New to War Thunder? Step on in and say Hi :)

Hello guys! Didn't know where to write my question, so decided this would be not the worst topic for it.

As you understand I am a completely new to this game, however I played games connected to the aviation for almost 30 years, ranged from Top Gun on NES, Ace Combats, WoWps and other radical arcades to simulators like DCS and IL-2 Shturmovik, however I played sims only in single mode.

All of the games except the old ones I played with a joystick and really got used to it.

I played War Thunder for not more than 10 hours with aviation only, somehow managed to research Spitfire mk II and flew it a little bit. Played both in Arcade, Realistic and Sim mode, however I still don't really understand why how everyone beat me so easily lol)) I have a feeling that I play only with the aces who play War Thunder for 50 years and flew real P51 during WWII.

I played mostly in realistic and sim mode.

1. In realistic mode duration of my flight is about 2-3 minutes and everyone just kills me like I'm a complete Ace.

2. In sim mode I don't understand what's going on at all, I see a couple of objectives, but I can't complete them because for example:

- objective "destroy the carrier or other ships" are completely unreal because I can't destroy ships with WWII fighter lol))

- objective "destroy enemy bombers on B4" is undoable because I fly until my fuel ends and still can't see any bombers on this square

- objective "support bombers on C2" is unreal for me because I don't even understand where enemies and where my friends. I see from distance of a couple of kilometers that black pixels fire in each other with white pixels.

Also I think it's damn boring to fly to some place for 10 minutes, shoot all of my ammo during 2 minutes and fly back 10 minutes again.

What guys do I do wrong? Maybe you could suggest me anything?

Hi mate!

Saw you post by accident - as your stuff is aircraft related use next time the air force academy section.

I think most of your questions (ok all) are already answered in this forum - the main challenge is to find these posts....

As you are an experienced player i recommend having a look at the various subsections regarding realistic and sim battles. As an easy entry in flying in wt i recommend checking this thread: https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/570221-old-guy-1st-time-pvp-ab-air-exclusive-for-now/

Ik it's a lot of stuff to read but even very experienced gamers/actual pilots struggle with the game mechanics and the overall set-up of wt - at least at the beginning.

10 hours is not really much - i saw accounts here with more than 800 days of gametime. Your main issue will be crew points/skill. Go to yt and search for DEFYN vid "crew skill/ points". Regarding Spitfires - there is a nice discussion in the realistic battle section and there is obviously a need to use ManualEngineControl (MEC) for them. Last but not least there is also a discussion about joystick set-up and much more....

Have a good one!

Edit: The link to the Spitfire MEC guide:

Hello! Not new been playing for a year and a half or so. I just wasn’t able to get into the forums when I started and just just tried again recently. I just play with a few close people but it’s hard to get people to stick with this game because of the grind but hopefully they correct the economy.  I love and hate this game at the same time but can’t stop playing. Mostly ground battles but some air. We’ve learned most everything the hard way as we mostly stay to ourselves other then a few that I’ve friended. See you out there and Good  Luck!
