Love the videos long5hot, I don't see a video or a video request for a FW 190 film? I bough the premium version in the Japanese line, I like it, but I feel a bit exposed in head on and chase situation, it seems like its armoured with cardboard. Any tips would be great, a video even better as a visual representation is always best. But I see you have a lot of requests and you may have opened a can of worms here!!!! LoL, no sleep for you. But seriously, even a few tips in a reply would be nice....keep up the vids though, they are good. As for the accent...I'm English, so growing up with Neighbours, Home and Away etc...I know an Aussie when I hear one. Fair dinkum cobber...or something (cringe).:-(

:kamikadze: Much Honor with this new review, the emperor congratulates you on an impressive record!

Actually the Emperor probably wouldn't be too impressed with my advice to retreat in front of enemy waves and then attack when friends arrive ;)

You say you are a moderate pilot but you are already better than me, I just derp around, You use tactical thinking :D

If you can think you can survive, I can't really think that well.

I too was once a derper in fighters as low level bombing raids was my thing, but when the splash nerfs started to make that unrewarding I decided that I needed to learn the art of dogfighting rather than just throw planes away. I knew that kind of gameplay was lacking in skill and that I'd quickly become bored of it if I didn't improve. Its baby steps really - learn one new good habit or maneuver and practice it till its second nature, then when you're ready learn another.

Its also (for me) being determined to survive at all costs, which means not getting into dumb situations in the first place & only engaging when I have an advantage, and if I must die then to make it as difficult for the enemy as possible to get the kill including dragging them right across the width of the map if I can't outfly them. I often get angry when I lose a plane, but its always at myself for doing something stupid.

Haha! Fair dinkum try! You'll fit right in down under...  :Ps I think long5hot is focusing on the non-premium, low tier, and neglected fighters. Even the non-premium Fw190 is a bit high up for most "beginners". But now with the A-1, a Fw190 tutorial/analysis could be a possibility.

Interestingly I've not yet flown the Fw190 A-1, but I'll add it to the poll as I've read other people saying its hard to fly effectively. Therefore I guess if you can do ok in an A-1 the others should be relatively easy.

Don't worry about suggesting planes, as this series really makes me try harder than I otherwise would to master these planes & therefore increases my enjoyment of the game. As I (hopefully) develop as a pilot I can share my learning process and hopefully that's more helpful to others than an ace pilot showing off 30 kill streaks without an explanation in layman's terms of what they're doing ;)

And, well, cobber hasn't been used in Australia for probably about 50 years. Its all good though :)

I know what you mean about the "cobber" usage being outdated. Its like everybody thinking English people all went to Eton and talk like the Queen. When in reality that is the very elitist, upper echelons who drink Pimms while "what, whatting" every other word...Phew, I feel better for sharing that. But back on topic, the FW 190 came highly recommended and I wonder if you might offer a suggestion for another premium fighter as I am looking at one more purchase. The Mustang has been mentioned a lot, as has the BF 109, Spitfire etc...a want something very well armed, overpowered even. I am not the best at aiming in this game so I need to take advantage of any opportunity and the better the gun the better my chance of a one pass/one burst kill. It is better if it agile (which the FW 190 is) and can turn well. Any thoughts?

I daresay you are British ol' chap!  :Ps

As for the suggestions you are asking of us, I should say for a heavily armed aircraft anyone would go for the Mustang. Four ruddy Hispanos! No wonder those Luftwaffle guys were scared of it. But I should say the Krauts' Fw 190s are pretty heavily armed too. The Yankee Bf 109 disappointingly, has a distinctive lack of gunpods, but the A6M2 is great at turning (and burning). All in all, the Fw 190 or the 'Stang are your best bets for OP-ness and firepower. Tally-ho laddy!  :salute:

Well to be honest I'm not an expert on higher tier premiums, so its not really the easiest question for me to answer. I personally own the 2 Boomerangs, the Havoc and the US Ki-61. After seeing the Boomers, which were originally OP killing machines of death, moved up to the same BR as I-185s, Bf109 G-2s, Yak-3s, and higher than the Typhoon 1b ... its made me extremely wary of buying premium planes, especially as the same thing happened to the premium Ishak.

The Mustang looked good until 1.39, when apparently its FM was seriously nerfed. I was about to buy it as well next time it appeared on a Steam sale, but not now. Spitfires appear destined to be a premium in every country except Japan, but I don't know what they're like or how they stack up against the competition.

I'd suggest posting your question as a new thread on the Arcade forum, as you'll certainly get a much wider & better informed range of views than here.

