[Development] Rankings Challenge - feedback thread

Rankings Challenge is a regular competition in which everyone is welcome to participate, whether solo or with friends on an equal footing, using pre-set vehicles. Victories in these battles will raise your rating (you can read here about how ratings are calculated), and the higher your rating, the better the prizes you’ll receive!

During the season of Rankings Challenge the players will be able to participate in several events, divided by type: for example, “Aircraft 1v1”, “Ground vehicles 2v2” or “Mixed 5v5”. During the season there might be numerous competitions of one type: for example, once a week the new “Ground vehicles 2v2” events will be available. Thus the players will be earning the rating both for each competition individually, as well as for the leaderboard of each competition type. Therefore, the prizes will be awarded for both the entire season and separate competitions.

In Rankings Challenge, each participant will receive a preset collection of upgraded vehicles and an experienced crew that will allow the players to prove who’s stronger on an equal footing. Parity will also be enforced by the same limit of battles per day for each player, a realistic battle mode with markers, and small difference margin of battle rating of your competitors that you’ll be able to meet in the battles.


Rankings Challenge will be open three times a day so that the players from different time zones will be able to pick a comfortable time. Before the matches which results will be entered into the leaderboards, the players will be able to participate in practice battles. They are completely identical to the competitive matches and will allow the players to test out the vehicles before important battles. The timetables for practice and rating matches will be available at the webpage of each competition.

A single competition will usually take place over 2 or 3 days. However, each following day of the competition the players may be offered vehicles of a different country, and each following week, the vehicles’ rank may be changed.

To view the rating battle cards, click the corresponding button in the main menu, then pick any competition available at the moment or press “Participate” to sign up for future matches.

Testing the Rankings Challenge

From September 6th till September 10th join the testing of the Rankings Challenge. In this test mode four competitions will be available — two for each competition type: “Aircraft 1v1” and “Ground vehicles 2v2”. Squads can participate in the 2v2 battles, with the squad’s rating being determined by the highest rating of two players.

The number of matches that will take place simultaneously will be limited. As such, in case of a large number of participants, waiting in queues may occur.

Wings of Prey 1 (Rank II)

From September 6th until September 8th.

  • Day 1: Bf 109F-1 (Germany)
  • Day 2: Yak-1B (USSR)

Wings of Prey 2 (Rank IV)

From September 8th until September 10th.

  • Day 1: Spitfire F Mk.XIVe (Britain)
  • Day 2: P-51D-30 (USA)

Shoulder to Shoulder 1 (Rank IV)

From September 6th until September 8th.

  • Day 1: Char 25t (France)
  • Day 2: T-44 (USSR)

Shoulder to Shoulder 2 (Rank VI)

From September 8th until September 10th.

  • Day 1: XM-803 (USA)
  • Day 2: Type 74 (E) (Japan)

Aircraft battles will take place on the “Gladiators” mission which many virtual pilots should be familiar with, and will consist of several rounds. Ground vehicles will compete on the following missions: [Conquest 4] Advance to the Rhine, [Conquest 2] Sinai or [Conquest 1] Normandy with 3 respawns per player.

Rewards

Sport camouflages, vehicles with unique camouflages, player icons, decals, and titles — all of these awards will be available in the future seasons of Rankings Challenge. For our test run we’ve prepared trophies and a title!

  • For 10 victories in each competition the players will receive a special trophy containing one of the following items:
    • RP premium booster for 50% for 5 battles.
    • SL premium booster for 50% for 5 battles.
    • Wager set.
    • Orders set.
  • Players who place 1 through 100 in the leaderboards of “Wings of Prey (test season)” will receive the “Gladiators” decal, while players who place 1 through 1000 will receive the “Rankings Challenge tester” title.
  • Players who place 1 through 100 in the leaderboards of “Shoulder to Shoulder (test season)” will receive the “Steel Legion” decal, while players who place 1 through 1000 will receive the “Rankings Challenge tester” title.

Further plans

We plan to regularly hold new seasons of Rankings Challenge with a duration of a month or more for all types of vehicles and all nations in War Thunder. Apart from the listed formats in the future there may be “Special”, like races or free deathmatch modes.

Some competitions of the Rankings Challenge may become qualifications for larger competitions based on the existing tournament service. Such competitions will likely be held mid-seasons with streams and activities for the viewers.

This is TEST run.

Prizes mentioned by me in quote on previous post are from future runs.

In this TEST run, prizes are different, also listed in article.

