[Event] Testing of the missions for the new PvE game mode - Feedback

We are starting to work on a new game mode for ground vehicles! It features story-driven PvE missions that you will be able to complete with your friends.

The test is available for everyone from 13:00 GMT on the 22nd of March until 13:00 GMT on the 24th of March in the Events and Tournaments tab.

We invite you to try the first 3 missions of the game mode:

  • Eastern Front 1941 (Poland) - German Pz. III F’s are under the control of players. To participate it is necessary to have one vehicle in the hangar of rank II or above.
  • Eastern Front 1943 (Fire Arc) - Soviet Т-34-57’s are under the control of players. To participate it is necessary to have one vehicle in the hangar of rank IV or above.
  • Middle East 1973 (Sinai) - US M48A1’s are under the control of players. To participate it is necessary to have one vehicle in the hangar of rank V or above.

Scenario of the test missions

Each mission consists of 3 stages: offensive, clearance and defense.

  1. As part of the offensive, your team must break through to the capture zone, while destroying the forces of the defending AI opponents which have anti-tank cannons and ground vehicles.
  2. The cleanup stage will take place on the city streets. At the end of it you will have time to prepare for the most important part of the battle.
  3. In the final phase the enemy will try to re-capture the city in a massive offensive. Enemy vehicles that break into the city will take the advantage scores until you will destroy them. You will lose if you allow the enemy to dominate the city.  

Game mode mechanics

  • Testing will be carried out in AB game mode.
  • In a mission, the player will receive a vehicle with a preset crew level and all modifications except artillery support.
  • Economy and achievements in the missions are switched off. There are no additional or other special awards in this testing phase.
  • The test may be closed ahead of schedule for technical reasons.

We plan to improve missions based on your feedback and test results. We also plan to add random events and secondary tasks, introduce new game mechanics and also develop a few more scenarios.

Can't Wait To Test This Revamped PvE Gamemode.

Don't Care Wether It's AB Or RB, Aslong As It's Playable I'm Fine With Any Gamemode.

Hopefully This Doesn't Get As Easily Stale As Current PvE Where One Defense And You've Seen It All Feels Exactly The Same, Riddled With Issues In Its Own Right And Plain Out Not Profitable In Any Meaningful Way For Long Term Grinding.

I Truly Hope This Might Bring New Life Into PvE For War Thunder And Be Expanded Upon.

  • Make More Use Of Emplacement Models (Tank Trenches, Sandbags, ..) 
  • Give Defending AI A More Smart Moving Pattern As Peeking From A Corner Instead Of Just Having Tanks Sit There.
  • Friendly AI:
    • Scenery AI Tanks Engaging The First Objective, Dying & Giving Some Extra Cover
    • Add Escort Objectives Of APC's, That Once Arrived On Last Objective Gives Extra AI Defense If They're Still Alive
    • Infantry?
  • Change Skins Of Tanks According To Setting (Pz.IV G Shouldn't Be In Afrika Camouflage In Kursk, Desert Camo For T-55, T-62)

I've juste finished my first mission.

I've been surprised by the event, as I didn't saw any news.

 

So here's my feedback:

 

-Arcade doesn't suits to this gamemode, it's way too easy and fast.

-it's a really good idea, playing in a realistic environment with historical vehicles make the immersion great, it would be even better in realistic difficulty.

That's very nice you're adding new gamemode. Although I think you could consider adding more difficulty modes to this gamemode when it comes to the real mode not just testing (AB, RB, SB). If you wrote that there'll be more difficulty modes than just AB as it is right now, I'm sorry, I must've not noticed. But overall I think it's really nice positive change and it will have many good aspects. I'm really looking forward to this! Have a nice day all!

Mode looks promising, but put it in Sim mode.

Issues:

bots track and shoot through all destroyable objects - this needs to go.

Also, their guns dont allign with shots and their internal components repair inistantly.

I would like to know if this is potentially related to a combined arms enduring confrontation mode?

Other than that, I enjoyed my time playing. Some of the issues I noticed were: AI firing and hitting targets while aiming somewhere completely different, AI vehicles moving in very weird ways, especially traversing waypoints with vehicle wrecks around them, and the spotting mechanic seems to work in untransparent ways as well.