Edit: And here I was thinking that all Brits talked like Jamie Oliver :) Edited by long5hot

Jamie Oliver is lisping mockney (that's a fake cockney, in case you didn't know) who I personally despise!!! Other than the Mustang I only see the Bf 109 as being a stand out. I quite like my Heavy fighters, though they can be difficult to work with if you don't understand them. They are too big to out turn or out fox a fighter, and aren't strong enough or armed with sufficient bomb loads to really make it as a properly small bomber. I think they are OK if you can get low and strafe as their guns are OK, on my Japanese and German line anyway, but that, naturally, leaves you exposed. I understand that the Beaufighter is a good heavy fighter/medium bomber type alternative to the extremes of fighter/bomber. Maybe a series of films highlighting the strongest and weakest in each class of each tier? So, the best/worst fighter, bomber, heavy fighter etc...in each tier and a simple 1-5 rating on each main category (climb speed, guns, armour strength, repair costs). I understand that would be quite an undertaking and appreciate you may not want to begin an endless cycle of request, film, request, film...I'm sure you have a life. But if you can spare the time, and catalogue the films you've already made, I would watch them, I would recommend them to everyone I can, including in the game and it might grow into something. But that's your decision, old bean, toodle pip...

I have attempted to practice the snap roll maneuver but I believe my computer will not recognize more than 2 letter key inputs at one time. When depressing keys for pitch (w), yaw (e), roll (d) My audio begins to beep and only 2 of the control inputs will appear to be active. Different planes or snap direction(L/R) makes little difference. I either get a non axial roll or a pitch up banking in the direction of rudder input. Anyone else have this experience?

Everything so far has been very instructive. What to do and what not to do  comments have been much more useful than many of the other tactic or plane review vids that are out. good.gif

That sounds like either a hardware or a windows driver issue to me, very odd. I hope you find a solution :\

Trust me I'm pretty good at showing what not to do :)

Status update - I have a plethora of video recorded for the ki-61 and the MiG-3, and I've even start on the He51 as well (got terror of the sky first time I flew it). I just need to find the time to go delving through all that footage and slap together some coherent vids.

Haha, well, so am I ... and its not a connection I'd made until you mentioned it. Dammit, now I need to find a new music style for future vids :\

Please don't change the music style, I think it fits your narration and overall pacing of the videos perfectly. There are already too many "loud" videos out there, no need for yours to be another one.

Here be the Ki-61...

MiG-3-15 BK is next.

you are too focused on kills as metric, the point of the ki-61 and mig3-15 series is that you progress from anemic weaponry to some fairly potent stuff by the time you get to the 3rd version(the mig3 in the upcoming 1.41 has 2 shkas).  they are training planes, you learn to keep guns on target with the .30 cals and move up to slightly more effective .50 cals and eventually you get cannons.  since both series are mostly bnz it forces you to be more disciplined during the learning process(though i think you can afford to do some wider vertical and horizontal turns given how light they are).

also small cal weapon loadouts allow you to get more hit xp. even if you dont get the kill, if you can keep the crosshairs on target you can get hit xp nearly equivalent to the kill xp from cannon snipes.  you can grind these planes cheaply and farm hits on bombers to unlock the next plane in the series.  i once milked something like 700 hit xp off of a PBY, just because all i had was .30 cals and couldnt get the quick kill.

i'm not saying the ki61 isnt painfull to fly, but there is a reason behind it.

Yes I agree, this plane is an opportunity to learn good tactics before progressing onto more powerful versions. That's exactly the point I made in the MC202, Bf109 E-1 and He112 V-5 vids. The problem with the Ki-61 is that unlike those other planes, this is tiered too high. If you want to learn to fly a plane that's outclassed and ineffective in most battles then yes I guess this is the plane for you. Were it tiered the same as the MC202 which fills much the same energy fighter role, is a little less agile but a lot faster & climbs better, then I'd have no problem at all with this plane - I'd fly it all the time in fact.

Its also worth noting that the cannon armed Ki61 is also way overtiered, so its not as if its easy street once you get to it. A good turnfighter can survive and prosper in arcade when overtiered simply because people derp around at ground level in Fw190s, but an outclassed energy fighter has nowhere to go when facing significantly faster & better armed opponents.

Kills as a metric is really the only measure of a dedicated fighter. Shooting down planes is its job, its whole purpose for existing. Its not how many it gets, that'll vary depending on the tactics you employ & how much of a risk taker you are, its the ability of the plane to get the kill once it has positional advantage. If a fighter can't reliably knock out a target once in its sights, that fighter just isn't very good in my opinion. In low tier 2 planes are much easier to set alight, and that's where the Ki61 becomes viable.

So I can't tell people that I'm happy with a plane that's only capable of one or two kills per mission in tier 3 games, due to its lack of hitting power combined with the quality of opponents it faces and the short battle duration. To be honest it frustrated the life out of me. Maybe with its BR lowered to 2.7 as is mooted in 1.41 it'll be better (note I was already flying it at an average 2.7 BR). Edited by long5hot

That's usally more a issue with your keybord than your computer,

Great video Longshot, Love the ending.

i personally love the ki61, i think is more effective than the MC 202, at least for me, the Traces shell are very effective starting a fire.

Anxious to see your thoughts on the mig 3. i am way  more effective on a lagg 3 than in the migs 3, so advice will be very useful.

Another excellent vid and sound track...Too bad you can't merge the weapons of the HE 112 with the handling of the Ki-61...I hope they bring in the newly discovered Kenworth Diesel Jet, I would be interested in what you think of a diesel powered jet...

Hey. Enjoy the videos a lot. Would be fun to fly that well one day...

Anyway, does the review for the Ki-61 also apply to the captured US premium? Is that premium worth buying?
