Hello all, new player here!

I have come over from that "other game" in hopes of finding a more combat centered game. The other one has just lost its luster and I am looking for more. Any guidance and help would be appreciated as what to do and not to do.

Thanks all, and good luck!

Hello there,

Welcome to War Thunder!

Glad to have you here. It is hard to provide exact guidance when we do not know what you are seeking to know precisely. One thing I can recommend you do is visit The Academy section. (The parent section of this sub-forum.) There are lots of tutorials and helpful players here to help you out. Feel free to create a thread pertaining to a specific question you may have as well, or participate in existing discussions.

Also, Staff and Community Helpers are always available to help you if you need assistance with something more complicated. Our PMs are always open.

Cheers :salute:

Try out all nations!

Try out all forms of vehicles!

Most important, imho, find a great squadron.  I can't stress how important it is to find one.  It takes the game to a new level.

Welcome aboard and I hope to see you out there, be it on sea land or air!

Welcome to the forums and the game!

As it was already said:

Check out the nations, play around with the reserve tanks of them, and if you can't decide which nation you want to go with we can provide some hints or advice on this matter - however, people can be quite different from each other, so it's always appreciated if you can give us some pointers what you are looking for

Aside from that - don't powergrind, backup your controls, good luck and enjoy the game

Don't spend SL (regular currency) or GE (premium currency) on things if you're not sure how they would affect you.

For ex. don't buy out all the crews that you can for every nation (3 more crews for SL and the rest for GE ), only buy crews for nations that you're going to play otherwise you won't have enough SL to buy and train crews for new tanks.

Also read about all the crew skills before you invest points in them, suppose you plan on training an entire tech tree of fighter aircraft in a single crew, then don't invest crew exp in any of the "defensive gunner" skills, since fighters don't have any defensive gunners it'll be pointless. Similarly if you train all your bombers in another crew slot then you can invest crew exp in the "defensive gunner" skills.

Again, remember to read about the skills, because some names can be deceiving. There are 2 skills called "fire precision" and "fire accuracy", they only increase the precision and accuracy for AI gunners not manually controlled gunners. When you play enough bombers in Air Realistic Battles you'll find out that almost all the time you'll be using the defensive gunners manually, hence those skills won't have any effect and your exp will be wasted. In order to increase precision, accuracy and reduce the spread of bullets in the manual aim mode, you should invest exp in the "g-tolerance" and "stamina" skills for your defensive gunners.
