I was expecting some performance related issues on my mac with the introduction of the new Dagor engine and I'm hardly disappointed:

Benchmark from yesterday, 1.75 (overall rating: 9241):

x2ks7c.png

Benchmark with same settings today, after updating to 1.77 (overall rating: 4368):

q645ll.png

Spoiler alert: my in-game performances have been cut in half!

Average framerate in tank battle with 1.75: 65-90

Average framerate in tank battle with 1.77: 35-55

I know some minor optimizations will be provided with patches but I know also from having played WT since 2014 on mac that usually that kind of big performance drop is never fully fixed...

It wouldn't be so frustrating if I wasn't already playing on ULTRA LOW QUALITY SETTINGS (OpenGL) on a CURRENT GEN HIGH END iMac...!

At this point I will have no choice then reduce my resolution to 1680 x 944 if I want to obtain playable FPS which sounds like bit of a joke considering I'm playing on a 4K display.

Don't get me wrong, the graphic overhaul looks fantastic, you guys did a great job on it. I just wonder if I will be able to enjoy it in playable conditions at some point.

My configuration: 2017 iMac 21.5 on macOS 10.12.6, 3.4GHz i5, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 4096MB, 1TB Fusion Drive.

Graphics are always processor-intensive. And the new changes at very extensive. Usually, I found that my old computer didn't preform so well on the day of major updates, and WT ran slower on new update days, after that everything was fine though. I hope my HP Omen doesn't suffer from the same thing that affected my old toaster...

I think its becuase metal rendering is no longer working. Opengl is noticeably slower.

Metal is working for me (1.77.1.7) but performances are the same if not worse than OpenGL...

Are you sure you are definetely set to Metal in the settings and not auto? Alot of other Mac users are reports that metal flat out doesn't open.

Metal finally works but now its just as slow as the worsened OpenGL. The game stutters alot and I think the issue is the new dagor optimization for mac because alot of windows users are doing fine in performance.

Might be a good idea to let them know we're not fully satisfied with the 1.77 (lack of) optimizations for the macOS client ---> 1.77 survey

For what is worth, Linux users are experiencing framerates issues with 1.77 as well.

The same - iMac 2017, i5 3,4 GHz, 16GB RAM, Radeon Pro 560 4 GB. After release 1.77 fps drops from 80-100 to 40-60. During intensive fight even worse.

Ultra low settings as well?

ULQ - about 80-120 fps - no lags or sth.

Low - about 60-100 fps, but during the dogfight could drop even to 20-30 fps

Generally - in ULQ and low settings, game looks awful for me - we have XXI century - isn't it? ;-)

Thanks for the info. That's interesting because we have almost identical configs (only RAM differs) and still you obtain far better results. I'll test on low as well to compare. Quick questions: have you enabled "old videocard support"? Are you on Sierra or High Sierra?

@BlueVelveteen - check these settings. In air battles it gives me about 60-90 fps, without lags and very significant drops during the dogfight. Game doesn't look pretty, but for me it is acceptable. I am afraid, that in tank battles these settins could looks a little bit worse. I enable "Metal", not "OpenGL" in launcher.

I had the same problem with 1.77. On 1.75, High settings (with OpenGL) was perfectly playable on my 2013 Mac Pro (D700). 1.77 cut FPS to about 25-29. But with the new update today (1.77.1.12), my FPS on High is 45-55, so I recommend this update for all Mac users.

Pleasantly surprised at the speedy update from Gaijin! :-)

@pilot_Pirx Thanks, I tested these and indeed I get similar performances with these exact settings but also more graphical glitches with smokes, reflects, etc. I usually play with a higher resolution of 2560x1440 (sharper edges, less aliasing) but with these custom settings enabled my framerate drops drastically. I all cases I didn't notice big differences between Metal and OpenGL since 1.77 - the latter used to give me an extra 10-15 FPS on 1.75...

@BCFN I was hopeful when I saw the changelog for the 1.77.1.12 patch ("Performance on MacOS has been improved") but unfortunately the performances in-game are still identical for me (35-55 FPS in RB GB)...

I'd be curious to have more feedback from you guys about the optimizations of this latest version.

New benchmark after upgrade to 1.77.1.12 (same settings as in my first post - overall rating: 4360)

Since 177 update my mac is unplayable due to performance issue.  I am on 10.13.3.  MacBook Pro 2012. 2.3 GHzProcessor. 16GB memory. Navidia GEForce 650M

Initially encountered crashes but got both OS & Navidia card updated and that issue stopped.  Now issue is slow screen performance.   I can't even drive tank because graphic is so slow.  Letters paint one at a time when artillery firing displays.

How do I get benchmark report?

Just updated to 177.1.7.12 with no change.

Click "Battles" in main lobby -> "Benchmark" -> "battle of berlin". Make a screenshot of your results and post here and/or there.

@toyeturtle I always played in Ultra low quality with "old videocard support" enabled and resolution 2560x1440.

@BlueVelveteen  Thank you.  Just tried it out and my overall score was 268.  FPS around 12.  Unplayable for me.  I have tried some game settings without success.  Any suggestions for the GEForce 650 graphics card?  Maybe a setting there would make a difference.  I had to update this driver in order for the game not to crash.  It seemed to take care of that but now response time is unplayable.

same problem here, even after the patch today. Still not even close to previous gameplay with settings reduced way down below whew they were BEFORE the update. jumpy, laggy, otherwise playable on a brand new 2017 Mac. hopefully more work is done, until then they've lost me as a user
