Swedish/Finnish aviation Q&A (Questions and Answers)

Best answer

Hello! Since there are a fair bit of threads (and PMs to me) simply going over simple questions regarding Swedish aviation in War Thunder, i thought it would be a good idea to make a proper Q&A (Questions and Answers) thread for such. If you have questions regarding the Swedish aviation tree or related (aircraft info, data, weaponry etc) then post them below and hopefully they will be quickly and properly answered. This thread also covers the aviation of other nations relevant to the Swedish tech tree, such as Finland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Ethiopia, Biafra, etc.

EDIT: Note that anyone can answer questions below, not just me. However non-constructive or otherwise non-helpful answers/questions (etc) will be hidden. Generally try to avoid longer discussions, as such deserve their own thread.

How can you consistently succeed in this tree when the planes are overmatched in every tier? Its like flying a Volvo. You just have to hope you are slow enough for something to overshoot or turn in front of your guns.

I assume u are referring to the J22s and J21s? Just take headons and fly close to ur team. The velocity (900 m/s) + fire rate (1100 rpm) and damage per bullet (HE-T) is enough to essentially cook any plane in a short burst. Fire at long range and force them to turn away, afterwich u simply kill em in the frontal turn.

Sorry for being 12h late but I missed this thread.

Why JA37D? What's the point? If I'm aware at the moment it carries equipment that JA37C could carry as well. Its just copy-paste (or is it not? I'm glad to hear otherwise)

Besides 50/120/250/500/600 kg, are there any other bombs that Sweden used?
In particular, it feels strange that the A 21A-3 can use 600 kg bombs, but the A 21RB cannot use any bombs.
I wonder if the J 26 can also use bombs larger than 50 kg.

so let me get this straight... you are saying that all one can do is to hope somebody is dumb enough to take a headon? And when somebody will dive on you, using altitude advantage, you can only hope your teamates around you will be a) not busy b) looking at you c) competent enough to save you? That doesn't sound fun nor balanced to me...

the swedish aim-26b seems to be a perfectly decent/good missile, 15-20g overload and a proxy fuze, medium range. i dont get why gaijin is so completly anti to adding the aim-4/aim26 for the J35 Drakens might give a better explanation to why gaijin is so not willing to add it (or better than what Grom said: ''missile bad'')?

It can carry RB 99-AMRAAMs.

There are notes of a 1000 kg bomb m/47 but it seems to never have been constructed. There are also a variety of incendiary and armor piercing bombs 200-600 kg which can be added.

It was better suited for rocket usage and no use of bombs exist to my knowledge, except the use of its drop tanks as incendiary bombs.

250 kg according to documents but no images has been found.

The J35A and D cannot carry it, and the J35J (Finnish DKS) is not finalized yet. However, i cannot confirm or deny that it will come with such missiles for the launch.

Excuse me? I don't want to start discussion in here but where is RB 99-AMRAAM? Because all I see now is D variant with no purpose

I would assume its future proofing. Hopefully we can see it being updated with IR-OTIS in the future. However its best to discuss this in the main JA37 thread.

Grom denied it getting falcons only Aim-9J’s

Just now, SaabGripen said:

It was technically impossible unlike A 21A-3?

Well it lacked the central bomb pylon of the A21A-3 and the wing pylons were removed to make space for the air brakes.

Why is the Saab 105G‘s turn radius way larger (according to the stat cards and my feeling) than the Sk 60B‘s?
Isn‘t the 105G lighter because of its lighter engines?

Also thanks for creating this Q&A ^^

What are all of the different weapon systems that the jas 39A could carry. Mainly wondering about rb71, both unguided and guided bombs, aswell as what it could carry on the middle pilon not including the fuel tank.

Its much heavier due to the strengthened wing and other components. However its performance will be refined in due time.

RB15F, RB71, RB74, RB75T, RB98, RB99, GBU12, BK90, etc.
Central pylon is only for the fuel tank to my knowledge.

Could it use bombs bigger than 500 Ibs and could the A carry the gbu-39?

and why wasn't that added with Rb 74 and maybe Rb 71 instead of adding a copy paste viggen(no, it doesnt really get anything new because those 'upgrades' should've been on the 37C to begin with)

Theoretically its pylons can handle 600+ kg, and they are nato standard, thus its possible to hang a vide variety of stuff. The GBU-39 was introduced with the 39C iirc.

The Saab 39A is classified and requires a license from Saab, etc. It also requires a totally new 3D and flight model, etc. The JA37D was the logical route to go for this patch. The JAS39A will hopefully come in the future.
