 ''When editing the wikipedia, in all circumstances please do NOT edit, touch or delete any of the coding.''
Unless it is a major improvement.

Hello eager members  of the community!

This little guide shall show you how to edit our Wikipedia website.

KNOWN ISSUE! "@var-bug" e.g: http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=M4A2_Sherman_(1944)
Caused by the game API library. Some pages cannot download ingame data. This is due a misreference of the HTML title.
Sadly there is no current workaround. When you see it ignore it, or improve it to an not noticable level.

Standards:

As we are an internation community with players from all around the world, something must be kept in mind:
Most of us are not native English speakers. Always keep that in mind when writing an article.

  • Simplicity rules
  • "You", and other easy to understand informal phrases are fine, if there is no similar easy to understand substitute
  • British english is standard. But it really does not matter.
  •
  • SAVE OFTEN WITH Word or Notepad!!! Browser can crash :)
  • Please use Word to look for spelling mistakes ;)
  • YOU CAN PREVIEW text with the preview button. nothing will get lost.
  • The Wiki has a good help section, when editing. jsut click on "Help" ;)
  • Break up long texts with a new line. Either " <br /> ", " <br> ", or press enter twice
  • Astrixes * and Hastags # create lists
  • Equal signs = mark headers and create chapters in the Contents box. The more you use left and write, the lower the chapter index gets e.g. ==Chapter 1== ===Sub-chapter 1.1===
  • Apostrophs ' used more than once create ' ' sarif' ' and ' ' 'bold' ' ' text.
  • <div> and </div> are like big brackets "(" and ")" and change the text within them. They are part of the page code.
  • Anything with  a double underscore __ initiates code e.g. __MODIFICATIONS__ please do not touch/edit these. You can move them though in their entirety.
  • __TOC__ creates the Contents box, __NOTOC__ disables it (don't!)
  • Leaving an empty space left of a text will create a quote box. It's weird I know. Just don't leave any space between the left edit border and the first letter and everything is fine ;)

Layouts:

Default Pages:

  1. Tanks http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Default_tank_page&action=edit
  2. Planes http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Default_aircraft_page&action=edit

The following examples should inspire you and show the current design.
The current standard layout can be seen in action here:

Templates:  Please copy paste from the links. White space index format cannot be saved on forum.

  • Cannons / Machine guns / Auto weapons  tables free for copy paste, in format and mostly done. http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=User:Battalionier
    Made by our Chief weapons editor Battalionier

I'll be glad to contribute now that my exams are over!  :salute:

Also...

"The German M4A2 has three types of deadly ammunition"

I gonna undo all of your changes. I did by the way went through all of your single changes and approved the grammar/spelling mistakes one. Not all was "lost" now.

"@var:description" <- that's code. If you cannot replace it with something usefull, it will be there until it works.

"Description will be ready soon." may be seen at every other working "tank" page, but if the Devs decide to add info ingame, it will then also appear in our wiki.

It creates double the work later on.

Deleting/Overwriting that code is fine IF you have an equally good text THATS NOT FROM WIKIPEDIA. Sorry for caps, but that simply ain't good.

Wikipedia text gets deleting within nanoseconds, so beware.

TL;DR: Do not delete code! Unless you add a wall of text instead.

I appreciate the effort. But it creates more for me.

Info: All KV-1 pages are broken. The API code goes haywire with them e.g. KV-1 L11 shows ZIS data. But not vice versa as the ZIS is the 85 one etc...

Sorry about that. I realised later, but I thought it would probably be easier for you to go to a previous revision. Sorry.  8/s

Should I wait for official game info to be added or write my own for those without a description in game? Same for those with var error?

NVM, time to consult my books.

Another minor thing: Ho 229. The change back to var=title there was uneccessary. That is a good example of a code worth beeing replaced. The page is 100% done content wise. Eg: the stat box on the right works.

"Description Soon" is there, as I am personally writing on it right now ;) But you couldn't knew that. And watch out while editing Moderators posts. They tend to get angry about even small changes :)

EDIT:

FYI: The Ho229 drag rudder is not an issue ingame. The games physics engine can only model normal monoplanes (not even biplanes). Even the J7W is more of a glitch/exploit modelling in that regard.

And other minor things: [[Mk108|Mk108]], Me262A engines was right. Correcting something may result in further mistakes, I learned that the hard way in my Physics study.

The thing is simple:

I have to be quite strict and German like.

We want to everything to look the same manner and style. Which is impossible irl with over 100 writers.

So the only way we have is a strict rule. We are sorry for that, but it saves us alot of work.

Best example is ammo and guns. Please look for that on the example pages.

EDIT: Added Gun & Bombs templates

My format for adding armament:

== Armament ==
=== Main armament ===
==== Weaponry ====
* 1 × size name type (rds)

==== Defensive turrets ====
* 2 x Turret: 1 x size name type (rds)

=== Payload ===
* 4 × size kg bombs
* 2 × size kg + 2 × size kg bombs

Note to self:

To-do list:

  • Finish adding armaments
  • Format armaments
  • Add "optional" tags to payloads

Finished list:

  • LaGG-3-8 (only need to do history and combat usage)

The one thing we are desperately trying to achieve on the Wikipedia is consistency. No doubt it is a good format, but we don't want different formats, and we want people to just stick with one. I will let Mario hit you up on this, because i do not know what should be done. :salute:

If I remember correctly I posted the REAL armament format above -.-

I can't approve a single one of your edits as they are not proforma.

Solo formats are fine in long texts, because everyone has his own writing style.

But short info snacks have to follow the same form.

And please. Take one aircraft and add all information at once.

I get an heartattack from 100 new edits which are only <100byte each... (I do have to check every last one of them)

However, you can be proud on your German attitude. +1 from me. But please follow the format ;_(

EDIT:

http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Fw_190_D-12

Note: We ain't sure on bombs yet. "+" is easy to understand, but " | " looks better. For now that's up to your own decision. (But we likely go for |)

Oh. Damn. Sorry, didn't see the spoiler...

Well, the ones I put in had the same information and I was planning to go through and add all of the pros and cons for them. I've even listed them down.

Maybe you could approve them for now? And I can change the layout to match the one you have provided quite easily. Saves me (or someone else) from having to look them up and transcribe them again...

:dntknw:

EDIT: on all of the pages "Take off distance" in the information pane is written as "Take on distance"  :Ps

Thought so, maybe something to pass on or report as a bug?

It has been passed on, but as with everything both game wise, and outside it takes a very long time.

Ill pass it on again though, as it has been long enough Kv13gsl.png

Random question: How can I edit Arado 234B-2 to Ar 234 B-2?
http://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Arado_234B-2

Here, but you might want to double check with an editor beforehand.

^Yepp, thats the code. And agreed. Such major obvious changes in naming should be adressed to us first.

But as Ar 234B-2 is the official German designation I see no issueas and already implemented it ;)
