v1.77 and -20fps and black blotches on ground

Avarus_Lux, yes someone have being suffering that performance behaviour and of course that middle earth dark shadow of Mordor.

In my case I played at max modifying some things to get as much quality as possible but trying to avoid fall from 60 fps, which were not always achieved. Now I play at ultra low quality and even then some battle fps at tanks not good enough.

I will re-formulate your question if you don't matter as It follows:

Is anyone playing from linux after 1.77 "update"  having the same or better levels of fps and quality that had when playing at 1.75 and previous?

i was more aiming in regards to the behaviour getting worse as of lately with some of the new smaller 1.77.XX.xx patches that have been released past week or so, rather then asking if someone else had the same black blotch and drops, because we all have these apparently since 1.77 so no need to highlight those over and over again...

after some more testing i also found that going from 16x 'anisotropy' to 4x did stop about half the frame stutter behaviour and made the game playable again, so that's something, not a fix, but something.

turning this setting off completely, however, didn't improve the game more as would be expected, every other setting other then maybe 'Antialiasing' improves the framerate even more, but for me personally leaving it enabled at any setting or off makes little to no difference, seems that the 'anisotropy' is the frame muncher on my system.

Guys if you guys do not mind, put the video card that you guys are using .Thank you

mine for example is a gtx 750ti / 1G

I made some progress in my settings. Now I can play with this in RB and SB

Note: I think it is worth nothing shows the settings without saying which video card be using and amount of video memory

Note2: I keep thinking sometimes about the people who like to play tank or, in the great news of Gaijin that are the naval battles. It must be terrible!

Cayari, I can upload an image of my graphical configuration, but today I am changing after try submarines, and I will try to test If I can lay behind ULQ so trying low now. I play tanks too...

Avarus, 1 I didn't noticed much from subpatches , well perhaps less strong fps drop and not so darker shadow bug(perhaps just imagining it)

2 Yes I need  to highlight it over and over again... Since I still, nor you? ;Have any new about when, how or how many Gaijin are doing to fix that mediocre linux release.

Let me attempt an explanation. As far as I can tell, the game uses a technique whereby complex texture work (terrain, roads, static shadows...) is prerendered into square terrain patches (2D textures) when you get close enough. These are subsequently used in rendering. With 1.77 there is now the additional displacement geometry to be generated and I think the density of terrain patches increased as well (maybe twofold along each axis?). That explains the notable frame-drops while moving in a tank for me.

On to the anisotropy setting: For a while now there is a technique to reduce texture load on the gfx card. It works by rendering a fake color image of then scene that shows the required texture resolution at each pixel as different colors. Full resolution textures are only loaded onto the gfx card when the fake color image shows it is needed. Here is an example. I think WT is using this same technique to determine when to generate the detailed terrain tiles. High levels of anisotropy need access to high resolution textures earlier, causing WTs algorithm to generate terrain tiles for these areas, too. That's why high anisotropy setting does not only affect texture sharpness in WT, but also the distance at which high detail terrain pops in.

(Note that I don't know any of this for sure, but it sounds convincing, right? ;))

for me the amount of fps drops got less but their intensity increased, but perhaps the same applies for me, maybe im just imagining that... as for the highlighting, its unnecessary spam of a known problem... reporting it is one thing, confirming it after someone asks if it is still there another, but no need to shove it in everything as the devs are aware and annoying them won't speed up things in any way.

as for news about the problems, the when, nope... can't say anything about that as even the devs don  have an answer and their progress of adaptingvulkan is going slower then anticipated.

the how, as far as i know and heard on reddit and the forums, they are working on fixing these issues for both linux and mac by switching over to vulkan as the current openGl shaders are not up to the task anymore and cannot keep up with the games demands.

well i know the shadow issues (which includes the big black blob in view) are likely the 'per pixel shader' that broke, there are more people that are stating the same and point towards this shader, this is happening due to openGl not being able to cope with the current iteration and demands of the game in regards to effects, lighting and shadows (all likely has to do with effects like tracks throwing up dust and exhaust smoke having a shadow layer applied to them, amongst other new effects).

the frame drops and anisotropy that eat the performance, your explanation might very well be accurate, all that we know for sure is that "something broke and they haven't been able to fix it yet", i don't know the specifics myself, but i suspect most of the issues we have have to do with the lighting and (dynamic) shadows as well as some other parts of the rendering engine that have been altered with the last update.

i hope they can fix these issues sooner rather than later but i am not counting on it, however, that they are aware and working on it, this is for certain.

I have simply stopped playing this game under Linux, clearly OpenGL has reached its limits for this game at v3.3

I'd imagine the situation is worse under PS4 consoles. FYI PS4 supports Vulkan API, just saying.....

seems the April fools update broke the game even more... as of now i have all sorts of additional shadow flickering issues ingame and various sprites going missing at random. packet loss has gone through the roof and is constantly at 30% and ping is not going below 125 either.... that coupled with players popping in in battles (invisible) because lag or whatever... F***!!

i live in the Netherlands with one of the highest grade Internet connection we can have in our area, which is about 200mb download speed and 25mb upload speed, my ping usually sits around 10 for european servers and 50-100 for the US servers of war thunder with a packet los of 0-1% for european and 0-2% for the US servers... something clearly went wrong and if it keeps getting wore i might just drop warthunder completely for the moment being, it's becoming unnacceptable.

checking the game files comes up clean, reinstalling doesn't help either, everything is up to date and should be working properly. ingame i have chatted with quite a few players experiencing the same issues so its not just me...

sorry gaijin... but; 'YOU DONE GOOFED!!!', please roll back a few things, at least for the unix, aka linux/mac users just so the game works properly again and folks can play normally once more. :/

hi Avarus_Lux :)

I know you have the best internet, but the problem of lost packets and ping has to do with the trajectory of the packages of your server to the servers of gaijin . So it may not be a problem at Gaijin

Having the same issues here in Central Illinois USA. Could be a Gaijin issue.

I think that, really after the 177 update, a lot of problems arose for people using linux, but you also have to be alert not to mix things up ...

Connection problems have always been between us, users of the game. This is not just about linux users, but about the OS and the technological part used by users' servers and also gaijin.

The problem that concerns us specifically at the moment, are the loss of performace and other, let's say visual, problems such as the "black spot" that has appeared

So, it would be interesting to open a topic in the appropriate session :)

the thing is though, before 1.75 the connection was perfect as i stated in my message, to both the european and US servers (and russian too, but i rarely play on those).

every other multiplayer game on my system bar the ones that have their servers in asia or australia have no issues at all in regards to packet loss or ping, so in this case "wasn't me", this is definitely a gaijin thing as is, especially because i come across a lot of people in my matches stating the same (and i don't know if they are on linux, mac, or windows for that matter though)

yeah connection and graphical issues are two seperate monsters, all born from the same monstrosity called the 1.77 update....

i'll leave the connection issues as is for this is a graphics thread, so the part of my message that is still valid in here is the crazy behaviour of sprites not loading and going missing at random. (see screenshot for example, happens about everywhere really)

No more black shadows and no fps drops on my system at least - kubuntu 18.04 + nvidia -

Here I continue with the shadows accompanying me ...

As for FPS tomorrow I will test ...

This dark stain that appears on the earth, should not be the shadow of the airplane

The problem still exists with the shadows under Manjaro KDE with current Nvidia drivers. Have once a test drive with a tank made, as soon as I go into the gunner view, it jerks rough. So I keep ignoring War Thuder. Have a 650 Ti 2GB... The graphic settings are set to "HIGH".

But fps drops still happen, though not as pronounced as pre-patch
