How to reduce the amount of times you get your ammo blown up in battle by taking the most necessary shells. NEVER take a full set of ammo. Always take the minimum amount you need. Don't worry if you run out, if you sit in capture zones that belong to your team your ammo will refill. The less shells you carry, the less likely someone will land a nice shot into your ammo. Here are the necessary shells I recommend taking into a battle. First, a few sub caliber rounds like apcr or apds. Second, at least 2-3 HEAT shells for those long range maps and for the pesky hullbreak vehicles (Vehicles that have very thin armor like SPAA and armored cars that when a large caliber/heat shell hits them, their vehicle hullbreaks and can't be used anymore). And lastly I recommend taking at least 2 smoke shells if available. You can use those to smoke yourself out if you are repairing, smoke an ally if you see them stuck, or fire it at an enemy shooting at you or your allies to blind him while you and your teammates make a getaway. I Hope this helps you improve your skills on the battlefield.

Best regards,

Using the "Protection Analysis" Tool

To see if your tank can penetrate an enemy vehicle, or vice versa, the most precise way to check is the Protection Analysis tool. It uses the game's penetration physics and is more accurate than comparing penetration values and armour thickness.

To use it, select the tank which you want to test the armour for (i.e. the vehicle that is supposed to get shot at) from the techtree or your hangar, and go to "Customization". Then, bellow the stat card on the left, click on "Armor" and then "Protection Analysis". Now use the drop down menus on the left to select the vehicle you want to check the penetration for (i.e. the vehicle that is doing the shooting) by selecting it's county of origin, tier, and finally the vehicle itself. You can also change the shell the shooting vehicle is using as well as the distance between the shooting vehicle and the target.

Once you have selected all these options to your liking, position the camera so that you look at the vehicle from the same direction the enemy shot is supposed to come from, and hover the mouse over the spot you want to shoot. The mouseover will already give you information about the impact angle, penetration chance and potential damage, but for more precision, leftclick to simulate a shot at the spot you want to test. Now, the hit cam you already know from battles will pop up in the top right corner and show you the result of this particular shell hitting this particular vehicle at this particular range, angle and spot. You might also want to simulate multiple shots, since they are not guaranteed to produce the exact same result every time.

How to test the performance of a vehicle that you do not own.

Before researching, or simply playing a new vehicle, you want to test it. Knowing if you will like the new vehicle or not is an important part to enjoy the game and adapt your research / progression in the tree.

You want to see what your new acquisition can do, to its fullest. You want to test the real deal. However, test driving an unspaded vehicle will not provide you this feeling.

To test the full potential: select your vehicle, click on the "test drive / test flight / test sail option", and be sure that you have the "Vehicle modification" line (3rd from the bottom) set to "reference".

1)

shot 2019.07.01 18.43.37.jpg

2)

shot 2019.07.01 18.51.18.jpg

It will enable the vehicle, as good as new and spaded. It does not affect the gunnery performance, which sadly will remain at stock value.

You can use it to see how quick a vehicle can accelerate, but not how accurate the gun is. It still allows you to compare the handling of a stock and spaded vehicle, to give you an idea of what the future acquisition will be able to achieve once all module are researched.

Alternatively, you can compare what it will be at purchase (current) and after spading (reference).

How to set up your battle interface

When flying over the White Cliffs of Dover or the sandy beaches of Iwo Jima, pilots from all over need to make spilt second decisions that all affect the outcome of the battle.  In order to make these decisions, the pilot must know a multitude of things including but not limited to:

  • Airspeed (or indicated airspeed)
  • Engine temperature
  • Oil temperature
  • And much more!

To change these settings, go to the top of the War Thunder menu and click "Options".  Under left hand Navigation tab, click "Battle Interface" or alternatively, scroll down until you see it.  Once there, you will be presented with a multitude of battle options.  Here you can change the default team colors, squad colors, and many more.  In addition, you can also change whether your fuel, ammo, and temperature indicators show all the time or some times.  Most experience players recommend setting all of the indicator options to "Always".  Right below, you can also change your units for in-game measurements.  Once set up to your liking, you are now ready to go into battle with all the information you need they way you want it to!

