Ingame decals using historically (on air and ground vehicles)

Hi members!

 

I wrote in a suggesion topicban, that would be good an addition to the game, about how using historically (wich vehicle, on where,...) the ingame decals on the planes and ground vehicles. I think I make a topic with this theme, because It will not be created according to me. I want show here the historical pictures and illustration, what find in this theme.

 

The first is "Eric Lock's Victory hand sign", what now available.

the picture made from his Spitfire MK V (look the "Victory Marks" under the canopy), but

 

Eric Lock used a Spitfire MK IA in the early times (without this art) - usable on this too maybe if somebody want

 

and the second is an opposite side

the German 10.(N)/JG 26 "cat" decal

This is Joachim Bohner Jever with his Bf 109 D1 (on two side under the canopy) - this isn't in the game, but if somebody want the decal usable the early Bf 109 E versions because 18 Feb 1940 the unit redesignated 11./JG2 (i don't saw example from it)

the next two from the Allied inscriptions:

the first decal is unhistorical now, but I show here the historical

"The Pacific Pioneer" - B-29 bomber and look the "Victory Marks" on the nose

 

 

The second isn't entirely historical too, but similar.

the first ground insignia is the French 2nd Armored Division "2^e Division Blindée"

This was a bigger unit vith many vehicle. - this division insignia usable at the green unicolor painting

an other decals from RAF

Tally-Ho - No. 609 Squadron - this was the squadron motto

(the Tally-Ho is a British phrase, what they used at the foxhunting - this is a mark shout to the hounds at the target spotting)

R.P. Beaumont's Typhoon - I don't saw on other plane yet, but the squadron used Spitfire Mk I and Mk V versions earlier.

Dominic Salvatore "Don" Gentile's "Shangri-La" (Shangri-La is a mythical kingdom hidden somewhere in Hollow Earth in the Tibetan beliefs and this inspired  the fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by author James Hilton)

looks good the Viktory Marks under the canopy

 

but he used an similar (Buckeye-Don) nose art on an US Spitfire MK V (1942)

 

and the third (Donnie Boy) on a P-47D-5 (Jan. 1944)

Two decals from the Battle of Britain

Willie McKnight's "skeletons" - under the canopy on two side of Hurrican Mk I - He fight with this plane only, because he died early.(Jan. 1941)

German 9./JG 26's winged lion decal - Bf 109 E3 and E4, but usable at all E version with early painting - on two side under the canopy

 

looks good the "S" insignia of "JG 26" under / before the canopy

Bill Cosgrove's "Eat-Em-Alive" (a reference to the Richmond Football Club, because he played in this team) art - on nose of Beaufighter Mk VIC - No. 30 Squadron RAAF (usable on the Mk 21 too, because it have Australian painting)

I found two vehicles with it yet. (I read the Philippines used M10 tank destroyer too, but the unit...)

two side of M4A1

 

and later on center of front armour of M41 and here looks good the Daisy Mae decal too on the turret side

390th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion's "Gollywampus Gremlin" (The origin of Gremlins, mischievous, goblin-like creatures who took great delight in sabotaging planes, dates back to the first half of the 20th century.) decal

M13, M15, M16 - I dont know, that used this insignia on the later vehicles (M19, M42) too

on the two side of M16, behind the door - looks good the white star too

Charles Gordon Gladstone Prior's "Plonky" (this is a slang from an alocholic, who is partial to cheap drinks) nose art - right side, after the engine cowling

 

"Flying Kiwi" - unidentified New Zealander TBF Avanger from the No. 30 Squadron - right side, after the engine cowling

 

The source was a caricature (Who said the kiwi couldn't fly?) in the "The New Zealand Railways Magazine" from 1939.

German "Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653" insignia - Tiger (P) Ferdinand, Pz.Bfw.VI Tiger (P) - the unit later used Jagdtiger too, but I don't find picture from this insignia on it.

Well, thanks, I was always wondering what tank "From Hell" was used on. (I was assuming an M18, lol)... Cant exactly attach pictures, but for what it's worth I know a few of 'em. "In The Mood" was an M4A1 76 (and an M10 Wolverine, the M4A1 76 replaced it), "Adolph's Assassin" was an M12 (artillery), "Franche-Comte" was an M7 Priest (more arty, lol), and im pretty sure "Destruction" was on an M5 Stuart (along with a use of that Red Devil emblem)... I dont know the divisions or much extra info off the top of my head though.

During the battle, In the Mood was credited with killing 70 German soldiers and three armored vehicles before it was destroyed by Panzer fire. The crew survived and christened a new Sherman as "In the Mood."..."

"Franche-Comte" (Free County - this is a former administrative region and a traditional province of eastern France - "Franche Comté de Bourgogne" (Free County of Burgundy))

the first from your infromation:

on case left side of M7 Priest looks good over the 2nd AD insignia - 31st Firing Battery, 64ème Régiment d'Artillerie, 2nd Armored Division (French)

BUT

I can show another version, what now usable

on case two side of M4 and looks good before the 2nd AD insignia - 3rd Company, 12ème Régiment de Chasseurs d'Afrique, 2nd Armored Division

 

and looks good the "French Armored Force" insignia on front armour right side

 

AND later the "Franche-Comte II" M4A1 after, when the first destroyed

I search your "In the Mood" M10, but I dont found yet. This doesn't mean that it wasn't yet.

 

"The 3rd Armored Division landed in Normandy on June 24, 1944 with years of training but no combat experience...In the Mood first saw combat at Villers-Fossard on June 29, 1944."

 

"...He successively commanded three Sherman tanks, an M4A1, and two M4A1(76)Ws, all of which bore the nickname “IN THE MOOD” I-III..."

 

"...In the Mood took its own hits in the fighting and was destroyed three times. The first tank to bear the name was destroyed at Villers-Fossard. The second was destroyed by friendly fire from a P-38 on August 17, 1944..."

 

"The third and last was destroyed on the night of 15 September while CCA was attempting to force the Siegfried Line at Munsterbusch, southwest of Aachen. The tank was hit by an ambushing Panther, and while Pool was trying to back his damaged Sherman up, the Panther hit it a second time. The second round caught the tank on the edge of a ditch and flipped it over. The same round blew Pool out of the commander’s hatch, seriously slashing open one of his legs with a shell splinter. This tank (and Audie Murphy's M10) inspired the "Fury" movie.

 

I found a picture from M55 "Bigfoot" (inscription on barrel), but I found only one illustration from M55 "Big Shoot" (inscription on edifice) unfortunately yet.

 

The M40 has the nickname "Big shot" yet.

 

I think not sure, that this is a real nickname from WW2.
