Description:

The current form of the Ukrainian Armed Forces came about in 1991 with the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or the Soviet Union. During this time, Ukraine declared its independence and inherited several Guard's Army's and Tank Battalions which included several thousands of pieces of military equipment. Due to budget constraints, much of the equipment was sold, however Ukraine continued to develop its proven arms industry and exported its military hardware to country's like Pakistan, Thailand, Georgia, Azerbaijan, or the Congo. Ukraine today continues to be a global producer of arms and is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
This tree is to bring about the introduction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into War Thunder. This is due to the many unique vehicles developed in Ukraine throughout its history, even through the Soviet Union. In recent history, organizations/entities such as Ukroboronprom and/or the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau have coordinated in developing vehicles like BTR-3, and BTR-4 series of vehicles and the BM-Oplot. Ukraine has also developed new vehicles altogether such as the Varlan, the Otaman-3, and Kevlar-E.

The Ukrainian BM-Oplot, a heavily modified T-84 Oplot that features several enhancements in firepower, maneuverability, communications, and protection in the form of the Shtora-1 APS, and indigenous Duplet-2M ERA .

An advanced 3BM44U1 APFSDS-T round developed for the autoloader of the T-84 Oplot/BM-Oplot with over 600mm of penetration. It’s status and development into the 3BM44U2 APFSDS-T round remain unknown. Rough translation: "A promising Ukrainian development, the 125mm armor-piercing sub-caliber 3BU44U1 projectile features elongated rod and new firing device. The total weight of the round is 22.1kg, the declared initial speed is 1700m/s. Some advertisements have claimed that this round provides armor penetration of at least 600mm. Developed by TASCO Corp., in Kyiv."

The Otaman-3 IFV, one of Ukraine's newest 6x6 vehicles that was developed for the Ukrainian Naval Infantry Corps.

Different ATGM's and GL-ATGM’s produced by Ukraine. The ‘Konus’ is designed to be fired from 120mm barrels like that if the T-84-120 ‘Yatagan’ and the ‘Kombat’, the primary GL-ATGM of the Ukrainian Army, is designed to be fired from 125mm barrels like that of the T-64BV zr. 2017, T-84U Oplot, or BM-Oplot. The smaller RK-2's are designed to be fired from portable launchers or from light vehicles such as the Otaman IFV and the larger ones from dedicated missile carriers like the Barrier-S.

Ukraine has expanded its technology footprint with the introduction advanced ERA such as the Nizh (or Nozh) family which consists of Nizh-LM for light vehicles, Nizh-1M and Duplet-2M for heavy vehicles and main battle tanks. The Nizh-1M and Duplet-2M are designed to offer more kinetic and chemical protection than 4S20U (Kontact-1) and 4S22U (Kontact-5), which Ukraine also can produce. They also introduced or continued to produce Active Protection Systema such as the Shtora-1 and Zaslin. The Zaslin has 3x different types, the standard Zaslin, the Zaslin-L, and a Turkish development of the Zaslin-L, the Akkor-Pulat. The Zaslin is in use with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Türkiye.

Zaslin Hard-kill Active Protection System that can be equipped to main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and other platforms.

Other than ground vehicles Ukraine does have a unique development of helicopters, aircraft, and coastal craft that could be added like the MiG-29MU1 or MiG-29MU2 which fires locally developed ‘Gran’ air-to-air’ missiles, enhanced R-27ER1 and R-27ET1 missiles, and the Kh-29T Air-to-Surface missile, the Su-27UBM1, Su-25UBM1, Mi-24PU1, Mi-2MSB-V, Gyurza-M-class gunboat, etc. No generation V aircraft though.

The Ukrainian MiG-29MU2, upgraded to allow it to combat modern aircraft.

The indigenous ‘Gran’ air-to-air missile developed by the Ukrainian State Company Luch. It has been in service since 2007 and can be mounted on the MiG-29MU1 and MiG-29MU2.

Incorporated into the tree are Georgian vehicles to assist in filling gaps and differentiating from the in-game USSR tree.

In-game:

Ukraine has many unique vehicles that have a home in-game. Way to many vehicles in order to be placed as a sub-tree within any nation therefore here is an opportunity to add Ukraine as an independent tree in-game. In order to prevent excessive copy and paste (which is inevitable as Ukraine was a Soviet Socialist Republic/part of the Soviet Union), the tree would start similarly to Israel, beginning at Rank IV.
In order to start progressing in the Ukraine Tree, players must reach Rank IV in the USSR Tree.
Ukraine can support itself at high ranks with the use of the T-84, and BM-Oplot which has similar capabilities to other MBT's at Rank VII.

