Bases and airfields in arcade battles, spawn height

Please leave your opinion using the form below

1. Battles played in arcade - ____ battles
Not sure, but 180+ hours, all arcade.

2. Preferred aircraft class - fighter/bomber/attacker
I fly all, but stink at aiming in fighter, so have been bombing to earn lions.

3. Are the changes noticeable? yes/no
Yes. Cannot survive long enough in bomber for base bombing since change.

4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly. Yes/no
No

5. Gameplay became better/worse/did not change
Way worst for my bombers.

6. My thoughts in general
Interesting that you need bombers to win the match (even in the 2 base domination in order to cap), either by destroying bases or ground targets, then make it almost impossible to use them. If you lawn mow, you are just diving into a hornets nest and die. Now if you try to stay at altitude, you die without hitting anything.
While I appreciate the attempt to fix a problem, I agree with other posters that fixing a Yer issue (which I don't have yet) by making other bombers fighter food doesn't really fix the game. I am now forced to dive at ground targets to get any SL or RP at all. Don't worry about re-arm time, as you will rarely get off a second bomb load.

1. Battles played in arcade: 1397 battles.
2. Preferred aircraft class - fighter/bomber/attacker: fly all of them.
3. Are the changes noticeable? YES.
4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly. Yes/no: Not really paying attention to that part.
5. Gameplay became better/worse/did not change: WAY WORSE.
6. My thoughts in general:

Whilst I understand the frustration with the Yers, and I fly them, this patch is just pandering to lazy fighter pilots. Very few games were ended by Yer rushes. Yes, it was frustrating when this happened. However, my personal opinion is that a lot of fighter pilots were whining not because game time was being shortened but because they were not having their routine seal clubbing 15+ kill games.

Heaven forbid that they were being forced to think for a change and work as a team in defending bases, rather than just lawn mowing at 0 feet altitude.

I always preferred bombing from altitude. Would only dive when it was obvious that, as usual there was no fighter cover, and I had enemy fighter pilots coming towards me.

I saw thread after thread, by fighter pilots, complaining that they couldn't get up to bomber altitude before this patch. Strange that I always saw enemy fighters managing it, and I managed to do so when I was flying fighters. 20-25 degrees angle and plenty of WEP soon got me up to the enemy bombers, and way before any potential Yer rush. I would always go for them first and I've lost count of the amount of times that I intercepted one before it started to dive. It was easy. Just fly towards one of them and open up as it passes you. 8/10 I would destroy it in the first pass. If my targeted Yer started to dive, I would leave it for the lawn mowers and move on to my next bomber target.

So, how do I feel about War Thunder now?

Meh.

I only play it now for the x2/x4 bonuses whereas I used to play it for 3/4 hours daily. I work from home so I have plenty of spare time.

I'm also p*ssed off at the amount of money Gaijin has stolen from me. That is how it feels. I put quite a sum of real money into crew training, buying extra crew slots, a premium plane, and a premium account ..... and this patch has sh*t all over me. As I said in another thread ..... it feels like I've been sold a car and the dealer crept round in the night and took its wheels.

The 'other' game ain't worth a light, so I won't be going there. However, my love and appreciation for War Thunder has been severely diminished by this patch. I have no problem with going up against OP planes, or planes from higher tiers. What I object to is that fact that Gaijin have totally neutered a third of my Russian, American, and British hangars just to appease lazy fighters and to address a problem, airfield rushing, that had been pretty much fixed by the previous patch.

I have no problem with this patch forcing bombers to destroy the bases first, I did that anyway. But, the way Gaijin has gone about it has been wrong and I believe, in the long term, will drive a lot of players away.

Anyway, that's my two pennyworth worth. Got all my bonuses. Leaving my aircraft to repair overnight.

Good night all.

1. Battles played in arcade - 6000 battles

2. Preferred aircraft class - fighter/bomber/attacker 320hrs fighters/ 450hrs bombers/ 110hrs attackers, so bombers/fighter-bombers.

.

3. Are the changes noticeable? yes

4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly.  Yes, Once again a Yer-2 squad and or a teams with 3 plus Yer-2s still can bomb out all three mini-bases along with the airfield, before ground units run out.

5. Gameplay became

About the same, how so, well if the bombers play to win in arcade, games still are over in 5-8mins there are just so few objective based ground targets.