How to level up crews in War Thunder

As you play War Thunder, your crews will accumulate XP points used to level up their skills. To level crews up, select a vehicle in your garage and click on the button titled "Crew". In this menu, you can view the different positions of the crew that can be upgraded, such as a tank's commander, or a plane's pilot. Note that "Defensive Armament" refers to the crew members of a plane that man weapons apart from the pilot, so if you are upgrading this category for a crew that is using a one man plane , nothing will change when it comes to in game performance. In addition, you can upgrade the logistical services of the crew, which will effect things such as repair time in the hangar or in the airport ingame, and this stays consistent no matter if the crew is for a air, ground, or naval vehicle.

How to unlock new camouflage for a vehicle in War Thunder

To unlock new camo for a vehicle in War Thunder, you must first view the conditions of unlocking the camo, or the price if you desire to buy it. To do this, click on the vehicle, click the button titled "Customization", and click on the Camouflage drop down menu. If there is no drop down, the vehicle only has a standard camo. If the dropdown is present, you can hover over camos to view their conditions to unlock them, as well as their price in gold eagles. If no conditions to unlock display on hover, the camo can only be purchased, and not unlocked otherwise.

What faction should You go for fighter planes planes?

After playing War Thunder for a pretty long time, I can pretty much tell you what each faction offers so you can start grinding with your favorite faction right now:

USA

Lots of firepower, Has a wide range of vehicles, and most of them have at least 4 weapons.

Germany

Good at head-to-head, and the fighters have a really good altitude climb.

USSR

Also good at head-to-head, and usually has a canon bigger than a 20 mil, so if you have good accuracy, can easily take down targets, including tanks.

UK

Has a LOT of weapon variety  (Min of 4 to max of 12 machine guns and/or cannons). Above average turn time.

These factions are harder to master, but can also be very rewarding.

Japan

REALLY good turn time. you will most likely win in dogfights, since you can outturn your enemies and get on their tails pretty easily.

Italy

Below average planes from Rank 1 to 2, but once you get the G.55, It is going to be pretty fun and easy.

France

A lot of planes from USA, but also got some of its own, with interesting designs

Every faction has its ups and downs, but hopefully you will know what faction you would like to start with.

How to draw the least attention to yourself when playing tank RB or Sim:

When playing tank RB or sim, try not to drive like crazy and mow down every tree or building you see. Knocking down objects especially large trees draws A LOT of attention and when you knock down trees, it is very easy to spot from long distances. People will scout you, mark you on the map, tell ally planes and helicopters where you are so they can attack you etc. The lesson of this tip? Try and draw the LEAST attention to yourself. Don't go around destroying objects and trees, and try to reduce the amount machine gun spam you do. This includes spraying them at helicopters and planes, people can easily see your tracers and know where you are at especially on night maps.

#1 Options and Controls (The text-image guide)

The most crucial step to any game are the settings and how you want to play it.

War Thunder has a lot of controls and different options that its sometimes hard to find what you want to do with them.

First Things first, where do you find your options and controls?

c864afafeeaadb7d63ae7334e99f8400.thumb.p

After you click on the cogs a small menu will drop down.

c864afafeeaadb7d63ae7334e99f84010.thumb.

In options you can setup those things:

How to co nsistently enjoy subsonic jets against other enemy fighters - A short guide with a few tips to improve your gameplay.

Hello! I am writing a short guide with a few tips to improve your experience in a subsonic jet facing supersonics in RB!

Tip 1: Be a team player!

A key bit of advice to help yourself and your team is selectively kill opponents instead of going for the easiest/worst enemy. Kill enemies that have a

high chance of causing trouble later in the game or enemies that are distracting teammates by chasing them. This will help contribute to team victory.

Did you know that a mission victory will give you and everyone else in your team 120% RP and 67% SL? Well, now you do.

Tip 2: Aiming.

Aiming can be a pain for everyone, maybe you got a new plane with fantastic guns but the bullets are slower than missiles? (looking at you, Me 262).

Well fear no more, this guide to learning how to aim should be helpful.

