Use a Room system for operations over matchmaking

This was originally in the discussion thread, but I think it's better suited as a suggestion

I am curious why it's currently a matchmaker thats used to find an opposing squadron in world war mode?

For those not part of a squadron or not one that actively took part in an operation, an officer puts your squadron into a matchmaker much like looking for an RB or AB game and eventually you get an opposing team and an operation is launched.

Which is kinda confusing. It doesnt look like an ELO system of any sort is in place (considering my squadron of almost 100 players kept getting put against squadrons with less then 20) and it is in my opinion counter productive to the mode itself.

I'd suggest a room system much like how Air simulator battles is done. A room system works better with games that have overall smaller number of players (hence why air sim has it)or the game mode itself requires less players (a lot of RTS games where there would only be one player on each side would use room systems) in the case of World War mode there are functionally a much smaller number of players and only 2 per each operation, because from WW mode's perspective there are only 2 players, a single squadron on each side, so despite there being potentially 100's or 1000's of players involved in WW mode from the perspective of the matchmaking there is actually very few. Which means much like air sim the mode would benefit more from a room system over being forced into a matchmaker.

It would be beneficial overall especially if it could work as follows:

A squadron officer can create an operation room and put their squadron on one side, an officer from another squadron could see that room and join putting their squadron on the opposing side if they wish.

Only officers can see these rooms, but once they have armies on both sides the room is moved to the public lobby where players not assigned to any squadron or are in separate squadrons to the two active in game can join.

Firstly this is just neater overall, instead of seeing 100's of battles from multiple operations, randoms will be able to see the operations themselves and the clans involved, It also allows them to secure a permanent spot in an operation by simply staying in the room they joined and also can allow gaijin to have caps in each room to stop too many players dogpiling into a single operations.

Secondly this solves one of the big communication issues of world war mode.

A random joining one of these rooms will be able to talk to the squadron they are supporting and actually feel like they are part of the operation and not just some random person passing through for one battle.

it also lets the squadron relay some important issues, like which battles they need people to focus on the most and the risks involved in certain battles (such as limited units so dont throw away units)

It also because it is a room allows Gaijin to extend some basic moderator tools to the squadron officers in those rooms, such a muting or removing players if they are dealing with randoms who are disruptive in a number of ways (again an issue I ran into in some of our battles)

More importantly a room system will allow more options for the mode overall, such as allowing squadrons to set which type of gamemode their operation will be.

Instead of this single mixed ab/rb mode that is making no one happy, especially when the vast majority of squadrons out there tend to focus on one over the other, you can offer the ability for squadrons to set their WW mode to AB, RB or even SB (and allow randoms to filter for certain types of rooms).

Another option could even be an alliances version of WW mode where you could have 2 squadrons on each side, a room system (much like an RTS) would be the best system to allow such matches to occur.

There could even down the line be the possibility of a PVE world war mode using the elements from the already present campaign and assault modes. But a room system is the easiest way to bring in new elements without potentially throwing a wrench

World war Mode is meant to be primarily a squadron focused mode. I think it's only fair to trust them with some level of control.

ELO system must be used, maybe in open beta they dont to improve othar aspects of the game, mm is faster.

Room system is not the best solution for squadron MM, we have same squadron have more then one squadron. They can "win easily", combine results with other squadrons ...

ELO System with Warthunder MM, +- like we have in Squadron Battles.

Using a matchmaker is irrelevant to this scenario as some squadrons discovered during the last event. Because non squadron members can join operations on either side, matchmaking is kinda pointless as you'll get the clan that have multiple squadrons basically being able to flood any operation on either side. We ran into this first hand on saturday

If you want to preserve some sort of competitive ladder with an ELO system then the whole joining an operation of another squadron system will have to be dumped.

If Gaijin wants to keep  allowing randoms to join.

Then a room system would be better as it allows them to put a hard cap on players actively involved in each operation and we dont get scenarios were one side is swamped by another who are multiple squadrons organised together.
