I can't recall that the weather actually hides one air field but nor the other. Is that so or is it symmetric?

I wonder if the soccer cup gets cancelled when half the teams quit due to playing against the sun.

I had a match with the Ki-43 Otsu on the Top of the World map where the southern spawn was completely covered in clouds.

The fighter, assaulter and half of the bomber spawns were covered in clouds.

That provided a very solid defense against spawn campers.

That on itself is ok. The problem was that the northen spawning team had clear skies.

In other words, they had a hard time spawncamping my team and my team had no major problems spawncamping the enemy team.

Such situations are rare, but are a real pain in the ass when they happen.

The sun... no matter how intense. Should always be positioned to either the left or right of the map.

Both sides can still use it to their advantage if they are clever enough to position themselves effectively.

Attacking enemies whilst using the sun to obscure your position is a valid tactic and adds a bit more dynamic to the game.

However randomly gifting a team this advantage by placing the sun behind their spawn point is cheap.

And the same with cloud cover. Either the skies are clear... patchy... or the whole map is cloud covered.

Giving both teams equal opportunity to take advantage of them.

Nothing like spawning with your retinas melting because the sun is against your face.

Lensflare for the burning fireball, haze for the annoying white glow on the further edges of the map.

If that doesn't work, try fooling around with the PostFX settings.

It doesn't make that much of a difference now does it? Is it that infuriating that you quit the game????

Lack of situational awareness maybe?

Making lame condensing remarks to boost one's own ego lol.

Obviously.... if it makes me quit matches then yes, to my mind it does make that much of a difference.

My situational awareness like most others could always be improved on whilst not being lacking either.

If that sounded anywhere near that then I'm sorry. I used to whine about the position of the sun back when I was a scrub. But after I got the hang of it and learned it does not make any difference 99% of the time, even I don't fly into the sun to "have an advantage" because it doesn't have any influence. But just quitting matches for that reason seems a tiny bit over the top IMO. The only thing you could make you have a bit more of an "element of surprise" is using the clouds, but even that annoys me and a lot of Bnz players nowadays since literally 2/3 matches have them and sometimes even up to 6km+ which is less than ideal. Sometimes I can literally HEAR the planes that sneak up to me before my pilot spots them (which are distances as close as 0.5km). That's how bad clouds are nowadays. Still not worth just quitting the match though.

I agree... This has been an ongoing issue.  Actually there are two separate issues that spawn from this.

Problems:

1.  Players leaving the game early because they don't like the map/mode or only brought one vehicle and died in it.

2.  A player may disconnect from a game and be penalized with a crew lock upon return.

Fixes:

4.  Make the "J" out function exclusive for vehicles parked on the airfield.  This prevents bombers from "J"ing out when an enemy climbs all the way up to them and gets close.  If someone wants a new vehicle they can just crash it into the ground or go exchange it on the airfield with a correct "J" out.

This may seem harsh, but lets be honest... it probably only seems harsh if you are the type that bails on matches a lot.

"We're burning! Bail out now! No...now!...no...now!...no, we must land before bail out...."

As far as I know if you keep the sun on your back you are harder to spot.

The whole sun position situation is more of a problem on RB than on AB TBH.

I know that it's "supposed" to do that, but next time it happens to you, send me a message. And i'm talking about a game without clouds and only sun.

fair enough.

I quit more because of Gaijin forever promoting themselves as a developer who is forever striving for 'balance'

And then throw you an unnecessary curve ball with really unrealistic one side weather conditions.

To me that is just loonisy

The weather conditions can be just as varied as they are now 'which I enjoy' whilst giving neither side an advantage.

And it seems to be logical to do so 'at least to me'

As I stated earlier... last time I quit due to a sun issue was on Merchant fleet.

And the sun was ridiculous.... three times the size it should be... and placed behind the opposing team's spawn.

Wish Id kept a replay... It was unreal... like we were on the planet Mercury  WTF lol

Played a game of AirDom and the weather was like Venus! But I didnt mind that unrealistic scenario because both teams had been delt the same cards.

Its an unbalancing game dynamic that simply does not need to be there.

We have enough issues with MM and BR and god knows what else.

So why do they add unbalanced weather conditions into the mix? 'Whilst supposedly striving for more balance'

For some time. meteo conditions just get out of control, make me think to the idiot-savant lab who imagine he discover a cure for cancer but instead he release a deadly virus.

We get clouds so heavy and opaque we barely can see the tips of our wings: ANYWHERE on ww2 on such weather the pilots get grounded (hell, even today with all modern tech the weather can close an airport !) - but hey, NOT on fraking Gaijin game, here planes must fly no matter the weather !

Not once I get myself unable to tell where the hell its up and down after a loop, no reference points, all around are fraking withe, and  sometime you get  a cliff rushing to you and smashing your plane because you only realize there its a mountain when you are 50 m away !

I bet the "smart guy" on the dev team who decide this kind of nonsense NEVER take a plane and fly in such weather to see for himself how absurd  the things are !

And yes, like Tina here so well said, some maps remind me of Venus - all red and alien !

Dont get me wrong... Im not realy complaining about 'extreme' meteo conditions in Arcade... so long as they dont give a distinct advantage to either team.

Playing in thick cloud is an absolute god send for a bomber player. And can make bomber intercepting a very challenging and rewarding thing 'not in rewards... just in the hunt itself'

Ive been shot down many a time in a cloudy sky by a plane I didnt see untill it was too late. And Ive shot down plenty myself by hiding in clouds. Its a condition which whilst random... is also balanced.

And yes flying in think cloud is crazy. I can never tell what way Im facing. And have to use my speed indicator just to tell weather Im climbing or diving lol

Dropping 2x500kg bombs onto a Light Cruiser and only scoring 'hits' in all three passes.

Passes made at below 500m. All bombs land on target.

Shot down before I can make another pass. So Pe2 basically scores nothing.

Quit! lol

Absolutely ridiculous hit detection.

Why would anyone bother continuing to play a match that presents itself as being that flawed?

Players who complain about others who leave matches early really need to be asking what the reasons are instead of just blaming these players and proclaiming a 'good team player' never quits a match.

Well part of the behavior being discussed also includes bringing only one vehicle into battle, losing it and the leaving the battle. In your mind is the reason I do this a legitimate one, because to me it is. I want my vehicles to suck for the shortest time possible.

But even here, I get stuck with a single vehicle in a particular BR and only play it, most games I have that vehicle and contribute for most if not all of the game, so there's no problem there, except that there are games where I get killed early on am out of the game. So I have done exactly the same thing, but because I was unlucky to get killed early I'm suddenly the bad guy on the team?

I agree with you 100% if I have only one vehicle to field, or choose to only field one vehicle that my choice and no one else's.

Gaijin actually promote the use of a single plane in arcade because it reduces the BR by 0.3

If they want to discourage this tactic then surely the BR should be increased?

Not many players would be taking a single aircraft then.

I'm not sure that's "promoting" it, since you could do the same thing by just putting some slightly lower BR planes in your lineup.

If you want to reduce the overall BR of your lineup you need to bring 3 planes into the battle.

Actually that's not true.  If you field a single plane and send the rest on holiday, you get 0.3 lower BR, just as if you had fielded 2 additional lower BR planes to downtier.

the hit detection reach an astonish level this week: I got games where I taker out a pillbox with a 1 sec burst of 20mm (vampire ) and, 10 min later, an 4000lbs bomb dropped from 4-500m RIGHT ON TOP of a pillbox give me an "hit" only;

Or I crit 2-3 times a plane, he crash 10 sec later - I got nothing, not even a poor "assist" !

It gives the player who fields just one plane in Arcade a BR reduction.

Therefore it promotes the use of a single plane lineup.

Sure you can reduce your BR by using different planes. I have lineups like that.

In the Russian tree fielding a P47 'BR 2.7' LA5FN 'BR 3.3' and a P63A 'BR 3.7' gives an overall average of 3.3

Giving you three fighters that are very VERY good at that battle rating.

Right, so what incentive do you have to fly ONLY the P63-A at 3.3 when you can have that lineup?  Yes, you get a BR reduction, but you also get only 1 life... some may like this for the challenge, but I don't see the BR reduction as an incentive.

Well it's certainly not 'discouraging' the use of a single plane.

Add to which, only crews that have planes assigned to them will be lock if not used within the first eight minuets of play.

So a player can take a single plane... with a BR reduction... into a match. Die early... then join another match using a different crew.

I cant really see why there is this reduction for a single aircraft lineup. It's not how Arcade is supposed to be played. Leaving a match after dying only once is surely not something Gaijin want to encourage.

Yet not only is there no penalty for using a single aircraft, you actually get a reward 'in BR reduction' for doing so.

Logically I would have imagined that increasing the BR of a single plane lineup to actively discourage players from doing this would have made more sense.

If players want to use a single plane lineup then thats up to them. BR reduction can be achieved by using multipul planes of differing BR. So they should not get this reduction.

They already get the bonus of only getting that single crew locked should they die early. I think that's enough of a bonus.

In the example I gave above... with a P47, LA5, and P63A

Played in a lineup together I get a BR of 3.3

But if I only use to P63A and leave the match early... the other two will become locked.

Or... I could field each singly. Giving them BRs of 2.3 - 3.0 - 3.3 respectively

With the added bonus of only having the crew Im using being locked should I leave a match early.

This surely does encourage players to use a single plane lineup in Arcade if indeed that is their preferred play style.

Im not sitting in judgement of their play style. Just baffled as to why the present system rewards them for doing so.

It would certainly be very hypocritical of me to take some higher ground when I freely admit to quitting matches early when something pisses me off lol

And the crew lock is flawed in other ways to.

Just had a game of Domination where my team got absolutely trashed.

No one capped so the match was very short... about 5 minuets.

So after being shot down I quit the match. The ticket count showed there was probably 20seconds of the match left so no point even spawning another plane. It was obvious I would just spend 20 seconds flying to where the action was... score nothing. And get a 'lost match' struck against that plane as well.

Even so... Im crew locked for 2 minuets for leaving 'early'.

It's a very broken system in many respects.

Which is why I pay no attention to it.

Did I sit the 2 minuets out and join another match? Did I **** lol!

Logged off and will now spend a couple of hours doing other things before going back for another game.

Given the fact they would early like players to play more often. Flaws in the crew lock system like this should be addressed.

Whilst it does not annoy me so much that I refuse to play another match for hours in some kind of lame protest... once Im logged out it's rare for me to go back for a few hours.

with the "erasing process" (read "killing the brits line") of british jets between 6,3 to 8.0 - I see more and more players bringing ONLY ONE jet - since its THE ONLY WAY to down-tier that jet from 8.0 to 7.7.

Hell, even PRO 100 guys do that !

So yes, Gaijin DO PROMOTE & encourage the use of a single plane since, for the brits, if you join ANY other plane with a lower BR on the 8.0 line you NEVER can down-tier since the BR difference its to big.

So, we get  games like 5 vs 5 where 1-2 players only bring a plane or the opposite, (and after 5 min or less become 5 vs 2 ) .....

OR,   24 players on that crap map of desert coast or rice fields, a 2 square meters map with 24 planes most of them able to reach over 1000km/h - so you will get the crazy "return to battlecrap" msg every 10 seconds ;

Imagine 24 piranhas in a tinny bath - tube : this is the Gaijin idea of Tier V fight.... in Arcade.