The first and most simple tip is not usually covered by most guides from what I've seen, but configuring the aiming reticule in HUD options is surprisingly useful.

WTGuide1.thumb.png.5e9308e6b0b81900646bc

Here we see my configuration that makes aiming just a touch easier. Green is an easy colour to see in all map environment and the crosshair is easier to spot in the midst of heated aiming.

Secondly for aiming, put more or less aiming lead than you think you need!

With low velocity bullets such as the Mk 108 cannons the the Me 262's and the ADEN cannons on the Hunter/Javelin, you will almost always need to lead more than you think you need to! Trust me, this happens all the time with these guns and thinking like this will more often than not land your bullets.

Tip 3: Staying alive with the power of flight styles!

Flight styles are a very very useful way of staying alive and contributing effort towards the victory of your team!

2 Flight styles you can rely on (depending on your aircraft characteristics) are the following:

1. From the start of the game, gain some speed (400-450MPH) and commit to a 10-15 degree climb on the side of the map (making sure you go around the main bubble of enemies) until you reach about 2000-3000M (the higher, the better) and slowly begin to go around the enemy bubble and begin your shallow dive towards them, this way, more enemies are engaged and therefore unaware of your presence and less likely to have you shot down.

2. From the start of the game, gain as much speed humanly possible in your aircraft by going in a straight line towards the enemies. Headon everything in your path but never veer off of your straight course through enemy bubbles. Once you've passed through all the enemies in a roughly straight line, keep flying in that straight line until you are at a safe distance from the enemy bubble. Then, pull up and gain as much altitude as you can (3000-4000M or more) and head towards the enemy bubble again, also in a shallow dive to pickup that speed. This way, you can also catch the enemies with their trousers down and beans falling out of their bowls.

END.

I hope this guide was easy enough to understand and I truly do hope this helps players who struggle to enjoy 9.0 jets facing the 10.0 jets they will face!

If you feel like I missed something, I'd love to know!

Thanks, KekMeister

How to use rangefinder/sight distance control in War Thunder

In many of the modern tanks in War Thunder, a modification named: "Rangefinder" is present, this module makes it very easy to get the distance to your target in Tank battles. Although this feature is not used by many. War Thunder also has a feature to set the distance in the sight of your tank. These features together can make you one of the deadliest marksman in War Thunder!

Step 1: Bind necessary keys

Go to Controls -> tank -> Miscellaneous and bind the options called "Rangefinder", which I've binded to the "x" key as shown

20190607173406_1.thumb.jpg.b1b9dbd959525

Then, double click on "Sight distance control", the following screen should appear:

20190607173429_1.thumb.jpg.ac78e295d1829

Here, bind keys to both "increase value" and "Decrease value", binding "Reset axis value" can also come in handy. Also turn down the values: "Relative control sensitivity" and "Relative control step" all the way down

Step 2: Rangefind your target

The tank T80U will be used in this example, since it has a laser rangefinder, this will mean that the rangefinding button will initiate the laser rangefinding system to accurately measure the distance to a target up to several kilometers, depending on the rangefinder. Does the tank not have a rangefinder unlocked and/or installed. The button will command the crew of your tank to guess the range to the target. Which is not as accurate or has the range of a dedicated rangefinder:

Press your rangefinder button whils having your crosshair over your target:

20190607173303_1.thumb.jpg.f6cd60ccbc39f

A small bar on top of your HUD will appear, notifying your rangefinder or your crew is rangefinding the target.

After a short moment:

20190607173305_1.thumb.jpg.7e52efebef7f4

Your rangefinder will output the data on the top of your HUD, you now know the range to your target.

Step 3: Set the distance in your scope

Now you know the distance, you can already use the bars on your scope to adjust for the distance, however. This gets increasingly harder when the ranges increase, also, you cannot use this reliably when your tank isn't on flat ground.

So instead, we set the distance in our sight, this can be done using the key binded to "Increase value" in "Sight distance control", you hold this button until you see the same range from your rangefinder, if you overshoot, you can use the "Decrease value" button to adjust. You should see the following:

20190607173322_1.thumb.jpg.ce72ef49b2e8f

Step 4: Shoot the target!