This looks quite cool!
Am I right in thinking that this will be similar to the old tournaments you used to host but just simpler to access in-game and more accessible for players? 
I am looking forward to trying this out

All fine and dandy, but where are the AB modes!?!?!?! Stop trying to suffocate AB, PLEASE. First you deleted AB squadron battles for no good reason, now you introduce a new mechanic with no AB included in it and then you are thinking of snuffing AB altogether! Really!? There is a perfectly healthy community which plays AB in all aspects of the game. Why cant you people understand once and for all that arcade is not a training mode, not a beginner's mode and definitely not a skilless mode. The discrimination is absurd. I can say with great certainty that the best and most dedicated crowd of people in this game which has spent the most on premiums and the most time populating this game are arcade players. This drive of Gaijin to equalize all odds and bring everyone to a 50% average through randomized mechanics and research progress nerf is honestly disgusting and I personally, a daily player for about 8 years now will not partake in this any longer the second AB stops being a thing. Normalize the research in AB battles and see how quickly you will have it being more populated. I can assure you I will be a drop in a large ocean of ex AB SQB players which will do the same. We do not want to pretend like we are real pilots, no, we are here for dynamic and thrilling gameplay with almost unlimited potential, RB does not even come close to delivering such an experience for me or my friends. This is literally my 3rd post in the forum so I dont come here and complain for kicks. This is a backstab towards some of your most loyal fans Gaijin, don't do us like that please, please.

I love it, but i am still sceptical, considering that Gaijin made many similar "TEST runs". They where succesful and the community loved it, but Gaijin never gave us a Not-Test-Run-Version yet. Just now another "TEST run". But hope dies last, i'm trained in waiting, i play WT for nearly 10 years now. :004_2:

love the new look of the Test run 

my only issue with it's only first 1000 get the Rankings Challenge tester” title. 

it's only a test run make it 5k or 10k I just hope the amount of Reward giving changes 1k is not good 5k will be good at least this years make 5k or 10k we close to the 10 years anniversary of WT !

even in the bigger tournaments that have Rare Tanks make it 5k or 10k players at least this years !

I think there needs to be an explanation/instructions/rules on the screen, hover help, or at least a link to the page on the WT site.  I stumbled on to it and had no clue what I was doing. Just click click click... oh I'm in a game!  But then I'm new to WT.  So take it as the newb's perspective.

Played few air matches and thats what I think:

-Preparation takes to much time. If someone joined and spawned I think he is ready to go, no need to wait 30 sec before you can even move (and we have to wait before start of every round).
Also we can't fire for 20 seconds after the round has started and honestly I don't know. On the one hand it requires more skill to win, sometimes very long, dogfight, but on the other killing enemy and surviving a headon also takes some skill (and little bit of luck), worst case scenario both players die and round is a draw. I think I would prefer second option without 20sec before you can fire.

-It's probably the game's as a whole problem but I had 2 situation where we crashed into eachother after firing at the end of the dogfight and both times I was dead and enemy wasn't.
1. I lost my wing and began to spin without control (counted as dead) and enemy was mostly fine and alive. -> Well ok, sometimes happens, I think not much to do about it without changing the damage model so to much work.
2. We both lost one of our wings and began to spin, but I was counted as dead and enemy wasn't, so he won the round. -> Considering it's meant to be competitive mode with ranking etc. there shouldn't be anything like that happening.

-I know that more matches means more accurate ranking for every player but at the same time 50 battles is quite a lot. One of my matches lasted for about 10 minutes because of how long one of the dogfight took to determine the winner.
Also we don't earn ANY silver lions or RP, I know that being limited to 1 vehicle means RP probably won't go where we want and/or will be limited but come on. If good rewards won't be guaranteed (not saying they should) for X matches played then I think for most of the players it will be a waste of time, they won't earn SL or anything special (except orders or boosters but I don't think it will be worth) and at the same time waste their time which they could spend to research new vehicles while playing normal battles, which are also more entertaining. It means that I fear ranking battles will be played only by best of the best, able to earn top rewards so their time won't go to waste.

I think idea is great but needs some polishing.

Only feedback, please remove sim controls option from RB air duels.
Sim gives a huge advantage in flat turn in planes like 109s

This is a very good addition to the game!

but like the previous comment, i think that you should remove sim controls from RB duels.

it would also be nice to have an option for late jets, since most Air players play Top tier, the new TSS Jet Strike Format would be perfect for this.

love seeing that in the game!

before duelling was hard to get into,

 

PRO:

* eays to get into ranked 1vs1´s are great

* great addition to the game

 

CONS:

* no sl or rp rewards

* changing belts before each game is annoying

* there is no hint after dying that u should not go back to hanger but that there is another match waiting

 

Recommendations:

* save ammo choice (maybe from exisiting tech tree vehicle)

* give a hint when the 2nd round starts so people arent leaving after the first one

* make some classes in the matchmaker, like ranks, where in the early ones ur not allowed to use simcontrols or manual engine control

In my openion, It is good things tournaments stuff ever I seen, even better than "Dog tag".

 

However, In the ARB duels, please force the instructor to enable it and make impossible to disable it. 

As someone have already pointed out, using SIM controls to disable the instructor for most aircraft 1x1 is quite unfair to most ARB players who use keyboard and mouse. Because If you disabled instructor, you can basically turn faster against players who is using instructor.

I think that there's a lot of potential - we haven't seen an event like this in quite some time actually. Depending on the vehicle prizes, it could draw in a lot of players. I'd say it would have to be a completely new vehicle to maximize participation, though.

Just to be sure: You guys want "Full-Real controls" to be removed since that is the only control scheme allowed in Sim? And you want to keep the option to use "Realistic controls"?
