Matizo14 83 Report post Posted August 6, 2020 (edited) BRDM-2 (Combat Reconnaissance / Patrol Vehicle) is an amphibious car designed by USSR in 1962. More than 7,000 units were produced and used in armies of more than 38 countries! With weight of 7 tons, 140hp engine 8-wheel drive and max speed of 100km/h he could get everywhere! But unfortunately not to the land of strong armor (max. 14mm). Wait a minute... 8 wheel drive? There are only 4! Yes, there are 4 large wheels, but there are also 4 small ones between the large ones. These small wheels were driven by chain, ryly helpful thing when you drive in hard terrain. But if you want to go fast you can quickly raise them up. Almost like in airplane! BRDM design allowed for installation of various types of weapons. The most interesting I think is version named 9P148 with anti-tank 9M113 Konkurs rockets (~500mm of penetration). DreamADream4Me 2,838 Report post Posted December 10, 2020 Some damn fine work here! Here's hoping Gaijin buys your work and actually implements it in game, it's a freaking disgrace that this iconic vehicle STILL hasn't been introduced into the game, while the other trees are getting increasingly obscure and rare vehicles. It was ironically one of the first military vehicles i ever rode in, way before doing my time in the mil. 1
PacketlossRedux 592 Report post Posted January 5, 2021 yes please, i would love to drive this around in my 7.3 lineup, one of the most iconic Warsaw pact vehicles...and it also had Matyulka ATGM's on it, just with a slightly different launcher. Matizo14 83 Report post Posted May 24, 2021 (edited) Thanks for support! I just want to say that this project is still alive (at least at the time of writing this). I have some free time now so I'll try to make some progress. Edited May 29, 2021 by Matizo14 corrected 7

alcalc2 24 Report post Posted May 31, 2021 Great video! May I ask, how did you get the 3D model of those men in there? I presume you didn't model those?

I used those from the m60 model which is in the CDK files. But I'll probably make them from scratch myself. Because it's difficult for me to match them to fit the model and I don't want to use something that is not mine.

Matizo14 83 Report post Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) Hi! (yeah i know it's been a long time since last anything here) Recently I had the opportunity to visit a museum and see a real BRDM-2 with my own eyes. I can proudly say that the model that I created based on the photos collected from the Internet is not much different from the real thing. There were only differences in terms of overall dimensions (it is difficult to determine the exact size of something by just looking at the image). During my visit in museum, I collected almost 100 different measurements thanks to which I can say that each element of my model not only looks good, but also has the correct size! (as some of you wrote to me, this funny car was indeed a bit too wide before ) I also completed DM layer of the vehicle. This layer allows each piece of armor/internal modules/elements attached to the armor to interact with the projectile hitting it. (Spoiler Alert: Armor is so thin that if something doesn't bounce, it will pass through it. But remember armor=best armor.) A UV map is also ready, which is needed to apply the textures. Each part also has a corresponding "material". You can see materials representations on this screenshot. Each color represents a different material. It looks funny, but it simplifies the texturing process a lot. In addition, I used a little trick, the parts that will not be visible during the game have material that is here represented by red color (yes i know, you can't see any red on this screenshot, that's how it should be). These parts will have low quality textures, thanks to this everyone will have a bit more FPS and file size will be a little bit smaller. alcalc2 24 Report post Posted November 6, 2021 Meant to post sooner but whatever... Love the effort in your model and the model (amazing details on the front)! But, while I was looking at photos of your vehicle, I noticed that the treads on your wheels are quite off of what they seem in real-life. I am probably not looking at the same photos as you, but I can't find a vehicle that has those treads like on your model. You might want to recheck that, just to make sure that you don't mess that up. At least what I see, is the the spacing and the shape of the treads and their pattern differ greatly from yours. Matizo14 83 Report post Posted April 15 I've said this before more than once, but this project isn't dead yet! And today I have something special for you, WIP test drive! I decided to share current so you can test how the final one will perform, and point out errors that I didn't noticed. Gameplaywise the main thing missing for now is reloading animation (It's ready but I haven't been able to put it into the game). After 5 shots launcher will fold backwards and hide inside vehicle for reload (for now i haven't decided how long this process should take). I also need to add some details to area where commander view is used to make it more visually pleasing. And of course new textures. + there is no exhaust smoke for now. Who knows, maybe one day this car will officially appear in game. You can download it from here: https://live.warthunder.com/post/1070751/en/ Feel free to write your opinions and suggestions about things to improve.