Now the target is zerod in perfectly, all that is left, is to hit the trigger!

20190607173327_1.thumb.jpg.ad7ca9d1d8dfe

Step 5 (Optional): Reset sight

After you've dealt with your target, you can hit the "Reset axis value" in "Sight distance control" to reset your gunsight. Now you can use this process to effectively engage targets at further ranges, with tanks that are equiped with coincidental rangefinders and laser rangefinder!

Good luck out there!

#1. Understanding crew levels of you vehicle

Crew levels show how well trained your crew are in your vehicle, if you increase their crew level by spending crew XP points on them then this can lead to an increase in the performance of that vehicle, and can improve things such as the health of the crew, the traverse of the turret, the reload rate or if you use planes it could help with things such as gunner accuracy.

A1.png.7c7d7c0fe3497d80ed5c9da6b3c5295a.A2.jpg.cca1ce43140a87dd2a5063668826facf.

there are 3 promotional levels that your crew can be at, Basic, Expert, or Ace. As your crew increase in level you will be able to increase theyre promotional level which will then promote them and increase their skill in battle, but remember however that the Expert level costs silver lions while Ace level costs golden eagles, you can however decrease the cost of the Ace crew over time by playing that vehicle and if you play it enough you could get the crew aced for free!

#2. How to play Events/tournaments

events and tournaments are battles which differ from the usual random battles as only certain vehicles and maps will be present.

To play an event, go to the top right of the screen on the main menu and go onto "Events & Tournaments"

B1.jpg.d2bffcbfed1b28b676067600ae6eb586.

Here you will be able to see all the different events that are currently going on.B2.thumb.jpg.e015da6540568a7e026ea9ac4e3

different types of battles will be shown.

"special events" are events which only occur on certain times to mark a certain event, an example would be the Normandy special events which are being played to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

"simulator battles" are also in the events & tournaments tab, these types of battles are just like realistic battles but have a much more emphasis on simulation of the tanks and planes that can be used, the vehicles which can be used are also limited however, which is why you should check the "allowed vehicles" section, this will show the vehicles that are available for this specific event. This menu will also give additional information such as the number of players in a game, the map the game will be played on and a leaderboard which will show the people who have played this event the most.

How to understand heavy tank armor:

Your heavy tank's armor is not a shield, it's an insurance policy. While many new players may charge into battle with their new heavy tank, the seasoned heavy tank veteran understands that protection is a passive feature, not an active protector. Always remember that the best guarantor of survival is not being seen, and armor is a backup plan for the unfortunate moments when you are put in the enemy's sights.

Tips for researching new vehicles faster.

1-Premium vehicles

Premium vehicles earn a higher amount of RP (Research points) than normal, researchable vehicles.

They can research vehicles without a penalty as long as they are of a lower rank, or up to one rank above.

862631282_shot2019_06_0713_21_54.thumb.j

2-Premium Account

Premium account time is a paid suscription, this can be bought in game and also as part of other packs that include Prmeium time. It is probably the fastest way of progressing as well as making a solid income at the same time.

301611412_shot2019_06_0713_41_56.thumb.j

3-Talismans

Talismans are a permanent boost to a tech tree vehicle's research efficiency. These can be purchased on the Vehicle's Modification tab, or, with a measure of luck, earned through drops in random crates after battles.

805166674_shot2019_06_0713_43_32.thumb.j

4-Boosters

Research Boosters are temporary boosts that can be activated before battles. These come with different amounts of boost, as well as a set amount of battles these can be used for (ranging from 1 battles to more than 10)

856448361_shot2019_06_0713_43_18.thumb.j

5-Modifications

An easy and productive way of earning RP is through the research of entire modification ranks. The way to do this is simply by playing any tech tree vehicle and researching all of the modifications in it. Once the last Modification in a ''Line'' is finished, extra RP will be sent to the vehicle being researched.

I have a partially completed guide with dozens of completed sections that fit a similar format.  I've since stopped work on the guide due to the massive scope and my reduction in time available to do it.  Rather than submitting dozens of individual sections maybe you can put me in contact with someone I can submit the whole document to so they can use sections as they please.

