Could not unpack some files

7 posts in this topic

After updating I get this message "Could not unpack some files. This can happen when there is already a file with such name in the directory and it could not be removed"

How can I fix this?

Thank you in advance

the file(s) in question is / are usually mentioned in the launcher log... the launcher logs are located in the ..\War Thunder\.launcher_log\  folder.

if you got difficulties reading the logs you may upload the latest log here on the forums so we may have a look into it.

often enough manually deleting the file(s) that cannot be deleted / replaced in the WT game folder before starting the launcher will solve the

issue.

looks as if it's the same issue the OP got... the aces.exe cannot be unpacked / replaced in the ..\War Thunder\win64\ folder.

this may be caused by the anti virus software, the file being corrupted or the game still running in the background.

so besides making sure that the game isn't still running you may want to check (the logs of) your anti virus software to see

if it's for any reason blocking the aces.exe. at your own discretion and risk you may also either temporarily disable your av

software or add the War Thunder folder to the exception list (you may have to restart the system for this to take effect).

some av software tend to still block files though even when they are disabled or an exception has been made (especially

if a file has been blocked before - in this case you may have to have a look into the quarantine / virus chest / virus container

and remove the file(s) related to War Thunder)

also having a look into the mentioned folder and manually remove / delete the aces.exe before starting the launcher may help.

(error 5 usually means that the access to the file is denied...so it should be present)

I also have this issue. Removed from quarantine any WT folders, added exception's, even though they were done anyway on both AVG and windows firewall and deleted the aces.exe file including the dev ones. And still have the issue. Haven't had a problem before in the past 5 or so years, so why now? Now deleted the game and trying a new install.
