Hello everyone! Today I'm starting another little series of posts on the Forums :p:

This one is called PlaneSeries and I will pretty much just list an entire family of aircraft in one nice little list.

So here are all the Me 262's! Enjoy! :salute:

Me 262 Prototypes

Spoiler

Me 262 V1

Spoiler

Me 262 V1

Spoiler

This is the first Me 262 prototype. This one has no jet engines yet and uses a Jumo 210G inline engine, also no weapons where fitted on this prototype. Also something to note is the landing gear setup, the first Me 262's still use a conventional tail wheel gear configuration.

Spoiler

Me 262 V1 with mockup engines

Spoiler

At some point these two mockup jet engines where installed to test the aerodynamics of the fighter.

Me 262 V2 - V4

Spoiler

The V2, V3 and V4 are futher prototypes of the Me 262. I've listed them together because they are very similar to eachother.

They got rid of the Jumo 210G and now have two jet engines. But they still use the conventional tail wheel gear configuration.

Spoiler

me23.jpg The V3

Me 262 V5 - V6

Spoiler

Here they finaly got rid of the tail wheel setup and installed a nose wheel wich gives it a much more finished look.

The V5 was the first to use this new gear setup, and the V6 because the first production model Me 262 with it's Jumo 109-004B jet engines. The V6 also finaly recieved it's 4 30mm Mk108 weapon loadout.

Me 262 A-3a

Spoiler

The Me 262 A-3a Panzerflugzeug (armored aircraft) was to be a strike variant designed for low level ground attack missions. Armored plating fitted to the fuselage mid section was supposed to provide protection to the pilot against AA fire. The aircraft was to be armed with four MK 108 30 mm cannons in addition to bombs carried on two ETC 504 racks. The aircraft never went into production: the war ended before a prototype could be built.

Can't find any photo's of this.

Reconnaissance version.

Sorry no images of this one. But it's almost identical to the A-1a/U3.

Me 262 D-1

Spoiler

Proposed variant to carry Jagdfaust mortars. The Jagdfaust was a recoilless mortar that fired upwards. When the Me 262 got under a bomber the mortars would fire upwards into the belly of the enemy bomber.

Spoiler

Me 262 E-2

Spoiler

Proposed rocket-armed variant carrying up to 48 × R4M rockets. Now this is an interesting one, one source says it would have had a rack of 24 R4M rockets under each wing as well as 24 in the nose of the aircraft.

This must have been some weird rocket armed bomber interceptor, but I can't find much on this variant.

Spoiler

The wing on the right would have been that of the E-2.

Me 262 HG

Spoiler

Me 262 HG I

Spoiler

The HG variants of the Me 262 are a series of high performance fighters. The HG I that actualy flew was the Me 262 V9 with a Rennkabine cockpit.

It was also planned to give the HG I slightly different wings. They would have still been the same wings used on all the other Me 262's, but this time they stretched forwards more wich increased the angle of the wings wich was better for high performance aircraft.

Spoiler

Me 262 HG II

Spoiler

The HG II is an even more sleeker Me 262. It uses the same Rennkabine cockpit that's on the HG I, but the HG II also got a new wing design.

These wings are on a 35° degree sweep wich allows the HG II to go even faster. It's believed that one HG II was atleast build and somewhat tested, but sadly I cannot confirm this.

A butterfly tail was also planned for this aircraft but was never build/tested.

31848-6e172c4631237ee61273e30ba447a3a8.j This is a picture of the HG II with a butterfly tail.

Me 262 HG III

Spoiler

This is the final design of the HG series of Me 262's. This Me 262 recieved completely new wings wich had the engines embedded into the wing. This greatly reduced it's drag, but was at the same time very complex to build. This aircraft made it to a windtunnel model for testing but was never actualy build in metal.

Me 262 S

Spoiler

Zero-series model for Me 262 A-1a.

I got nothing on this. Wikipedia mentions this plane but other then that it might aswell be a flying schnitzel.

Me 262 W

Spoiler

Me 262 W-1

Spoiler

Provisional designation for Me 262 with 2x 2.7 kN (610 lbf) Argus As 014 pulse jet engines. Now a Me 262 flying on just two pulse jet engines seems a little far fetched if you ask me. The Me 262 V1 prototype with it's Jumo 210G was already horribly underpowered, and that prototype didn't even carry any guns with ammunition or even the jet engines themselfes.

So as you can see in the pictures below many of these models have 4 or even more pulse jet engines under the wings.

Me 262 W-3

Spoiler

Provisional designation for Me 262 with 2x 4.90 kN (1,102 lbf) "square-intake" Argus As 044 pulse jet engines. Again same thing as for the W-1, two pulse jet engines is just not going to cut it for a fully loaded up Me 262.

The example below uses a total of four pulse jet engines.

Me 262 'Lorin'

Spoiler

Provisional designation for Me 262 with 2x Lorin ramjet booster engines in "over-wing" mounts, one above each of the Jumo turbojet nacelles.

This is one of those wierd and wonderfull designs that just look ridiculous. But it's just a standart Me 262 A, only it's got these massive ramjets on over-wing mounts.

For those who do not know what ramjets are, to put it simply: They are jet engines that require an inward flow of air to generate thrust. So the aircraft must be moving fast for these engines to generate any kind of thrust. That's why the 'Lorin' still has the normal jet engines, they will supply enough power to get the aircraft going before the ramjets take over.

A futher development of the Schnell bomber idea. This one is pretty much a Me 262 with a much fatter belly. This allowed it to carry bombs internaly wich would have given it a much higher top speed then the Schnellbomber Ia. And again, no guns on this one.

Me 262 'Me P.1101 air-intake test frame'

Spoiler

This is an Me 262 wich was going to test an air intake for the Jumo 004 jet engine that would have later been used on the Me P.1101. The experiment was performed using the Jumo 004 engine on a Me 262 to measure the loss of thrust due to a long intake. The optimum shape was found to be a smooth, round intake, which resulted in only a 3% loss of thrust.

IMPORTANT: There might be more Me 262 designs out there, so I'll slowely keep adding in stuff to this list. If I missed a Me 262 you think should be on this list please let me know in the comments!

So that is all for now, hope you guys liked this little list I made! See you on the battlefield! :salute:
