The Quick "Question and Answer/Advice" Thread

How do you play the SU-57 to its strengths?

Play it like the 75mm GMC; you set up as far away from an objective as possible while still retaining line of sight, and shoot at the moving targets.

Try to set up on a backwards slope as well so even if they kill your engine you can still slide to safety.

Straight-line speed is essential with gun-trucks, as their low maneuverability and slow gun traverse means that anything moving too fast can get out of your line of sight and kill you.

Essentially boom and zoom with the SU-57, as the firepower and rate of fire means that single targets caught unaware are easy pickings. Use the speed to set up in as remote of a location as possible to increase your survivability.

Uh, quick question for the tank aficionados: What is the best way to deal with T-34s and Cromwells with the short-barrel Panzers? My Panzer IV C, E and F1 all shriek and wimp out in the face of attacks by those things.

T34

Use HEAT on either their gunner or their exposed recoil mechanism. The 3.3 1940's L11 gun is harder to break than the later variants, but it is still only protected by a slightly angled 45mm plate.

Cromwells don't have exposed recoil mechanisms, but they do have an easy flat front to pen. Spam HEAT into the gunner, basically.

If you meet them from the side, try the regular PzGr39. It'll most likely destroy the gun, if not the rest of the turret crew.

(This was all theorycraft)

P.S. Ramming T34s with the stubby STUG works surprisingly well with HEAT. From the front they can't depress enough to hit you, and your gun will eventually hit something important.

I'll give that a try, but I'm still a very mediocre tanker (i.e. very little RB tank experience). I would have thought the German tonks would have been decent at 2.3, but it's very difficult (well, when I use them) to take pesky Russian and British mediums out. Perhaps I should have started with 'Murica or glorious Rossiya???

America might be good, but Russia will just spoil you. It is good to learn proper shot placement with the stubby 75s so you can appreciate the long-barreled 75s that come next.

P.S. Rip you for getting uptiered that hard

I keep having to deal with Cromwells and late-model Valentines. Crusaders I can cope with, but not Cromwells and Valentines.

A circa-1940 tank cannot cope against a tank that entered service during D-Day.

get the PzIII's with the long 50 ASAP and then they will be no major issue. I recommend the III over the IV as it is better armored, has a forgiving Rof and great mobility

Dont feel too bad about valentines, they are a pain to deal with even in the T34

i can squad if you would like later toady

Is there any way to see how many Backups you have outside of a Battle?

I tried searching for the answer, but came up blank.

Right-click on vehicle icon, select modifications and you'll see an icon named backups.

Okay, sorry. I saw that before, but always dismissed it because it was a "purchase" thing.

I didn't know it showed your freebies.

Ok sorry, my last question might not have been as clearly articulated as I wanted. What I wanted to ask was this:

After you die in Arcade Battles you have the choice of 2 views- Spectator or Mini-map. Spectator shows the player's viewpoint, and Mini-map shows that player almost entirely greyed out behind the enlarged Mini-map.

I was wondering if there was any way to bring up the Mini-map while you are in Spectator mode just like when you're actually playing. I know you can see the Tank/Vehicle behind the Mini-map when you're in that mode, but it's so greyed out and obscured it's almost impossible to follow that player's actions.

How do you do the "attention to the grid square" or "attention to the map" announcements?

Open the map, click where you want to have that message.

I saw a post half a year ago involving that tanks could smoothly steer with the mouse. Where is that setting?

I have there are actually more now than when I  was getting matches, 30+ now as opposed to 12-15 on the weekend!!?  Its a shame but ill have to go back to WOT where i can get perfect connections but would love if the devs at Gaijin would come up with a better solution for those of us in the Pacific and a better matchmaking system.

A quick info q:

Is there a database of battle rewards and their symbols anywhere?

I recently got one with a silhouette of a person holding a flag/banner. I forgot to commit it to memory, and I was just curious what it was.

Ok, no answer to my previous question. No prob, I have a new one:

Is it possible to take damage that doesn't show up on the (ground) vehicle diagram in-game?

I finished a game today in which I took no damage, but my AAR in "New Messages" said I had a "Damaged Vehicle", and it cost me a free repair. I've watched the replay twice to confirm it, and I didn't get hit by anything the entire game.

Just wondering if I should go through the whole deal of reporting this as a bug, or not.

I would be interested to look into that issue.

If you really want to jump into the bug reporting, I would kindly ask you (since I might be the one reading it) to comply with the guide lines when writing it down. It will not be accepted otherwise, and aside from me during my "good mood hours", bug reports which are not following the guide lines are generally discarded.

You can jump here: https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/forum/590-flight-and-damage-model-issues/

And follow the guide lines shown there: http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/104340-flightmovement-and-damage-model-issues-important-read-before-posting/

As I said, nothing bad if you don't want to do it, but if you still have the willing, please do it right ;)

Is there any way to run a replay that has been saved (wrpl file), but has been knocked off the in-game replays list due to time/battles since? I wanted to make a recording of a specific battle. I renamed it and saved a copy (plus the day's clog files), but I played so many battles since that it got bumped of the replays list.

This was all post-update, and I use OBS for my recordings.

The only files shat should be bumped off by additional matches played are the unnamed ones. I'd think it should still be there.

It's in my C/WarThunder/Replays folder (plus the saved copy on my desktop), but it doesn't show up on my replays list in game.

Thx, NoKu.

Living in the Philippines, I usually play in the US/EU/RU servers -- The lag isn't too bad on the contrary.

What advantage does the American tech tree have that makes it possible for them to Boom and Zoom effectively? On the contrary, their qualities seem to be what you wouldn't expect from an energy fighter.

It seems to have bad climb rate (important to get away from enemies quick), rather crappy armament (50cals are peashooters, honestly) and what I've heard is that their dive speed is godly. On the contrary, wouldn't that be what one fears in a BnZ fighter, as it causes its pilot to black out even more after pulling out, not to mention the bigger danger of ripping wings?

And also, what optimal altitude should one pull off a Boom and Zoom in AB and RB (P-47)?
