It is not the first time that I notice a strange behaviour of some tanks. E.g. I just fired 6 shots at a PZ III B with my Stug III A. Some with Heat 100 mm, a couple with APCBC 52 mm, TNT 102 g. What happened? Nothing!! I hit him but it seemed to have the skin of a Churchill. Look at the specs of this Pz III B (hull and turret). Come on!!
