The M18 doesnt use the 3 inch M7.

Early versions uses the 76mm M1A1 and later on M1A2s which differ greatly from the 3 inch M7 in breach design.

The breach of the 76mm M1A1/A2 is angled towards the ammo rack right next to it. The whole point of those features was to allow quicker reloads.

[spoiler]

M18

I dont think it would take 10 seconds to move a 76mm shell 10cm into an angled breach.

And no im not defending the M18 in terms of balance, im just stating the facts.

"Schadenfreude" I believe is the correct term here.

nope it had an round irl that could be classified as Pzgr.39 but it never was there are 2 rounds it should have first as standart Pzgr. with around 241mm pen at 10m

and second Pzgr. rot (this one looks similar to an Pzgr. 39) with 271mm pen at 10m

the ingame designation of those rounds are also wrong standart round should be Pzgr. (APHE) and the next Pzgr. rot (ABCBCHE_T)

u can read it more detailed here https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/238222-wrong-ammunition-designation-and-wrong-penetraiton-values-of-the-105-cm-kwk46-l68/

Just to clarify; is the gun on the M18 not the m1a2 (which had better anti tank performance than the M7)?

actually:

http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/238222-wrong-ammunition-designation-and-wrong-penetraiton-values-of-the-105-cm-kwk46-l68/

but afaikt he Maus and the JT should have hte Pzgr 43 as default ammo... and the upgrade should be a APDS that was developed specifically for the Maus (but that has the same gun as the JT so... and for balancing at it's current br that'd be necessary imho) with 250mm pen at 1kilometre... angle i don't know at the moment

A slight nerf to the M10 and M18 TD's was required, whether or not this is enough remains to be seen.

Also no mention of the spawn bug fix which has been in game almost as long as we've been able to drive tanks...

So when will you take away the 150 octane fuel from the russian spitfires since they did NOT use them ?

In attempt to prevent rage about "nerf" of Hellcat's ROF - here's documentation made by Soviets, who showed interest in acquiring Hellcat via Lend-Lease program, and were testing a single exemplary in 1944. It is designated as T70 GMC - this was Hellcat's original designation, before it was renamed to M18 GMC.

Full documentation (in Russian) is here, but for this topic, particularly interesting is this excerpt. Soviets tested M1 gun rate of fire, and conclusion (as it is stated in the document was following)

  • technical (eg. unaimed maximum) rate of fire = 11,4 RPM
  • aimed rate of fire without shifting fire = 9,7 RPM
  • aimed rate of fire with shifting fire = 7,7 RPM

Interesting note - T70 GMC was rejected by Soviets for it's weak armour, high fuel consumption and high octane fuel, which Soviets viewed as potentially dangerous in case of fire onboard.

So I think, that reducing Hellcat's ROF is totally not some "balance nerf", but it is rather adjusting it to historical values.

But then why not leave it at the technical RoF? I mean, lots of tank guns already use their technical RoF from what I know, so why should the US 76mms be any different? :dntknw:

Well if it´s realistic fine. Rate of fire is not the main issue of these vehicles though.

Will not take GF seriously until you find a way to make the lightly armored vehicles the deathtraps they deserve to be under fire instead of the most durable vehicles in the game or at least adjust the BRs properly, though.

So far 1.7x has made a complete mess of balance and I seem to remember that you did not want to take the road of historical tiering to excuse imbalance. In other words you broke it, so fix it! And better be quick about it.
