New to War Thunder? Step on in and say Hi :)

Hi all!  A month into it and great fun - EXCEPT the lousy auto-targeting aircraft in tank mode ... I think I've been knocked out a dozen times because of this bad flaw in the game. - And no way to turn it off????  Come on devs - some of us pay enough for this bug to be sorted out :)

Simple Controls Help! please...

I am not very new but a beginner in achievement terms and play TANKS on laptop with simple or advanced laptop controls as they come. But I get issues related to camera for shooting and Right Mouse Button

1. Sometimes I start a game and the zoom is not toggled which I find difficult. I solve it after the game usually by re-selecting simple or advanced laptop controls but I can never find the actual toggle zoom control in the controls panel. The only RMB I can see is called Target Tracking which I have no use for (I guess sometimes for AA I could try and get the hang)

2. Sometimes the target tracking is all over- active, the consequence for me is I dunno where I am looking. All i want is to press RMB and zoom in and stay zoomed. If I move Target Tracking away from RMB then I have no toggle again

,

I have just been test driving and fiddling controls but I dunno. I just seem to get lucky sometimes, and other times v frustrated...!

btw, when my tank steers all over the place of its own accord, what is likely underlying cause of that?

@Marx_is_dead  and @papafluffs

You can change those controls to whatever buttons suit you best.  Check out the Army Academy section of the forums, there are tips and tricks for these things there (use the search function if you get stuck, or send a Direct Message to a Community Helper).

You can shut off (unbind the keys) things like target tracking and such as well.

To you both:  Welcome, good luck and have fun!

Hello . I'm new to WT but not new to WWll flight Sims . I used to play IL2 Sturmovic on PC. Now I'm playing on the Nvidia Shield TV 2017 version . Big difference not having my foot pedals , flight stick and throttle controller. I still love this game even just playing with the game pad . I hope it continues on this platform .

Hi there everyone, I'm just really a casual player, usually, I only play arcade. I main British aircraft but I'm also fond of the Japanese tree (mainly just for the quick turn times on the aircraft)

I'm quite bad but oh well. I'm especially bad with tanks, just gonna put that out there, nice to meet you all

Haya~ there, everyone!

I've been playing for ... 1 month and a half? Anyway : this game is really good :

- Good graphics

- Way way better than World of Tanks

- Gud Models

- Lots of Mods

- Lots of Vehicles

- Realistic Sounds

- Has Japanese (OvO) :004_2:

Oh, by the way : should I improve myself in Japanese or German airplanes ? :dntknw:

By the way, nice to meet you all!

First off, Welcome!

I'd recommend Japanese planes as some make for very good combos with the Japanese tanks :salute:

If you really like Japan vehicles and learn to play Warthunder with Japanese Groundforces, you havent choose the easiest way, but i think a quite fun one that make a way for a good start on another nation later on. Most Japanese planes shine at turning, and quite a lot of them in the speed department. A thing that i dont like that much are the guns - they can be a pain sometimes (not every time  ).

For Groundforces, i would suggest the following planes (Fighter-bombers are the most efficient imho - because u have to fight other fighters all day long):

Ki-43 II  (2x 250kg Bombs) - Battlerating 2.0   (Realistic)

Ki-100 (2x 250kg Bombs) - Battlerating 3.7 (Realistic) - Good Training Aircraft for BNZ, very powerful at its BR

Ki-43 III otsu (2x 250kg Bombs) - Battlerating 4.0 (Realistic) - Everyone's Nightmare in Tank Realistic Battles - can even outturn most Fighters with the Bombs attached =P

A7M2 (Typ 5 Nr. 6 Mod.9 - Rocket) - Battlerating 4.7 (Realistic) - your first "Rocketfighter" for Japan - Fast n Nimble with devastating Rockets which are quite easy to master

Ki-84 ko Hayate (2x 250kg Bombs) - Battlerating 5.3 (Realistic) - my personal favorite, extreme fast and considerable good in turn (for Prop-Fighters this is the best u can get for Japanese imho)

For Germany - the planes (Fighters and Attackers) need a bit more experience to get them work (arent that turn-friendly in the first place) - in addition to that, they shine a bit more @ Cannon Close Air Support (75mm / 50mm / 37mm / 30mm Guns - like Hs129B3 / Ta152-C3 / Me410-B6-R3 and so on..) - but they are really fun too.

My last tip would be - play Realistic Groundforces (because there are no Markers) + there you can really train your flying / bombing / strafing and the properties of the planes do matter a lot (In Arcade every plane is quite nimble + turnfriendly --> in Realistic, they have a complete different flightmodel).

Greetings from Austria

Hi @Otakew

Welcome to War Thunder and to the Forums! :salute:

In general Japanese aviation in War Thunder excels in mainly turn fighting/maneuverability as they have a lot of aircraft that excel in that area such as the A6M series and Ki-84. Germany mainly requires a different approach as there play style is in general different to that of Japan's. They lean towards a more BnZ style of gameplay and have the armament to do well in that style. Although they do have aircraft among the tree that can also do moderately well in turn based fighting.

So in the end i guess it really depends on your preferred play style. :good:

Cheers

HI, Ace newbie here.  Playing tanks only right now.  over 12,000 games on WOT Xbox.  Big difference over here!  Keyboard control is very confusing and I can't take a hit without dying; but, I like how the scoring emphasizes team play.  Just started and working the US tree; just got the M3 Stuart -- what a big improvement over the other options at level 1.

Belong to BNKR on the other side; notice that lots of my clan mates have moved to WT.  See why!

My account  handle is  Hana3503.  That's good for here also.

Be warned, I'm all thumbs but I would very much like to make friends and squad.

Bunch of questions about controls and definitions.  Will make separate questions.  Great to be here!

Hana

Hi, everybody. I've been playing War Thunder about 2 weeks and only now do I feel I have enough time to shoot the bull about it. I've been that busy learning as much as I can about how to set up the controls and practice using them in order to learn how to fly. Quite the challenge. The idea of actually shooting something down is hilarious. My only goal is to make it through one arcade battle without dying. It's an exciting and realistic interface and I've fallen in love with using the keyboard for flight controls and the mousepad only for viewing. Anybody else feel that way? Good luk. Now go out and shoot something!