Arguments/Disclaimers:

Arguments for an independent tree:
- One of the main reasons why this tree was created is due to the vast amount of Ukrainian vehicles that could be added in-game. There are way too many vehicles to be implemented into the USSR tree without overhauling the U/I.
- According to mods/developers in the past, the addition of extra nations to trees is situational based on needs of the tree and in some cases based on vehicle manufacturer. The UK needed the addition of SA due to vehicle limitations. Same goes for Sweden receiving Finnish vehicles. They both had 4 lines of vehicles, falling behind other nations and a solution was developed. The idea is in the works with Italy receiving Hungary (and possibly some other minor nations) vehicles as well. China, and Israel may receive another line to close the gap between major nations. Germany received Argentine TAM’s in order to have a light vehicle line. The USSR tree is in no way in need of Ukrainian vehicles to fill another line of vehicles. The USSR tree only needs its gaps filled between BR’s which can be filled with existing Soviet vehicles. Russia has a lot more modern vehicles that can also be added to the tree. Therefore, the idea that Ukraine must be attached to the USSR tree is baseless as its based on the needs of the game.
- There isn't any other post-Soviet state represented in the USSR tree other than Russia.
- Copy and paste is seen within every tree. The copy and paste in this tree is negligible.
Potential compromise:
- Alter the U/I to allow for multiple-full trees in one, meaning the option to be able to select sub-nations within the USSR tree, with Soviet vehicles being able to be used fully between the different nations. Example, Soviet-era vehicles produced until 1991 can be used by Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, etc., while vehicles developed after that are broken up between the different nations depending on who developed it or if they purchased vehicles from one another. This however, isn't that significantly different from being its own tree that relies on unlocking Rank IV for the USSR.
There was no mention of captured vehicles due to political sensitivities. Please keep politics out of this suggestion.

The T-72MP received the French SAVAN-15MP Fire Control System with integrated VS580 Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV), new NOZH ERA covering the Hull and Turret in similar fashion to the T-80UD, optional Shtora-1 Soft-kill APS, and a 6TD Diesel Engine. With the new FCS, the T-72MP could operate in night conditions thanks to its thermal imagers, as well as engage targets at longer distances. The T-72MP would perform well as a close range brawler due to its armor, or snipe targets across the map with ease.

I voted no, because a majority of this tech tree is just copy+paste Soviet/Russian vehicles with a different skin. If there is a Ukrainian tech tree, it would also have to get air/navy/helicopters. And a majority of the planes and helicopters would just be copy+paste Russian vehicles.

What would be the motivation for people to play this tech tree? It will just be the same vehicles as in the Russian tech tree; except with limited and less-advanced options.

I have to disagree with the limited/less advanced options statement. Ukraine has developed impressive technology and there's not a way to incorporate these vehicles into the USSR tree as there is too many of them and U/I limitations. The alternate option would be to tab the nations together under the USSR tree after a major U/I overhaul. Anyways Ukraine has its own Close-Combat vehicles, Active Protection Systems, ATGM's like the Kombat or Barrier-212 system, and more that it developed itself. It has enhanced its planes, and helicopters which are upgrades of Soviet-era technology. The tree is also flexible to add and remove some vehicles to differentiate itself from the USSR tree.

Why not just remove all of the copy+paste vehicles? I don't see a point to have the T-55, T-34, SU-100, BMPs, etc. Just keep the modified vehicles that are unique to Ukraine.

I think "Israel" would be fine if it was just the most unique modified vehicles. I do not agree with the many copy+paste vehicles being added into that tech tree. I don't think it is good to use one mistake, to justify another.

I did that only to match the Rank IV start of Israel because I didn't know if it would be acceptable to start it at Rank V or even VI. That may have been too high but it definitely is an option. Gaijin does change its strategy often. I can create an alternative start at a higher rank to eliminate extra vehicles and post it along with the originally made tree.

I have to use some Copy and Paste to fill out some BR's/ranks. Small use of Copy and Paste I don't think will break the tree or anything. Its seen within almost all trees in-game. I can tweak the tree and remove some or if anyone has ideas to replace certain vehicles, Ukraine was also part of the USSR as well and fielded tank battalions with much of this equipment. Some were produced within the SSR itself in Kharkiv and other plants.

I have to use some Copy and Paste to fill out some BR's/ranks. Small use of Copy and Paste I don't think will break the tree or anything. Its seen within almost all trees in-game. I can tweak the tree and remove some or if anyone has ideas to replace certain vehicles, Ukraine was also part of the USSR as well and fielded tank battalions with much of this equipment. Some was produced within the SSR itself in Kharkiv and other plants.

What do you think about making a poll, which goes along the lines of "Which rank should the Ukrainian tech tree start from?" And then let people choose "Rank 4, 5, 6, etc."? I think this might be better, since we could see what the majority of people think. Usually, Gaijin will go along with the poll.

In my opinion, I think there isn't a problem for a tech tree to start from rank 5 or 6. I suppose a requirement could be to have unlocked 5 vehicles at rank 5 in the USSR tech tree, to research the new tech tree.

