Plans for testing "Air Defense" aircraft with an air spawn.

Due to active discussion of the suggested feature I will describe our further steps in a few words.
In the first place I would like to assure you that we will not introduce these changes without proper preparation. First we will make one or 2 missions as a part of an event where we will try this new concept relying on your feedback. After that we will make any decisions about developing this further. Always a good idea to test things out, hope to see the event in the very near future as it sounds promising and would like to test it myself.

I'm into it. I've always been in favour of basing RP gains and SL gains on performing the task your aircraft was designed for. So the most efficient way for escort fighters to earn RP and SL is to protect friendly bombers, and the most efficient way for interceptors to do the same is to kill bombers, attackers attack, air superiority fighters fight other fighters, etc. etc.

 

I think if we can incentivise playing according to your aircraft's historical role the game will be more fun overall.

I think its a great idea. It could actually make both bombers and bomber hunters useful! Two birds with one stone!!!

Even better if these mechanics get implemented alongside RB Enduring Confrontation with Frontlines.

There should be bonuses for planes doing their role and severe penalties for planes not doing the role they chose to do when they spawned in.

For planes that can do multiple roles, they pick one when they spawn in and can land at an airstrip, J out, and reselect their role. Picking a role automatically selects certain armament options like ground belts, but added ordinance would remain optional.

Then allow people to J out at friendly airstrips and change planes free of the SL fee. You should pay the first time you fly out, and if you do not die you can always have the option to land at an airstrip and switch planes free of charge, only paying the fee again if you die.

Offtopic:

If you are changing spawn rules, can I suggest a spawn modification?

Naval fighters and bombers in naval missions...
Please, consider giving us air spawn in naval missions (like army aircraft), we have a huge disvantage where we should perform better...

or, maybe, exclusive missions for naval planes, no one having air spawn (the best of the possible worlds).

Very good propposal, it can bring heavy fighters to early match, sometimes they need to climb for minutes to be effective. Higher spawn for bombers is also very nice, the current spawn is 'forcing' them to dive because they usually meet enemy fighters at the middle of the map (and sideclimbing is boring in a bomber).

I'm all for testing improved gameplay.

 

But this sounds like bad news for bombers (do they really need any more trouble ?) :

Bomber spawn @ 6km alt + hunters @ 3km is much worse than the current 3-4km bomber spawn + airfield for hunters, since I suppose hunters will spawn at 300kmh speed.

 

AND the only kill bombers can get every now and then are some fighter planes.

This means zero kills from now on ....

 

"If" bombers stay high, this means at least more fighters vs fighters combat and less "half team goes after first bomber they see".

But I'm definitely sure bombers will take advantage of that altitude to speed dive on a target. 

 

Anyway, let's give it a try :good:

As always the system will be abused in a way or another , the whole RB mechanics need to be remake from trash imo.

They need to be ripped out by the roots and rebuilt from the ground up so it doesn't blatantly favor Team Deathmatch over any other objective. Or just replace regular RB with Enduring Confrontation because it's generally flat out better despite its lack of polish in certain areas.

I'd use RB EC for fighters.
Sim EC for bombers.
Both for lawnmowers.

But even in RB and Sim EC I think that certain heavy fighters should get an airspawn, and bombers should be able to rearm by crossing the map border behind their own side's airfields, encouraging them to stay at altitude.

It's even better at defeating persistent bomber spam in T4 Sim EC.

I shot down 5 enemy bombers in my most recent match.

How do you prevent people from milking it by abusing airsprawn to rush fighters that are climbing? And also, if you are talking about "historical role", planes like the p51 should get 8000m airsprawn, sounds fun, huh?

Nice idea.

 

But first, let's state the obvious.

Bombers still don't have any impact in RB games, except crippling your team because you're not in a fighter. (and the 1% or less rounds where bombers destroy the airfield)

Also, the maximum number of bombers per team needs to be adressed.

And then, we have the payload problem. If you want things to be fair, you have to consider the difference in tonnage between nations at each BRs (and btw, make sure all bombers have their historical payloads ;))

Don't spawn the bomber way ahead of the team.

And finaly, if you want players to jump in bombers, you'll have to think about rewards. Because you take the maximum risk, for the longest time, and can get shot down and get nothing. (plus it's boring anyway)

 

Now, the idea of dedicated air defense aircraft isn't bad in itself, but i don't think you want to play on starting altitude.

Because it doesn't matter what you decide, most bombers don't climb well. So 6K vs 3k... almost the same as 3k vs airfield.

 

It would be nice to have bomber formations, escorts, fights vs enemy formations, etc.

But i don't see how we could pull this off in a normal RB round 16 vs 16.

EC Is a very good place to start, though, the maps are wide enough.

What i would like to ask is if you guys are still holding true to your plans to test this first and listen to feedback.  Some people may like the way the idea sounds, but others are worried it needs to be evaluated in a event or some form of test like you stated in the OP (Original Post.)

 

 

So in short just asking if Gaijin is still planning on holding true to statesments as given here, as some of us are worried this feature may be rushed into normal battles and could cause serious issues.

What i would like to ask is if you guys are still holding true to your plans to test this first and listen to feedback. Some people may like the way the idea sounds, but others are worried it needs to be evaluated in a event or some form of test like you stated in the OP (Original Post.)


So in short just asking if Gaijin is still planning on holding true to statesments as given here, as some of us are worried this feature may be rushed into normal battles and could cause serious issues.


That could potentially signify an overhaul of Enduring Confrontation's Frontline concept. Attackers are essentially useless in Sim EC at this point.

Ground pounding does not pay well enough to justify the effort and risk involved, when the silver lion rewards in higher tiers (4 & 5) should be practically tripled or at least doubled to make it easier for a dedicated attacker to meet their repair bills by doing their proper role.

Winning the Frontline Battles also is pretty lackluster, up to chance mostly, and the effect on team score is so low it's basically ignorable. Yet there is no end to the supply of greedy fighter pilots hovering overhead waiting for easy kills despite the fact that attackers realistically get only one (maybe 1.5) targets to go after at any given time while bombers can end matches far faster and when fighters chase lawnmowers, the bombers get through and decide the match.

Attackers and Frontline Bombers (such as Stukas, Helldivers, IL2s, Pe2s, etc) need a massive overhaul in mission design for EC so they have a fighting chance to do their job and be more important in winning the match.

For all missions in the game mode [Operation], new air respawn points have been added. Respawn points for fighters are further from the mission objectives than the airfield. Respawn points for bombers and attackers are closer. Altitude for respawn points:
Attackers: 1000 m
Bombers: 3000 m
Long-range bombers: 4000 m
Interceptors: 2000 m
Air defence fighters: 3000 m
