Me to. Poor performance on Linux: Fedora 26 + NVIDIA Drivers + GTX 1060. Now War Thunder is unplayable. When will be fix for this issue ?

Oh, MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.3 ./aces dosen't work either. Errors like @_WyRe_

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE will only work if you use nouveau as Your gf driver (which im almost sure You aren't using).

Oh my... I expected some FPS drops, but this haphazardly patched engine is not doing too well right now. It's the first time I see a major FPS drop at all after an update. Me too I wonder if this can be fixed inside the OpenGL3 render engine or if Mac and Linux are just going to be ported over to Vulkan (+ OpenGL for old gfx cards).

Tbh based on past releases and how bux are 'fixed' my thoughts are that in one or two releases we will have in patchnotes "linux is no longer supported".  Ive stopped playing after 1.77. I log in daily to see if they fixed performance at least to a playable state but if it wont happen in the next week or two they lost me as a player. Too many releases treating linux players as 3rd class citizens.

Remaros, not sure if this will help you or any other linux gamer reading this, but:
In my case since update 1.77 I swaped from almost 60fps to an average of 24 to 30/40fps.

Now I am at ultra low quality, and got the 60 fps at tanks again, but all looks as you can imagine.

:(

I've dropped from 45-60 on mix of mid/high settings with 16 anizotropy and max AA in 1.75 to 45!!!!! on ultra low quality with 16anizo and antialiasing on with max textures. Sometimes i wonder if they even test changes on platforms other than windows.

Yes, they aware about this dropped performance and decided to release v 1.77 with Dagor 5.0 engine, even with big BUG doing linux version unplayable at all. I don't want these all rainbows, water on the ground, new clouds effects etc. - old version was for me enough.

I have to disagree with you there, If they really didn't care about the Linux client then why would they work on implementing Vulkan? I've been using the Linux client since it was released and it had been getting better and better, Before 1.77 that is. I wouldn't give up on Gaijin yet.

Also to everyone in this thread, I can't say as I've noticed as much of a drop as some of you have, I would suggest having a look at your settings, Here's my settings for reference:

Hi @Cayari,

I have the same card, nvidia gtx 750 ti, So I imagine we see the same 80's graphic quality playing warthunder thanks to gaijin 1.77 "update".:crying:

Linux users, Do you fell as I? .That we are some kind treated like some second dish customers?

I mean , when I bought my nvidia card the seller didn t told me: Oh! Are you a linux user?, then Nvidia hardware will cost you 70% of labelled price, because from now to forever the level of service, and updated drivers will be always behind other O.S.

And here at game the same, (Not my case beeing honest); When linux users pay real money for premiums, camouflages, golden eagles or whatever; Did you ever had a discount because you would not can enjoy it as other players using other operative systems?, I think no...

:beee:

Just be happy you can run WT native on linux...

You want us to bow down also?

No i think linux users will just hold off on payments until they are happy again, because in contrast with windows users they have more brains ;)

Below is what i play with at moment, with desktop at 1680x1050

Good to hear that they are working on Vulkan client this means that linux community will have to suffer bad performance till Vulkan client is released cuz lets be honest - if they cared about mac and linux community they would not released alpha quality software that is 1.77 patch. In my humble opinion creating Vulkan client is solely motivated by the wish of having less code to maintain (crossplatform although  macs officially dont support Vulkan but there is vulkan-metal translator project) - cutently they are maintaining directx(2 versions?} opengl metal and they are writing vulkan client. So claim that they care about linux cuz they are  writing Vulkan client is false. You are moderating this subforum and subforum related to bugs on linux. Can you honestly say that based on number of bugs reported and fixed they care about linux? I cannot. Yes linux client was gettong better.  Up to a point then it stagnated an now we hit alpha quality state.  Facts are facts 1.77 is not playable for 'most'  since only 'some' linux configurations may suffer  performance issues. Right?

Fact of live is that it is very difficult for company economists to change from "Deserving cash before handing over goods" to "Handing over goods before deserving the cash".

But those people learn in due time that the latter form is the defacto on internet which will not change...

I think the Gaijin could take a step back to give 2 forward, that is, return the previous mechanic and then several tests offer the vulcan app ...

Besides the loss of performace, we have to turn around, with these black spots on the ground

I feel a little insecure and embarrassed, to put these critics here, because I do not spend anything with the game, but I do not do this to denigrate the company but to contribute (who I am haha), so that it goes forward in the possible way, sincerely

Cayari, I call it the Mordor shadow,

I mostly play simulator battles, and with that since 1.77, see the airfield to land is complicated, you have to play with the zoom, because airfield strip can dissapear into that.Or to find enemies at ground too.

