Ingame decals using historically (on air and ground vehicles)

This topic experienced more then 1100 views without problem and all member like. Now somebody sent a report to the moderators about the forbidden symbols (some picture from the many dozens). I say that was the history, and If someone doesn't want to see these, don't see this topic, but the sadly is, that the others are interesting to him. It isn't fair. I search the historical pictures for long time and show the history only to the community. I don't support the forbidden symbols.

 

I'm sorry, but I finished here this topic, in turn I made with pleasure. If somebody want, search and show the others.

 

If to somebody need help to one-one decal I help in private.

 

This topic's views went over 2100! I see this is necessary, so I will continue.

 

I saw we received the last decal pack with tactical numbers. Here is two from it, because this numbers don't have information.

US "711" - M4A1(76)W from 714th Tank Battalion, 12th Armored Division - two side on case of rear-third

looks good the two colour (base green and black) painting and the white stars (two side too)

 

US "E-1" - M4A1(76)W from 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Armored Division - two side of turret

looks good the two colour (base green and brown) painting what don't have white star

The Decal you can get in game for destroying 700 ground units with a B-24D, "Ready for Duty", was not actually a real decal.
The "Ready for Duty" decal was painted as the cover for a pin up art book, it was derived from the B-24D Sack Time's nose decal
Sack Time was one of the few bombers lost to the Sonderkommando Elbe (German Kamikazes)

 

B-17 Wolfess, of the 364th Bombing Squadron, 305th Bombing group, 8th Air Force

 

B-24H-G Bomb Babe, of 866th Bombing Squadron, 494th Bomb Group, 7th Air Force

And an interesting thing. The "Sack Time" (this is a slang from "time spent sleeping in bed") B-24 has an other colour than what the game uses.

The B-24 was in the 374th Bomb Squadron, 308th Bomb Group and this Group took off from Chinese and Indian airfields. These Liberators were black or dark blue because "...the group primarily conducted night missions in search of enemy submarines and shipping, hence the black paint."

The "Sack Time" was a B-24M version.

Irish Air Force roundel and the No. 1 Fightzer Squadron of IAC (Irish Air Corps)

the Irish AF used the roundel on same and similar RAF positions and under the wing was the Irish tricolor

 

the Gladiator Mk 1 used the unit insignia under the canopy on the two side of fulsage

 

the Irish AF used two Hurrican version (I, IIA, IIB and IIC)

the No.1 FS insignia was on two side of nose in two position under the exhaust - flown with two camouflage painting (green-brown and green-grey)

 

looks good on second (no.105) plane

 

insignia was on two side of nose under the exhaust on the Seafire Mk III - flown in full grey-green colour

 

 

 

the insignia used on two side of nose under the canopy on Vampire T-11 (trainer) - overall silver

the DAK insignia was on the center of front armour and on two side of turret (on this picture was after the number)

looks good the insignia of 15th Pz.Div. on the turret side

and on the two side of case

 

and with 21th Pz.Div. insignia on the right side of front armour - the 15th Pz.Div. used this position too

or

right side of front armour (on the F version used only this position) and on the two side of case - looks good the balkenkreuz on the side of case

 

on two side of turret - looks good the insignia of 15th Pz.Div. right side on the front armour

I see rarely historical usage of "Victory marks".

I show some Russian example to this now.

You use with correct!!! I use these proportion of updates.

one of the most common - on left side of fulsage behind the canopy and over the Russian star roundel

here is on a Lagg-3

 

on a Yak-1

 

on a Hurrican

 

the red star and the tactical number overpainted with these on a La-5

 

and on an I-16 (the pilot very rarely used "Victory Marks" on I-16 - I saw only this yet - this was an I-16 type 24)

 

used under the canopy too

here is on a Lagg-3

 

on La-5

 

on a Yak-9

 

on Il-2

 

and here is under and further back the canopy on a Yak-1 (mainly on Yaks)

 

right (or two) side on tail (rarely - only on Yaks - here was on a Yak-1B)

 

I don't found victory marks on Mig-3

US Victory marks

on P-38s

the most common place was under the canopy (like at most US plane)

here was with Japanese flags

 

and with German cross and an other mission or mission marker over these

 

and the other was

on nose with Japanese flags

 

and with German cross, small plane and bomb mission markers (Tunisia)

 

on P-39s

small plane marks before the door on two side

 

and same at another unit

or small Japanese flag(s) on similar place, but little bit higher under the canopy

 

at same unit

 

on P-40s

the most common place was under the canopy

here was with Japanese flags

 

and same with german cross over North Africa

I see the new obtainable (Battle Task) decal what from the USAF

the 405th Bomb Squadron's tiger head

used on more B-25 variant - on the two side of nose

 

 

 

 

the last Task decals was the triple headed dragon nose art from the RCAF's No.419 Squadron

this art was on Edward Hancock's Halifax - between the pilot canopy and the side window of nose

some ingame ground tactical number

the Russian "65" - two side of case ISU-152

looks good the "338th Guards Heavy Selfpropelled Artillery Regiment" insignia (turn down the ingame 41st Guards Tank Brigade decal) on front armour - the text after the number is "Osvobozhdenie Kirovohrad" (Liberation Ukraine)