I've made several guides in the past, some recent some not. Rather than making a stupidly long post I'll just put the link here. Some of them are pretty cringey though.

The most recent one I've made was regarding EC mechanics such as airfield health indicators (which were not explained anywhere, even on WT's blog that explained the changes)

Are you stuck on what types and amounts to bring into battle?  Here's a quick guide for you.  There are a few main types of rounds in War Thunder.  Standard APHE rounds are a good balance between penetration and damage at most Battle Ratings.  The bulk of your shells you bring into battle should be APHE; if for example you are using the British Achilles, whose 17 pounder gun doesn't get APHE, bring standard AP shot.  For dealing with tougher nuts to crack, such as KV1s, Sherman Jumbos, T95s, Maus, or other heavily armored beasts, you should bring around 5 APCR or APDS subcaliber rounds that do little damage but can pierce just about anything.  Lighter vehicles often can be over-penetrated by standard rounds, passing through the vehicle doing little to no damage.  For facing these, bring a few HE or HEAT rounds that have a high chance of hull breaking light vehicles like SPAAGs.  Choosing the right amount of shells is also important, as taking too many can leave you vulnerable to ammunition explosions that will send you right back to the hangar.  To do this, go into the hangar, select a tank and use the "x-ray" mode to find the ammunition racks and count the shells in each one.  From here, you can figure out how many shells you think is enough to last the battle without getting blown to bits.  For the most part, I recommend around 30-35 shells; of these at least 20 should be AP/APHE, with the rest being subcaliber or HE/HEAT.

How to make efficient use of flaps in aircraft in War Thunder.

Flap usage can be very beneficial for achieving victory in both regular dogfighting and duelling in tournaments (Sign up for tournaments at http://tss.warthunder.com/!).
Flaps work by increasing lift when extended. In a dogfight this can be used to make your aircraft turn tighter, getting your weapons on target and allowing you to be victorious in battle. However, flaps also increase the drag of your aircraft, making you slower! This means you must only use flaps sparingly as to keep your speed up, as without sufficient speed your target can out-climb you, out-turn you, or plainly run away.

Always account for your enemies aircraft as well as your own. Just because you know how to use flaps does not mean you can out-turn a Spitfire LF IX in your B-29. Although, flaps can be used to surprise more manoeuvrable aircraft, and with good aim, perhaps win a battle you would otherwise lost (Spitfire vs 109 at Low speeds, for example.)

On the majority of aircraft, there are 3 flap settings:
Combat Flaps
- Creates the smallest amount of drag, meaning less speed lost but also benefiting lift and turn speed. Can be deployed at higher speeds.
Takeoff Flaps - Middle ground between combat and landing, allows for more lift than combat, but doesn't create as much drag as landing flaps do. Can be deployed at medium speeds.
Landing Flaps - Creates the most lift, but also the most drag! Allows for the aircraft to make the tightest possible turn, but causes a high loss of speed. Can be deployed at low speeds.

Each aircraft has different flap deployment speeds and ripping speeds. Its a good idea to test these in a test flight before you attempt to use them against players. Its no good knowing how to use flaps if you rip them off!

A general rule of thumb can be applied to flap usage in order to achieve a turning advantage over your opponent:
In horizontal turns: apply takeoff flaps - landing flaps. This is because horizontal turns bleed less speed compared to vertical turns, meaning you aren't as vulnerable when using higher flap settings.

In vertical turns: apply combat flaps. This is because vertical turns often bleed a large amount of speed, and you risk stalling out faster if you use higher flap settings. Use of combat flaps still allows for a turning advantage however, with minimal impact on energy.

Some aircraft will only have 1 or 2 flap settings, in which case you can continually switch between them. If an aircraft only has takeoff and landing, but you need combat, switch between no flaps and takeoff, etc.

You may find that standard War Thunder controls do not allow you to switch between flap settings with ease or precision. I find that having a mouse with buttons will greatly help you with flap controls, however keyboard keys may also work for you. To change flap controls go to settings (top right of hangar, shown as gears) > controls > aircraft > mechanisation and set flaps up / flaps down to whichever keys you find most usable:
