That makes sense.

Do not have production dates for MG 81, but if we go by the 88A-4 which started entering service in very late 1940 and did have the MG 81J (not the twin 81Z) then it would be a number of months before start showing up in other aircraft.  88 was the LW baby, got all the good toys.

 

It would be safe to say the 196A-5 was rolled into service late 1941 or early 1942.

Such a shame this beautiful aircraft made such a small appearance in the game - considering that hundreds of examples were built I think it should make a more permanent appearance. I suggest as the Finnish export model at tier I in the Swedish Tech Tree.

 

The A-5 is visually identical aside from the rear turret which has was upgraded to a MG-81Z, it had extended 90 round magazines for each 20mil and likely had armour plating behind pilots seat and gunners position (there is not much information about this I can find).

 

It's such a beautiful cockpit and model it's such a waste to not have it in the game - especially for people like me (it is one of my favourite aircraft ever), I want to fly it so badly but I wasn't even playing in Operation S.U.M.M.E.R back in 2020...

Yeah...That is precisely the problem (A-3 not A-5) So where is it (A-5) in the German tree?

Wellll... kind of.... the A-5 in the Swedish Tree is missing 5 out of 6 of it's historical upgrades.

 

It should have the following upgrades from the A-3

- BMW 132W engine (more powerful output)

- Armour plating in cabin 

- MG FF/M cannon with extended rounds

- Extra shackles to carry up to 4x 100kg bombs

- switchable LKk/42 12.7mm Machine gun in nose cowling

 

The only upgrade it got was the MG 81Z rear gun, so basically we have in game an A-3 with a different rear gun, not a real A-5. I, with some help, have submitted a bug report for it's inaccuracies - would appreciate support on it: https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/NMBQGEPCcThq