 

 

the Russian "513" - on two side of T-V (captured Panther) turret

looks good the other ingame (8th Guards tank corps) unit decal and a big white star marker too on two side on the turret

 

 

and the German "334" - two side on turret of Kingtiger (H) - look with "spots" camouflage

 

 

this Kingtiger serviced in the Schwere SS PanzerAbteilung 501 - the Kingtiger used ambush paintig in Ardennes, what missing from the game

on Dicker Max - on two side of center of case - looks good the small unit insignia (isn't in the game) on the first one-third of case

on Sturer Emil

on two side of the first one-third of case and looks a little bit on the right rear panel - the small unit insignia (isn't in the game) before the cross

 

looks a little bit on the right rear panel here too

 

 

I don' saw picture, where this vehicles wore camo painting (like the ingame Tiger and Spots) - usable surely only the standard grey and winter now

thanks for this awesome work, i'm thinking of redo all vehicles/decals shown here, i hope you cover all decals available in game. keep up the good work.

@mods i also think this thread should be pinned to help all.

since we cannot extend decals like old time and make cool patterns , gaijin should also put some effort into creating a in-game system which gives option to add historical decals on correct vehicle and its positioning, if you have unlocked or bought that decal.

I glad when I read an post like your and this give to power to this job! 

I have many topic with great and historical ideas (to air and ground forces from more nation - you find under my profile) and I hope these will be, but I saw the developers don't saw these topics or don't like my ideas.

The developers made more decals what the unit used short and early times or don't used on vehicle, or don't used on appropriate vehicle.

an example: Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 512

looks good the ingame "leaping tiger" decal (what we got in this year) on the door of additional car - barely visible on vehicle in the game

BUT

the unit's Jagdtigers used the teddybear insignia, what I showed one year ago.

The US unit liked use the simple and roundel star in bigger number and variable places.

M10 Wolverine

on center of front armour

on two side of case or

on two side of turret or

both

on the rear of case and somtimes on the turret too

 

M18 Hellcat

on center of front armour and on two side of turret - here with two insignia on turret (on turret and on a turret side stowage)

and with the simple stars

and on center of rear armour - here looks anothers on the turret and case side too

here is on two side of front case, what rare but here was on sides of rear case too

Here are some other decal

US "758" tactical number - M4A6 Sherman (isn't in game) - this version was service at training units and the 777th Tnk.Bat. in Fort Knox, but

I read these used at US Marine in the Pacific Theater too and this picture confirms this information.

 

Axis "244" tactical number - on three side of turret of Panther - looks good the German cross on the rear armour and at front on two side of case - unicolour painting

 

Axis "535" tactical number - on three side of turret of Pz.38(t)

 

Allied "Cossack" tank inscription - under the side window on right side of case of M3 Lee - C Squadron, 150th Regiment RAC (Royal Armoured Corps), Burma

I believe it was applied just after Bader was shot down and interrened by the Germans.

 

a little information to this inscription:

This plane was service in the No.616 Squadron and Douglas Bader was the leader of the squadron. From this name born this (Bader’s Bus Co.) play on words.

"Wing’s notice boards – ‘Bader’s Bus Company – daily tickets to the Continent – Return tickets only!’"

 

I added a little additional information (sources to inscriptions, nose arts and others) to some decals.

I found the ancestor of Shangri-La nose art

SHANGRI-LA DECAL POST

The 4th Fighter Group with the 336th Fighter Squadron formed from the RAF No.71 "Eagle" Squadron, what has large number of American volunteers.

William Robert "Billy" Dunn (callsign "Poppy") was one of them and his Hurrican Mk II has the Disney's fighter eagle art, affectionately known as the "Boxing Chicken" (this will be the patch of 4th FG) - right side on nose with victory marks

 

and looks on a survivor Spitfire Mk II of No.71 Sqn. too - viktory marks on the usual place - under the canopy

the German "JG 27" I Gruppen decal

was two side on two position on nose of Bf 109E, F, G versions only - more painting sheme usabel to this decal, because this squadron worked on more front

 

and backward on Bf 109E 

 

with early painting

 

forward on Bf 109F-4 trop.

 

the German "JG 54" III Gruppen decal

an early use was on early Bf 109 (this is a D-1) version of the JG 21 (this unit will be JG 54) - under/before the canopy and on the nose the squadron insignia

and here was on sides of nose - here on a Bf 109E-4

 

Here is the real JG 54 use on a Bf 109G-2 - under/before the canopy on the usual place  - looks good the "Green Heart" squadron insignia too under the canopy and the 9th Staffel insignia on the nose - usable on E, F and G versions

 

and here too

and on two side of case under the canopy on the Green Heart squadron insignia

this was use on the early Fw 190 (A) versions
