Uncle J [email protected] 374 Report post Posted January 1 Hi! regarding your request for support: Check this thread: https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/570221-old-guy-1st-time-pvp-ab-air-exclusive-for-now/ I think there are lots of helpful topics for pilots included. I know it is long to read, but imho worth the time. Before you start flying i would also recommend going to yt and check DEFYNs channel. Guides for shooting, crew skills, MEC..all helpful. Last: Check the forum for realistic/arcade air battles to get a feeling what are current topics, the search function helps a lot. As a beginner go for the air force academy, too. Good luck and have fun!

Good luck and have fun! Thanks for the shout out to my beginner's thread. A couple of more things that weren't obvious to me in the beginning. Test flight - When you test fly a plane you own and have crewed, there is a mission editor button on the left where you can design a scenario against AI. This is useful for you to play with planes you fly against planes that have beaten you. The other way is to use Custom Battles and create one for yourself. I have a hard time getting the AI to up tier their planes and I am usually flying against weaker planes but it does help with situational awareness to fly against 32 opponents. I learned the most about energy fighting when flying a P40 against some biplanes. All my AI was dead and there were like 15 biplanes left. I would fly through the gaggle picking off the one that is highest and outside the gaggle - extend across the map, reverse and do it again. Turn fighting 15 biplanes would have ended in my death. Single, Dynamic and Historical missions - I like to play this the most. I get totally stressed out flying PvP. While my stats aren't bad for some reason I can't get used to getting flamed out. A lot of these challenges teach you a lot about flying and battlefield awareness. Daily Log in and Air.Assault.Arcade - Do this daily. The daily box for logging in is free and crazy not to take advantage - I have accumulated something like 15 free replacement planes. Once you get a fast plane with at least 1+kg of firepower mass start flying the air assault. Learn to zoom and hit bombers in the wing roots and engines to take them down more easily. Be careful of respawning too many times or you could end up with negative earnings in SL. I limit my spawns to 4 lately and that usually seems to work out. At the lower tiers the teams lose a lot and if you spawn 7 times you may get a good kill count and lose 7k SL. If I see the team is weak and we are going to lose I may go kill ground targets for a while even though I always shoot for a kill count of 15+ to "do my part" for the team. Premium Plane and Account - Look at the earnings, firepower and speed of planes you are interested in. In US LI Thach's F2A-1 is a worthy plane. In my Japanese LI the A7He1 is a great earner for me. In the British Line up I've had great success with Tuck's Gladiator MkIII but I try to fly those battles at a 1.3BR max. You still ay be facing some capable monoplanes but mostly it's beginners trying to figure stuff out and a few seal clubbers there for who knows what reason other than ego. Once I ground the Nimrod/Sea Gladiator I focused on the Hurricane MkII/Trop - It's a great plane. Huge firepower and how fun is it that it carries both bombs and rockets! I'll load it, make a pass at some ground targets and then unloaded do some dog fighting. Check 6 - If you fly into a fur ball you are going to die. Learn to look at the radar and see if there are any red stragglers and go for them. Also stay on the edge of the battlefront. I like to get to one end of it, poke my nose in at fairly high speed (energy) and break back towards the blue zone. Don't pursue anyone more than a few seconds and don't get into a turn fight until you can fly with keyboard and look with mouse. I agree but I still have at least one head on collision a day and it's always someone at a higher level than me - I thought those guys are supposed to know better - LOL... It takes two to collide - LOL... Edited January 3 by [email protected] Touch up highlighting and spelling
Uncle J [email protected] 374 Report post Posted January 2 5 hours ago, [email protected] said: Thanks for the shout out to my beginner's thread. Np mate! I want to point out the importance of the replay function. Depending on your preferred playstyle there is a point in time when you are tired of getting surprised, jumped on or you are just wondering where the hell these guys came from. Even if you are lucky enough to avoid unwanted surprises it helps a lot for your situational awareness and your ability to "read a game" if you watch the replay. At best from camara position 1 (free view, not fixed) or 2 (player view) of your enemies. Especially for your relative and absolute positioning versus the enemy team, individual players and for post-fight dogfight analysis it helped me to improve. I still use it almost daily either to assess potential opportunities i missed or to judge what was good and what was not so good. An example for dogfighting a very good fighter pilot and positioning yourself against 2 incoming fast fighters in a very low bomber: https://warthunder.com//en/tournament/replay/19696960539695106 From a post-fight view my decision was right to separate the most dangerous plane/pilot from the other 2, but it took too much time to kill him, leading to a very bad positioning in the 1 vs 2, but i equalized most of their energy advantage by the map border trick. And it shows in the last seconds the effectiveness of ai gunners of a level 75 ace crew against an A6M (kill) and P-63 (crit) within a few seconds. An example for getting 5 kills in a 2 vs 7 in B-18B but still losing the match, because i was not able to kill all of them: https://warthunder.com//en/tournament/replay/18512241054150763 It shows just the effectiveness of BnZ attacks and how important it is to keep your energy advantage. Anyway, i messed this up cause the remaining 2 enemies killed so many tickets that i lost. So, in other words i killed the wrong enemies and i was not able to kill the enemy ai planes which drained my tickets too. All in all, a very helpful tool.
AmigaForever 97 Report post Posted February 3 (edited) Altitude and speed is most vital. Be alert and look around as often as you can. Always try to be higher and faster than your opponents. Don't lose that advantage. Highest enemy plane is the one that will probably dive down and attack you at some point.
