But now with more modern jets and weapon systems entering the game it would fit better. Now the Mig-23 carries R60m AAMs, some time ago exclusively heli ordinance. But unfortunately I share your opinion - I don't think that the developer ever thought about the possibility to include Helis in EC...

So there's still no reply from Gaijin about adding helicopters to air SB mode? What exactly is the problem with that?
I've heard people saying that helicopters with advanced ATGM (i.e Ka-50) would spawn camp enemy AFs, that it would be boring to fly helos in SB in general, that there's nothing to do for helos in air SB.
Spawn camper issue can be fixed with SAM patrols around the air fields. There's only so much countermeasures that your average top tier helicopter can carry, so that's a quick and dirty fix that i came up with in less than a minute of thought process.
Boring gameplay - well, that's for helicopter players to decide what's boring and what's not. For example - i just enjoy the 'slow ride' and sound of chopping blades. Besides - nobody's forcing you to use helicopters, just provide the opportunity to use them for those who can enjoy the 'boring' helicopter gameplay.
As for heli targets - just add a couple more of enemy convoys on the maps. In my experience with high tier air SB - nobody bothers to destroy those convoys with planes to begin with. Even if i join the battle that's been going on for couple of hours - i jump in my A-10 and i still see that convoy made it's way halfway across the map.

The problem with helis atm is the helos themselves, they still have mouse aim and an oberly potent autopilot.

 

Imho they are still too arcadey for sim.

Boring would be fine the issue is arcade gameplay, that would need fixing.

We don't talk about DCS levels of realism though. We talk about the game not being a railshooter like it is with mouse aim.

If the mouse aim was gone and the base controls were properly implemented inwould agree with you. At this point i don't.

DCS isn't a realistic combat or flight simulator, it's a realistic cockpit operation simulator. WT has more in depth simulation overall than DCS does, despite simplified systems operation, the physics and such are far more refined. Of course there's always room for improvement, but the aircraft FMs are generally pretty good an on par or better than DCS in most aspects.

Yep, but they would be a mess in their current implementation.... So i won't shed a tear.

 

If they were fixed, i'd welcome them but currently they aren't ready for it.

 

You also couldn't balance them, since that top tier helos are far newer than the top tier jets.

Well here we are, it's 2023 and to THIS day, I still cannot play Helicopters in Simulator mode until the few days a week that uncle Gaijin moves top tier ground to the Simulator bracket and I get a SCARSE FEW solid simulator flights in my helicopter.

Related to this threat, could we just PLEASE be allowed to play any BR of ground sim we want and any time we want like it was almost a decade ago? Having to wait to be told when I can play what I want is infuriating. I don't care if teams are 5 players deep, I just want to be able to come home any day of the week and que for a Simulator match in any vehicle I want just like Realistic and Arcade lovers have the luxury of doing.. .

Yesterday tried my first helicopter flight in EC. Thought it was SIM and configured my joystick and throttle only to realize, that SIM EC is ...Arcade.
