tuesday at 11:14 Since both of the Hellfires in-game are the laser guided versions, generally speaking they can lose target lock due to a smoke screen. Essentially that would be the difference between laser guided and laser beam riding missiles: A laser guided missile looks for the laser reflection from a target and as such can be defeated by some types of smoke screens that (usually) diffuse the laser and the lock is lost. A beam riding missile is guided by a laser coming from the launching aircraft so a smoke screen doesn't affect their guidance at all, unless the smoke is in between the missile and the aircraft.

I believe Khrizantema has 2 kinds of missile, one with radio SACLOS and the other one with laser beam riding. The one in game is laser beam riding.
