V-Sync Greyed Out?

  • Suggestion Moderator

Hey all, I'm having difficulty with the VSync option. It was working fine not one day ago, but now I discover that the setting is greyed out and doesn't seem to work. The framerate in game exceeds my laptop monitor refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Few key details:

  • Everything I changed, be it the game settings, config.blk, or NVIDIA control panel, didn't fix the issue. When I capped my framerate in the control panel, the screen started tearing.
  • I take my computer from home to my university in my commute. At home I have a 240 Hz external monitor that I plug into, but I've never had problems with the VSync when switching back and forth until now.
  • I did not recently update my graphics driver. After I noticed the problem I tried updating my driver but that didn't change anything.
  • Restarting my PC and game didn't help either.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I know it's not super dangerous but I'd like to avoid reinstalling my graphics driver unless as a last resort. Any other ideas for solutions? I want to say that maybe the VSync is working regardless of what the FPS meter says, but the option being grey makes me think differently.

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'm aware there was an update just before the time frame we started having issues, so maybe that's the culprit. I dunno how it would mess up VSync though... in any case, I suppose the best thing to do is report the problem and wait for a fix. At least it probably isn't my hardware from what it sounds like.

Same, everything works fine until yesterday. I went on game and discovered that the vsync was not working despite it said it was on, and the game was producing more frames than my refresh rate.

I reinstalled the game and the vsync worked the first time I opened it, and it did not work afterwards.....

Oh wow, I'm surprised others have this issue too, I tried everything and couldn't get vsync or adaptive sync to work at all, even Nvidia control panel seems to fail.

@FruxioCould you be a little more specific about your setting? What is the vsync setting in Nvidia control panel and what is your resolution? Thanks!

Vsync is turned off in Nvidia control panel. I tried with the option turned on but nothing changed ingame so I let it turned off.

Setting up adaptative vsync with fullscreen is the only thing that is keeping FPS capped at my monitor fresh rate. And my resolution is 2560x1080.

Same thing is happening to me, a temporary fix that I found is to put it on adaptive vsync and fullscreen (i was playing on fullscreen windowed)

i tried that and it doesn't work for me, my FPS is at 58 in hanger and 100+ when playing a game

1. you guys should maybe post your system specs (OS incl. version / build, gpu and driver version) to see what you got in common - for me vsync is working just fine but i'm on Win7 ^^

2. you could upload a client log (*.clog file located in the ..\War Thunder\.game_logs\  folder) so i may have a look into it - there may (or may not) be a hint given in the logs.

3. you could (or maybe should) file a bug report in the appropriate section.

I just noticed this issue today as well, V-Sync greyed out, getting like 140 fps but it appears laggy with high input delay. Rtx 3080, I7-8700k, 32gb of ram... only game where this issue happens.

Same.

I haven't played in like 2 weeks, I came back today and it's like my G-Sync is also not working anymore in this game. It's a night and day difference between this game when panning the camera with a perfectly stable 120fps vs AC Odyssey at only 90fps capped. This game much more jerky/hitchy even though 120fps average stable. Doesn't look like screen tearing just some weird jerkiness when camera panning.

check this bug report - https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/523197-v-sync-and-adaptive-sync-just-wont-work/

(and maybe add your information as well)

like i stated in that thread it appears to happen to users with nVidia RTX cards only ?! and what you also got in common

is that you are on the 466.27 drivers - might be worth trying an older version to see if it is related to that particular driver.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have found a fix for Nvidia cards.

1. go to Nvidia Control Panel

2. "manage 3D-settings

3. global Settings

4. select "War Thunder (aces.exe)" if this doesn't appear, start War Thunder

5. scroll down to "vertical synchronisation" select "on"

6. press "apply"

7. restart War Thunder

Idk if the settings are called different, because I am german.

(edit: Its still greyed out but it has limited the fps to 60 for me)
