Complete list of existing vehicles with IR/Thermal Optics

Hello community members, I would like to start a general thread listing all existing vehicles in War Thunder with either IR and/or thermal sight capabilities. With a recent Update 1.991 devblog it has been confirmed that both IR and thermal sights will be implemented as a new game play feature. If there are any unique features offered by particular vehicles with such systems this is the appropriate thread to post such information. I will start with what I already know. Feel free to add on the list or make any corrections!

Couple of things:

BMP-1/2 : no TIS (atleast in the versions we have ingame)

Begleitpanzer 57: TIS

Chieftain Mk.10: No TIS

ZSU-23: No TIS

T-80U: AFAIK no TIS either, only T-80UK and possibly some more modern versions

Leopard 2K: AFAIK no TIS

M551: Ingame version does not have TIS (TTS introduced that)

RU-251: IR (Active,same system as Leopard 1(A0)/JP4-5)

A1A1 120: TIS

Type 89: Probably has TIS

Yeah, T-80U doesn't have thermals, just the T-80UK (earliest one).

Also, should probably distinquish between passive and active IR.

I'm making a list of all vehicles that had either IR and/or Thermal capability in their complete service lives. This does not include the base models some of which are featured in War Thunder. Gaijin may possibly update the physical models on certain vehicles (T80U to T80UK) to accommodate these new gameplay features. For instance the wartime version of the T34-85 did not have IR but the post-war version did as a rebuild modification. The M551 Sheridan did not initially have thermal sights but it was later added as a service modification. We will have to wait and see how Gaijin wants to approach this dilemma but I am making a note of every vehicle that historically had IR or Thermal optics in some form.

No, for who is wondering, the specific T-34 with IR is the T-34-85 obr. 1969 “T-34-85M”, which has various upgrades such as IR.  It is the most advanced T-34.

M41, M46, M47, and M48A1, didn't have IR/Thermal Sights.  They had IR filters for the driver which has a VERY short Range.  M48A2C and later like the A3 and A5 had M32 Day and IR Gunners periscopes.  M60 again uses the M31 Periscope, which I'm not sure on.  The M60A1 uses the M32 Periscope again.  The Rise Passive uses Second/Third Gen I think imaging systems.  The M60A2 uses night vision equipment of various types.  The M103 had no night vision or IR sights as far as I can find in the books I have.  It's possible that could of been added on the A2 variant though.  The M551 had passive night vision, until the A1/TTS upgrade.

The rest would all be second or third generation systems.

You're thinking of the T34-85 obr. 1960. The T34-85M 1969 had night driving equipment but no additional IR sight which was already placed on the 1960 version. If the developers choose to update the physical model or make a separate tank then we will see IR on the T34-85.

The M41, M46, M47 and M48A1 were all fitted with IR lamps for the use of the tank commander and gunnery crew. They were available for units operating under the dark of night amid other weather conditions.

First of, almost all high rank Soviet tanks had night sights, so I have no clue what you're even trying to say there.

Secondly, you don't need ''documents'' to realize the fact that Soviets used a combination of illumination flares and image intensifiers.

Thirdly, implementing Soviet tanks that did have thermals should not be out of the question either.

Just because they were equipped with Xenon search lights that had IR filters, doesn't mean they had IR gunners or Commanders sights.  Like I said before the IR filters were for the drivers periscopes, which without the search light had a very short effective range.  You're arguing with someone who has the manuals for the vehicles, and knows what kind of sighting equipment they had.

I highly doubt they’ll have it as an upgrade, the T-34-85 is often used in WW2 events even.  I think it would be way better to see an expandable subfolder line, as there are 4 more T-34-85s we can have.

Thermals were the problem, NV gear is quite common on soviet designs.  Some eras were lesser than NATO, but some points the NV was as good or even better.

After all, the T-90, T-90A, and later T-80s are in range currently.  Although with only one T-72 out of, idk, 20 are in game, somehow I wouldn’t be surprised if they found some excuse to skip 2-3 dozen variants strait to the T-90.

Just checked some gunnery manuals, the M60 did have an upgrade periscope which added IR Night fighting capability.  And the M103 does not have it until at least the A1, as one of the coaxial MG's is replaced by a direct fire sight that has IR capability.  And there's also the possibility that they could give the commanders IR/Night vision binoculars on most of those tanks.

I really hope they don't mess this up because this is going to be a game changer. Tanks with Thermal imaging capabilities are going to have a huge advantage over non-thermal imaging capable tanks. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things work out when the patch goes live but until then, I'm rather nervous about the idea of IR/TIS being added.

Does anyone know if any of the German night fighter variants present in this game have the Spanner Anlage infrared detection? If so, will this also be modeled/functional?

AMX 40 should have IR/TIS via it's CASTOR (Thales) thermal sight same as the one used on the AMX 10 RC.

Future French vehicules with thermal:

-AMX 32

-VAB Mephesto

-VBCI

-VBCI-2

-Thales Rapid Fire

-More modern Leclerc

-AMX 10p HOT

-AMX 10 RCR

-Crotale

-Jaguar

-AMX 13 DCA

I don't doubt your expertise but I do question the idea that only the driver had access to IR. The IR lamp is situated on the mantlet and is connected to the commander's optics, it would not make any sense how the driver could control the searchlight without the commander's direct input. I would at the very least allow the commander's view to be IR capable on the previous noted tanks. (M46 Patton with IR seen below)

Thermal/Night Vision sights seems kinda unfair. what if it's a night match & a vehicle with no Thermal/Night vision was forced to fight these?

You adjust the gamma settings on your monitor and head to the post-fx settings in-game.

Mostly if not all vehicles with IR/NV are in the same BR, also I doubt we gonna see more night battles than we already see.

They said they are going to increase night battle frequency with the coming patch.

Also all Japanese offensive vehicles that entered service past 1980 have TIS or were upgraded to TIS with the FCS/ C4I system upgrades, that does not include older vehicles build in the '70s or '60s, thus I'm sure the Type 89 has TIS.
