Sight of a user-made tank don't work. Why?

Tank shoots where it should, but the sight does not work. There is only one vertical line visible. Additionally, arcade cross don't appear in any view.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? And how do I fix it?

I think we're looking in the wrong place.

You're not missing the sight, the game cannot know your shell's trajectory and cannot show the graduation.

Thing is, I have no idea where the game finds this info to make the sight work. But this likely has to do with what shell types are you shooting, maybe the game lacks an info somewhere.

What It's safe to assume:

-War thunder doesn't have homemade sights for each vehicles

-User created sights don't adjust with shell selection

-which means sights in WT are automatically calculated somewhere

Basically, what we need to find:

-Find how war thunder makes sights based on shell's statistics

-Find how to tell war thunder that you're using X or Y shell

The answer may not lie in the tank's BLK sadly. The little sight code we find inside is just for things like FOV.

I just looked at the code for tank shells,

The shells are actually inside the code of a gun.

The code is mostly about ricochets, penetration, weight, velocity, and other stuff such as what effect to play when the shell does this or that.

So, not in the tank's blk, not in the gun's blk.

This very likely has to do with somewhere else, UI related stuff...

Can you check if the preset shouldn't be named "us_m2_medium_default.blkx"

You have .blk, maybe it could be .blkx?

source: War-Thunder-Datamine/us_m2_medium_default.blkx at master · gszabi99/War-Thunder-Datamine · GitHub

Check the name

Edit: Gentlespie says the game doesn't support blkx, only blk

so, nope. Gonna have to look somewhere else.

  • 1 month later...

I'm updating and taking the topic up, because nothing has changed, but at least I have a little more information.

So let's summarize: no sight lines, no arcade cross, sight turns completely black when you aim even slightly at the sky.

Interestingly, Bob's .blk file works great with every other model except Bob. I can have an M60 that behaves like Bob and has a fully functional sight. Unfortunately, it doesn't work the other way around, I can't make a Bob acting like other tank with working sight. So it's something with a tank model not .blk. Bob model is based on M60 from the CDK (axes of all objects, sceleton structure, etc.). Nothing is blocking the view from sight, even when all visible parts of Bob are removed it still happens.

Anyone has any idea what can cause this?

Here is a Bob for testing!

Inside is a "lightweight" version of the .max file with simple textures, tank's .blk files and a simple test mission. I hope someone will find a bug one day. :salute:

PS No, this is not a "download->put in game files->play" type of file. ;)
