pretty sure that's a different bug from volumetric shells because the M48 shell (HE) with 10mm of pen also shows that it will pen and damage the fuel tanks

on another note, I dont even get a measurement of effective thickness in the damage viewer on the lower plate that may just be the measurement of the track armor that I've not unlocked

Not sure if the case with fuel tank is related.

Artillery for example can often turn them yellow and orange even with indirect hit. This was present before the whole volumetric patch.

They just cant get those seams fixed, can they?

First they double the armor thickness with them, now armor is inexistent with them.

it's pretty bad right now. this tech should be a beta and  not  a final release at this point. War thunder already seemed to have fickle penetration and damage models, but, its worse now

It's more like early alpha build, considering the physics, ballistics and how the shells interact with the armor. In beta you'd have most of that stuff working already and the main focus would be on fine tuning minor issues.