What do you think about adding some Western vehicles instead of the USSR vehicles, to fill out some gaps? For example, Ukraine uses the Flakpanzer Gepard, which was exported from Germany. I think this would be more interesting than another Soviet SAA.

Don't get me wrong, the suggestion has plenty of unique and interesting vehicles, but even now it has more than this one.
Sure, not all presented vehicles need to be added, it's just a list Gaijin could pick and choose from, but my point stands.

Of course not, but this could also be used against the Arab League idea.
Requiring so many nations that don't have a big military and political connection with each other to be put together in order to get a coherent ground tree is quite strange when compared to a single nation that can also get something proper.

A previous point was also made regarding air and naval vehicles. Ukraine doesn't possess a lot of unique stuff there, but neither does the Arab League tree, despite the scale of the tree at hand.
I think that in this context it is strange to support one idea, but not the other.

I’m open to the idea of vehicles like the Gepard, I have it in my future additions section. When I originally made this tree, I put focus on Soviet equipment since it was a former Soviet Republic.

That could be true. I think that depends on what Gaijin thinks or wants. If Gaijin thinks that they can make a profit from adding a certain tree, I think that they will add it. Iran is a single nation which can get a coherent tech tree. Iran used to be part of my suggestion, and Iran has a lot of vehicles. I suppose adding Iran is a stronger idea than adding the Arab League.

I think that Gaijin added the Israel tech tree, because they saw a lot of people playing from Israel. And they got a lot of sales from the Israel premium/event vehicles (the ones in the US tech tree before they added the Israel tech tree.)

So the reason why I did what I did so far is to prevent confliction of any future trees like the Polish tree, avoid copy and paste Western technology for the time being to put a focus on Ukraine's development of Soviet-era equipment, and to avoid vehicles that are a result of the conflict with my one real exception being the MT-LB-12. I'm trying to avoid vehicles that resulted from the conflict because as seen above in the comments, it's already drawing 'No' votes due to this tree's association to it. I want to put a focus on the unique developments that Ukraine has to offer. I mean the Zaslin Hard-kill APS that Ukraine developed is expected to be used by the Turkish Army on there MBT.

A few other vehicles that could be added could come from Georgia, as Ukraine and Georgia share and develop technology together.

Georgia:

BRDM-2 (2A14)
Lazika IFV (which is expected to have ATGM and SAM variants)
T-72 SIM-1

They also use the BMP-1U and Kombat GL-ATGM's developed by Ukraine.

I will add a poll though with the additional questions, like I said, I appreciate the feedback.

I'm on the fence about Ukraine being its own nation. I realize there is a precedent for rank IV and up trees thanks to Israel, but I'm not sure if Ukraine has enough, particularly in the aircraft department. I feel like it'd do better as a sub-tree, but that is so hard to do... It's a tough situation, but however Ukraine is implemented will be good as long as it is a sub-tree at minimum and not just a sprinkling of event vehicles.

Which is all good, I just don’t think at the current way the game is set up that there’s enough room to add all the Ukraine vehicles to the USSR tree and, I’ve stated this before and I’ll state it again, I don’t really consider it a USSR tree, it’s a Russia tree. There isn’t any other representation of any other SSR’s in the tree except Russia. IMO vehicles pre-1991 are primarily Soviet designs from Soviet design teams that have been produced throughout the USSR and don’t really count as much. Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkmenistan, etc., all of which have some unique vehicles that could’ve been added but we received Syrian vehicles which only have to do with Russia really and some Warsaw vehicles from Czechoslovakia/Slovakia. It’s all a missed opportunity which could still be fixed. I think Ukraine could do well as a sub-tree that supports another nation like Poland, an Eastern European tree of some sort, or a standalone tree that itself has a sub-tree in it. If U/I changes are made as well as significant changes to the structure/standard of the USSR tree, it could still see some possible work into the USSR tree.

Another note is copy and paste is expected. Soviet vehicles are found all over the world. They are not exclusive to the USSR. Many nations used them just like many nations used vehicles like the American M4 Sherman, M60, etc.

Also Ukraine does have a development of helicopters/aircraft that could be added like the MiG-29MU1 or MU2 which fires locally developed ‘Gran’ air-to-air’ missiles or enhanced R-27ER1 and R-27ET1 missiles, the Su-27UBM1, Su-25UBM1, Mi-24PU1, Mi-2MSB-2, etc. No generation V aircraft though. There is also some Coastal development as well for Naval.

I’ve done it with all of my tree suggestions and added the Army’s motto or some type of motto to each one. I will remove it but…

Big +1, however, I am very on the fence about vehicles that were simply developed or built in Ukraine when it was part of the USSR. Also, the BRM-1K and Pbv501A could make nice Rank IVs since neither of them have access to ATGMs and rely solely on their 73mm cannon, which leaves much to be desired in WT.
