What happened to bombers? Why are they so garbage now?

Or did War Thunder just buff all the guns of every fighter aircraft but forgot to increase HP of bombers to compensate? Seriously what has changed in the few months I didn't play? It seems any fighter now just has to sneeze in the direction of a heavy bomber and 'pop' off goes the back half of the aircraft....

1. They Nerfed Bomb explosion radius's

1. Again? They nerfed them a couple of years ago so you basically had to get a direct hit with a 2,000lb bomb in order to kill anything..

2. Did they buff 50's as well? If anything they seemed to do more damage than cannons in the last few games I've played..

When was the last time you played? Bombs have been in a sorry state for at least a year and the last time .50 cals were buffed was when Italian planes were released, I think it was around mid 2017. Cannons were also buffed some months ago and tails have been made of glass since then. It's a very bad time to be a bomber pilot right now.

Yep, Gaijin finally listened to the pleas of the players to nerf the incredible overpowered bombers that could dolphin dive and end games in 3-4 minutes. Now we have much more balanced gameplay, and you have to use your head and think in order to do well in bombers.

Than i also missed the part in the dev blog that said:

 

"Your plane is made of paper, be warned! We added predetermined breaking Points to all planes. Get hit once and your tail falls off"

ITs sad but I would assume they can't fix it in the coding. Bombers shouldn't blow into peices with 1 bullet. But it been this way now for months so don't see it changing till they  need to sell more premiums and make a bunch of premium bombers.

Gaijin doesn't want fighters to escort bombers. They don't even get activity % for that, so victory achieved that way is meanless, since RP, warbonds and events are activity dependant.

**gets one ground kill on an armored car**

**Wonders if something is bugged and drops 27x 500lb bombs directly on to light pillbox from close range**

 

pillbox doesnt even get damaged

Great, and now that bombers are weaker than ever I get 50% cloud maps to give bombers a chance. Absolute brilliant solution. :facepalm:

There are 3 aspects of bomber gameplay that are affected 

 

1. The rewards gained for ground targets 

2. The strength of bombers vs fighters 

3. The strength of bombs vs heavy ground targets * Pillboxes and tanks * for all but American bombs ( just another buff to USA )

 

Gajin nerfed both . When nerfing either would have been just fine.  

Anyone flying bombers for any reason but Warbonds must be masochists ( and the special warbonds task for bombing ground units is basically BSMD in game )

A half of my kills on fighter was from taking down enemy who was approaching a bomber from my team. 

Its really worth it, easy kills on enemies with low energy.

I remember when that first came out, it was so broken. Would constantly watch people dive into a gaggle with it and come out with 4+ kills and then drop its payload.

Err...mine are hitting stuff again...even got a couple kills with Beaufort on Naval maps...(where fighters are lower level and frail)

 

I actually think they are working as before...NOT SO EFFECTIVE because bombers still break apart easily so the fighter attack is much shorter...so less time for the gunners to aim...but they do fire and get hits...

I agree there seems to be an improvement. For example. as long as it flies close to the deck, fighters drawn to my B 34's posterior now mostly meet a deadly fate.

Before someone complains...this is AS IT SHOULD BE...IMHO (not sure about numbers and details...just THE IDEA)

 

Fighters in WW2 had to avoid rear attacks vs fast and well armed bombers...for the obvious reasons...unless well specific well armed and armored bomber destroyers...

Fighter pilots SHOULD have the advantage...but have to do SOMETHING for the kill...not just point and click...

 

Some updates ago i knew i SHOULDN'T attack bombers on japan paper fighters (even Spitfires were a bad idea), i SHOULDN'T make long pursuits from behind (if bomber has tail guns)...and at the time i knew the better ways to attack some bombers...mostly from below...some form the side...BUT knowing some had waist gunners and so on...
