Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS

I pre-ordered this in January. Original ship date was 4/3 but mine shipped on 2/14. not sure how or why I got lucky but I figured I would share my review because I could only find one grainy video on it when I was searching for more information. $199 free shipping from Mad Catz and worth every red cent.

Thank you very much for the good work. Amazon stills says 2-3 months until shipping... Hmm.... Would love to give the Rhino a try.

Thanks Gator for taking the time to report on this great product.

I too am one of the lucky first pre-order recipients, and am blown away by the looks and feel of the X-55.

I also have the Combat Rudder Pedals, and so far as I have had a chance to use them think that they are the perfect match to the Rhino controls.

Good Hunting!

Thanks for the Video. Anyone found an review that compares the X55 Rhino with the Warthog?

Warthog is "the best of best", X55 is brother of X56F and son of X52 (IMHO)

Little X-55 info from early owner too :   https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/102572/so-i-got-my-saitek-x-55-rhino-early/p1

I just got the x55 as well and then discovered this game to try. But I'm having a problem with the control setup. War Thunder is recognizing the setting of axis just fine but it is unable to recognize any buttons at all. I am unable to set any of this HOTAS buttons to actions in the game. Has anyone else had this issue?

EDIT: Resolved it. The game doesn't like that there are some buttons "always on" on this HOTAS. Switching the mode dial on the throttle changes these buttons and allowed me to assign controls.

Eh, I have used both. The sloppy throttle on the Warthog (has too much play IMHO for a $500 stick) as compared to the X-55 (not a single cm of play) is like day and night. Plus some of the switches on the Warthog feel sloppy and cheap. If the Warthog were cased in plastic, it would be just another controller. So I suppose if you want a HEAVY joystick set up, then the Warthog would be it. I can't jump on the bandwagon though, $300 extra dollars for added weight seems hardly worth it.

I got mine for 302 €. So was quite lucky. Otherwise I would agree with you, through I don't own the X55 Rhino for direct comparison

Edit: In combination with the Saitek Combat Rudders the X55 would be a better fit...(Thrustmaster, why can u not into rudder pedals!?)

Pre Ordered my X-55.  Can't wait!!.

Along with eventually getting a oculus dk2 (or consumer version).  Warthunder simulator battles will become a more standard game mode for myself.  I sure do hope Warthunder keeps implementing better VR and joystick support.

Also, would you so kind to maybe share your X-55 config file for warthunder?  I am just starting to take the plunge into sim battles, so far a steep learning curve, but so bloody rewarding!!.

hi , gator i have just ordered this stick , and was wondering wether you could post your blk file for this save me lots of set up time , and have you set up differnt profiles for different planes  cheers mate great vid

Link above should bring you right to the post where I put it. As of right now I only have one profile (just starting out with SB) but lots of guys use (or need in some cases) different profiles for different aircraft.

Good luck!

Paxfounder got me thinking... Im liking the cockpit idea to add to my immersion. I think this is next for my set up.. $579 everything included (except electronics and shipping).

Gator, i have just received this stick today and your config is perfect. I absolutely love it. My only problem is my flaps, engine, and trim are constantly toggling without any action from me whatsoever. Have you experienced this before and is there any way to solve it? I am running the latest software and drivers.

Hmm.. never heard of this and I have not had any problems at all. I was reading that someone was having an issue with different modes, mode 2 and 3 would do weird things in WT (specifically button assignments and on/off functionality). I would make sure you are using Mode 1 and maybe try a clean install of the software. Delete the software, reboot then re-install, reboot, then try the game and see if it's working correctly.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Gator, I initially tried the different modes to no avail. I uninstalled the software and upon reinstallation, the problem persisted but was not as bad as before. I then uninstalled everything all over again and during reinstallation there was an error, I uninstalled everything again and finally it installed properly. I can now play without any incidents at all, thanks for the advice.

With regards to your config, could you happen to post the latest one you use? I am very impressed by your POV settings on the hat, the only thing is I am trying and failing at trying to make a look back right and look back left button, which is quick and not slow. That is my only complaint.

As you can tell this is my first joystick and trying to configure it properly is making me pull my hair out, if you had not posted your config I would be struggling. Thanks again!