 

I really liked this overall, I just hope this is part of something more encompassing than the website announcement makes it out to be. :good:

I will test this mode, but I would prefer RB style. Too bad you don't try EC battles for tanks and planes in RB battles.

 

The effort is appreciated, just please do not forget about other modes (AB has a terribly simplified driving and flight model).

 Realistic historical battles are the way to go. You have the vehicles and the graphics for it. Add some realistic campaigns and missions. SINGLE PLAYER guys. There is a huge untapped market for this and you could also add cooperative modes too.

I just done the middle east one, its was fun the infantry is a nice touch, I do think that players should have at least 1 spawn extra. And thank you for making it AB although adding an RB and SB could be nice also, just dont make it 1 mode only some like RB some like SB I like AB should not be hard to make all happy..

i really like the game mode so far but i think there should be a respawn, at least one, because it seems the AI tracks you and destroys you before you have a chance to see them, such as through buildings, or other obstacles.

Ok so I played a few matches and there are few criticisms I have:

 

1. AI ground soldiers and their AT gun instalments are buggy, you can get stuck inside them.

2. Since this is WT and you can get one shot'd, a respawn system of some sorts would be much better.

 

And in the future I would love to try it in RB since Arcade seems too fast, but I am not the biggest PvE player. Either way, testing it in RB would be awesome.

And I would love to see the "story" in these "story-driven" matches. I know this is just a test but you claimed there was a story so I am expecting it in the future.

The idea is great and Fun, i think it need to change to RB and give players the option to choose both their own crews and vehicles (let players choose from a predefined vehicle list or through BR or Rank for variety)

Got on all 3 to the end wave with only me remaining in the team. I know that most people are just trying it to see what's it all about, but come on:

Pz III F vs hordes of BTs

T-34-57 vs Tiger H1

M48 vs T-62

 

Also, the behaviour of the AI is the same as in Assault Arcade, which means aimbot firing on the move even on tanks without stabilizers and also a 150 crew to boot.

Fixed emplacements barely taking damage from HE shells on Sinai is just laughable.

I liked it, it's a nice change of pace. However, I really hope that this can lead to a Tank or Combined Arms Enduring Confrontation mode. As for bugs, I've noticed that the spotting is very janky.

I really like the format - it is harder than I imagined (which is good), but can we please have RB mode. Using tanks in AB makes it feel like I am driving a sports car.

On Poland, the T-34s on the second stage demolish everyone, when you kill the AT-53K they sometimes just look alive still with units manning it but no longer a hitbox.. driving into an AT can really damage your vehicle, I lost 2 crew members and got a fair bit of damage when I hit one that was already dead.

As soon as the second stage started, everyone just died within 20 seconds.

Having to defend it by myself you're dealing with ammo issues, tanks driving through wreckages which means you cannot shoot them, enemies got onto the cap and capped it before I even had a chance to get back from a position I was in to prevent being swarmed by all the tanks.

I've tested all 3 scenarios.

 

-The game concept is fantastic: playing a story driven match set in a historical or "hot war" scenario.

-The mechanics of the match are simple but immediate. 4 players have to clear a small part of the map, cap the point and advance. After that, they have to defend from incoming enemies. I suggest however to implement an RB version of this event, and to raise the number of players to 6 or 8, allowing them to apply more advanced tactics.

-If at least 8 players are in squad, it would be possible to have a combination of tank types, such as 1 heavy, 2 medium, 3 light, 1 anti air, 1 anti tank, so the enemy forces could even include a couple of planes.

-In the long run it could even be implemented as a Story Mode for War Thunder, with many campaigns per nation!

 

 

I think it's a really nice gamemode, I hope it will be a success among players.

My feedback is
- Needs respawns as AI just needs one lucky shot and player is out of the match. No respawns PvE only works if player vehicles had HP bars and we don't play WT for that.

- Spotting needs to be reworked so that you dont have to expose whole vehicle to mark enemies for yourself, let us use binoculars to spot them.

AB is a good pick for the mode obviously because mobility will allow players to actually get to positions in time, its just mode requires respawns because of WT gameplay and a spotting system closer to PvP Arcade.
