Type 98 20mm AA cannon mounted on Type 98 5-ton tractor Ko-Hi

九八式二十粍高射機関砲 九八式五屯牽引車「コヒ」搭載型

ikTXeGk.jpg

This is IJA's prototype SPAA "Type 98"

This vehicle is not well-known, so there are very few sources, but it will be very good vehicle for Japanese low-rank SPAA tree!

Known things

  • Based vehicle is "Type 98 tractor Ko-Hi"
  • Vehicle was built by Ikegai or Isuzu
  • Weapon is "Type 98, 20mm AA cannon" (Some website its weapon is Type 2, but its wrong. Type 2 20mm Ke-Ki is produced only 16 sets in late of the war, so they will not built new SPAA)
  • This was only prototype production.

Open for Discussion.:salute:

I edited the poll to comply with the guidelines. All Polls must have a "No" option for each question as the Polling system requires all members to vote in each question, not just one.

Quote

Create polls that don't include a "Negative" or "No" answer

When adding a poll to your suggestion, make sure to ALWAYS include a negative option to a question,so it's fair and unbiased. In case this was not followed, the poll creator will be notified and the poll will be modified to provide a fair voting system.

Oh, sorry.

But other suggestions, BR poll did not required that option...

Should I fix them now?

You are welcome to do so if you want, although it's a little late for that now. :P

It's required by the guidelines, the poll won't warn you if you lack a "no vote" as it does not know. Also, I did the math, and the same amount of members (127) voted for each poll question. But it's just a polite pointer.:yes_yes_yes:

Why? We already have a truck with a 20mm. I don´t know wwhy we should need another one.

Because other country have more SPAA. Japanese ground forces tree is very small.

A Russian Site Having Alot Of Info On The Ko-Hi:
http://www.aviarmor.net/tww2/halftracks/japan/ko-hi.htm

Huh, there's some conflicting information on the site. According to it, the engine was taken from the Ha-Go, which had between 110 and 120 horsepower. However, the engine was also listed as being a 130 horsepower engine instead.

The top speed also varies. On that website, it's listed as being only 40 kph (a lot worse than the Isuzu Type 94's 65 kph), but according to one of the other websites it sources it's instead 48 kph. That website also lists its crew members as 15 (most of which were likely just infantry) and that it could carry the Type 4 75mm AA gun (although it isn't mentioned whether that was in a disassembled state or if it could actually be fired from that position).

Still, the Type 98 Ko-Hi carrying the 20mm Type 98 AA gun seems like it could fit the as a counterpart to the Isuzu Type 94 despite the much lower speed. Not sure if it would be better in a folder or as a premium though.

The 15 Crew Members Are Just Taken Out Of Proportion, The Half-Truck Itself Could Prob Just Hold 3/4 Crew While All Other Crew Members Are Just Extra Loaders That Have To Run To Ammo Trucks / Boxes To Load The SPAA, Like Any Other SPAA Actually.

Other Than That, I Don't Know How It Is With The Engine?

+1, voted for a BR of 1.3 as it's just the Type 94 in half-track form (even including the fully-exposed gun crew and everything!)

Found some more pictures of the Type 98 Ko-Hi. It's surprisingly hard to find pictures of for some reason. There seem to be some differences between these and the version carrying the 20mm shown above - the canvas covering is attached and there are more engine grilles.

I guess only few vehicles was build. According Japanese Wikipedia of Type 1 Ho-Ha mass production of half track started in 1944. Also some Type 98 deployed, but it still called “Experimental”(試製).

It's interesting that these appear to be different models compared to the one in the OP - they're longer and have an additional drive wheel, among other differences.

Did this 20mm gun has AP shell like the German or Italian 20mm guns ?

It's the same Type 98 20mm gun that's on the Type 94, the Ta-Se, and the So-Ki, so yes. Its AP penetrates 40mm at point-blank. It doesn't have any APCR/HVAP though.

+1, it's a different chassis and that alone is enough for implementation imo. Possibly as a premium.
