Research and purchase requirements reduced for rank 3-5 ground vehicles

As we promised previously, we are reducing the RP requirements as well as the prices in SL for vehicles, modifications, repairs and ammo in ground vehicles of ranks 3-5!

As we introduced rank 6 armoured vehicles, we had to rework research progress for the earlier ranks. Initially War Thunder was originally planned to have only 5 ranks, so research progress and game economy was designed in such a way that players would not reach top tier machines too quickly, so that they would understand all the mechanics of battle and unlock rank 5 as an experienced commander. But additionally, the progress shouldn’t take too long either - otherwise the game would be boring.

After the introduction of rank 6 we had to rework the existing system. Firstly we made progress from rank 5 to 6 smoother in terms of RP and SL requirements than from rank 4 to 5. As for the earlier ranks - it took a lot of work to make the whole progress balanced and we are now happy to announce that the changes will be implemented in one of the nearest updates.

These changes actually mean that:

  • RP requirements for vehicle and modification research will be reduced
  • SL requirements for vehicle and modification purchase will be reduced
  • Repair costs will be reduced
  • Ammunition cost will be reduced
  • Crew training will be reduced
  • Expert and ace crew qualification will be reduced

Besides this we are bringing back the requirement to own the Sturer Emil in order to purchase  the Jpz 4-5 and also the requirement to own the Jpz 4-5  to purchase RakJPz 2. These requirements were temporarily removed when the Jpz 4-5 was moved to the lightly armoured TDs branch.

Preliminary research points requirements and prices changes

When the economy update is released the mentioned changes will affect the majority of rank 3-5 ground vehicles in all nations.

All of the above mentioned changes will come into effect in one of the following updates but the exact date may still change, follow the news!

Have fun and see you on the battlefield!

Q. I was researching a vehicle and still had a little research to do for it. You lowered the requirements enough to allow an unlock with it. Will the vehicle be unlocked?

  1. Yes, it will. If the earned RP is enough for the new requirements it will suffice.

Q. Will compensation be paid to those who bought vehicles previously?

  1. No. You bought equipment under previous conditions and received it at the same time.

Q. Why were the requirements for aircraft not reduced?

  1. Ground-based equipment requirements have been reduced, as we introduced 6th rank ground-based equipment and this stymied the progress to the most modern tanks. In aviation, the 5th rank is still the  top rank.

Q. After the changes, one of the ranks has fewer machines than you require to progress to the next rank. How does that work?

  1. If there is a shortage of equipment at the rank after the vehicles have changed rank (the minimum purchased for the transition to the next rank), then the requirement for the amount of equipment purchased is correspondingly reduced.

Q. One of my purchased vehicles in the 5th rank was moved to rank 6, although I managed to open access to it. Will it now be closed to me?

  1. No. Once access is opened it won’t be closed.

Hello, I would like to ask an important question in my opinion.

Q: Will Gaijin refund/compensate all XP and Silver Lions difference in costs of vehicles?

I ask because I had bought many machines and now it turns out that said vehicle could be bought for less,

the bonus to any who had not yet bought the machine and minus for us (Players) who already have machines we GRIND for.

My humble opinion, We have rights.

I see a error there ( prob there are more errors but i don't have the time to look at it ) , the IS-2 1944 repair has gone from 3k repair in arcade to 10 k ( which is much more expensive than many vehicles 2 br higher than it).

Just wondering - Rank 6 requires 3 vehicles to unlock, but moving the Type 87 and the Type 74 to rank 6 means Japan only has 2 rank 5s... what happens there?

Also, does this mean they will not be developing the Type 74 G and/or G Kai? I presume an STC-1 is far too strong for the current stage of the game, but I'd be somewhat surprised if Japan does not receive any form of 9.0 tank.

Is there any means to see the possible modifications RP and SL changes, and would GE prices also be affected?

This one? Q. After the changes, one of the ranks has fewer machines than you require to progress to the next rank. How does that work? A. • Ammunition cost will be reduced

When you say this, does this apply for the Obj 120 maybe the APFSDS round as there 1.1k a shot and if you fire a couple more with a miss you make barely any SL. And you can't always fire Heat-FS due to objects and long ranges. Most people enjoy playing this tank but after sometime you make an average of 20k a game with premium. Maybe i suck i dunno but 1.1k is fair for such a powerful tank but i would expect to make money in a tank that cost me so much IRL money but thanks for doing this and i appreciate all the work the team does and have a good day. I mostly die in this tank as when i fire a big puff of smoke give me away xD.

If I'm researching a tier 5 tank and it gets moved to tier 6 (eg m551 or t62) will that unlock or count to unlocking tier 6 or what will happen there will I have to grind out 3 tier 5s as well as the tier 5 that got moved to tier 6?

Nice"! Tiny please.. can you please add "grinder ultimatum" etc. decal for the ultimate grinders. I'm not big grinder my self, but the real veterans could have something nice to wear (like medal to their univorm).

All in all really nice thing to do. The grind is li'l crazy right now. And the rank changes are good too. There are still some tanks that might need slight BR adjustment aswell as uptier and downtier games. But game on this magnitude and complexity is just impossibru to get exactly right and pleasing for every gamer. Thank you =)

The topic is called "Research and purchase requirements reduced for rank 3-5 ground vehicles", which is true for most tanks and highly appreciated :). But what are the reasons for increasing some of the repair costs for those tanks (e.g.: Ferdinand, Jagdtiger, Leopard I)?

I think this will help with keeping some players from leaving the game,I personally know people that left the game over repair cost . But all in all I think it is a move in the rite direction :):good:

as a new player both in WT and WoT these news/changes ALONE was enough to make this Game into my Main game instead of World of Tanks....

those cost reductions are HUGE... less grind...less upkeep..

Hell yeah.... now im not afraid to go to higer tiers because of Costs tanking my Income....

This is quite lovely in general, my only gripe is the M551 Sheridan being at Tier VI and with no RP reduction. It is my opinion that it should probably be Tier V still with a RP reduction, at least to give it a worth-while niche as an interim vehicle between a M60A1 AOS and a MBT-70.