Not to mention that as the graphical quality is now ULQ, find a plane can become a challenge too.

Hello, everybody.
I have a tip for some people to use the FPS here The War Thunder Steam. Install libstrangle from Github, download it from:

https://github.com/torkel104/libstrangle

unpack it and execute the following commands:

cd ~/Downloads/libstrangle-master
sudo apt-get install libc6-dev-i386 >> Ubuntu/Debian and Co...

For Arch Linux, Manjaro and Co. Just these two make commands.
make
sudo make install

This can be used to disable the FPS, for example I have set 40 FPS and I have no more frame drops.

finally right-click on the game in Steam, set properties, start options and then paste this here:

strangle FPS=any FPS %command% so in my example:

strangle FPS=40 %command%

So I removed it from 50 to 30 FPS for example, because it was quite annoying when playing. Then I prefer less FPS but can play without DROPS. I hope the English translation is easy to read, because I can hardly speak any English. So my system is:

Intel i5-3470
Nvidia Geforce 650-Ti 2GB
16 GB main memory
Arch Linux KDE Plasma 5, whereby I recently dared to install Arch Linux for the first time after a video tutorial.

Okay, War Thunder actually runs satisfactorily on high settings. Only the funny black artifacts are a nuisance, but it's okay. I hope Gajin will get more out of the Linux client soon.

Best regards from Germany. :-)

I believe Vulkan support is motivated by the fact that it is motivating to work on exciting new stuff and the hope that one day Vulkan could replace OpenGL, DirectX and Metal all the same to reduce the number of renderers maintained in parallel. (There are some people who believe every hardware vendor should have the freedom to create their own API tailored towards their hardware, but for a software developer a grand unification with strong driver validation checks in place is the best thing that can happen.)

Totally agree on Linux support having been getting better up to 1.75. I just have a feeling that OpenGL 3.3 doesn't cut it any more for the kinds of features Gaijin implemented and that raising the OpenGL level would immediately drop support for a range of customers on Apple computers. Vulkan on the other hand is emulated on OS X and not performing as well as it is supposed to. Apple wants the vendor lock-in on their proprietary Metal API which ruins the effort to make Vulkan a viable option on all devices from desktops over smart phones to consoles.

As a game developer you lose performance (Vulkan) or features (old OpenGL), so eventually you add a Metal render path. On Windows, DirectX 12 and Vulkan offer similar low level features with DirectX being taken care of by Microsoft, so you can assume better support overall and more mature developer tools. Compared to OpenGL, Vulkan will lower the CPU use because it removes a lot of the "second guessing the developer" magic happening in the driver. So it is still a viable option on other platforms. In essence there will likely still be 3 render APIs asking for developer attention.

What I expect to happen is that in order to support the low-level aspects of DirectX 12, Vulkan and Metal the engine code is undergoing a major refactoring (not adding new functionality or fixing bugs, but making the code more future proof and maintainable). Then Vulkan and Metal implementations of the engine would be fleshed out and released together with an E.T.A. of five months during which Linux performance would be lacking.

Alternatively an additional OpenGL 4.5 render path might be implemented for Linux and Windows which could arrive within a month, but doesn't help Apple users, which are still on 4.1 (or 3.3 for computers before 2011)[1]. That's why I don't believe in this scenario.

Yep, I figured displacement mapping was enabled by default when using "custom" settings. Disabling that helped a bit, but performance is still far worse in comparison to 1.75 or the Windows client on DirectX.

Oh, glad I'm not the only one having those issues. This patch surely did break some stuff. A lot, in fact

as is known by now 1.77 isn't doing linux and mac any favors as is and although they are working on it i don't see much improvement coming soon either for they took up a lot of work.

while my performance was managable early this patch i am now finding that performance is seemingly getting worse with every "tiny patch" they make, the game used to run with the black blotches all the time and framedrops every now and then, but that was about it. that was right after launch and was consistent quite a few days after, but today i launched again after about a week of not playing and performance seems to have tanked a lot, i now have stuttering all over the place in addition to the already present problems, i might have to drop the game until these issues are resolved, probably when the switch to vulkan is made...

my system isn't anything to sneeze at either, that doesn't seem to matter though as ingame it has the same performance even when i lower the settings to half or even lower the quality compared to what i run normally (which is about maximum).

has anyone else noticed and experiencing the same behaviour change over the past few weeks?