Now also considering that ground units are poor targets for RP gain most bombers and even fighters will still go for mini-bases/supply depots and yes by the time average bomber players destroy even a single or two supply depots, its so late in the match that they should be hitting the few ground targets left but again the RP gain is so low, so hmm yes this stopped quite a few bombers from airfield strikes.

Yes it did stop 'airfield rushes' but question is why was'nt the Yer-2 series brought into line with the other two-engine bombers in terms  payload. Why penalize a good portion of this game's bomber lines instead of 'balancing' the one bomber line that is still capable of destroying three mini-bases and a airfield before a ticket counter runs out...

Today's hotfix brought some changes into arcade gameplay

1. Spawn heaight has been changed - fighters now spawn 1000 m lower and bombers 1500m lower.

2. Enemy airfield can now be destroyed only after all enemy bases are destroyed.

We try fix the bomber rush issue that is a concern to a lot of players. This update should change the situation and prevent the airfield bombing rush tactics

Hasnt did a thing for spawn campers

^Of course it didn't. Fixing spawn camping requires changing how spawn works. Increasing/decreasing spawn altitude will not fix it.

No, but I'm quite enjoying the easier spawn camping of bombers at their lower altitude, and I've also shelved my bombers until they change things.

Ok something has just changed with the Mini-Bases their health pools are extremely low, and hence the rewards are also very low now. If they stay this low, games will be over oh so fast..

Its been confirmed as a Arcade bug:

1. 1800+ arcade battles.

2. I do not discriminate against Bombers, Fighters or those planes that swing both ways.

3. The following in blue added after more time with the new changes:

Yes, noticeable. Noticeably worse for bomber balance, also better for countering AF kills. Many bombers players seem to take a line of the Yer playbook of diving early because the reduced spawn gap pretty much nullified any chance of fighters not chewing them up. Fighters can more easily reach bomber altitude and then gain speed before the attack and line up his near helpless target as he likes it. This pretty much destroys any chance of a bomber evading pursuers. And because it is now so quick and easy to get to a bomber, more fighters seem to be doing it.

4. Yes. Was pretty easy with any support that was halfway decent. Soloed a fair few bases with Yer and non Yer. The latter is significantly harder due to smaller bombload and more limited line-up of bombers. already usually bombed out the three bases before I started on the AF because I did not want to spoil things too much for other players. So for me these latest change to base bombing does not change all that much.

5. This patch? Hard to tell just yet. Seems a lot of give and take, it looks like. Hotfix, not solution, at best. But cumulative with the last few patches, it is just a disaster for bombers. Seems slightly worse for bombers that can climb. But Wellingtons and He-111 suffer very badly. Unable to climd those are now in easy reach of even those that cannot be bothered to climb after the other bombers. So the weak bombers are disproportionally hit by these changes. Yer-2 remains disproportionally powerful compared to the other bombers.

6. This whole bomber thing got to be a problem when nerf after nerf reduced them to one trick ponies, the trick being base killing.

Now that bombers are not distracted by attacking ground targets they got rather good at a thing they did not used to do all that often. Which ruined the match for everyone else. So then they got nerfed into not being so capable of doing that one  thing any more either.

Bombers are pretty much not that great to play any more. It is extremely rare to evade or fight off fighters and on the occasion that you manage it you ruin everyone else's fun by bombing the bases and shortening the match to a ridiculous degree. That last part has gotten a bit better and will by the look of the new changes get better still.

But flying a bomber is very far from the experience that it once was, though.

You guys need to stop with ad hoc improvisations and hotfixes to balance bombers that break more then that they fix. Have a serious, experienced game designer on board to give it a good think before you implement a comprehensive solution that is fair to everyone.

Ive noticed all they do now is send out 3-6 bombers at one time..

New mini patch (1.37.45.50) brought lower HP of Mini-Bases and Airfields again..Many of my yesterdays battles ended after 4-5 minutes, when 6-7 Heavy/Medium Bombers just overruned Mini-Bases and struck directly to the airfield...

Intercept fighters couldn't shoot them down in a time, cause were to many of them...

In next days I expect infest of of them and again current broken balance will be completely hit to the ground..

^Thank you, I thought I was losing it for a second.  My 8 250kg bombs, and 3 1000lb bombs will now eliminate a mini base on one pass.  A guy was just arguing with me about this in a match saying "NO NO NO IT DIDN'T CHANGE YOU MUST DROP 12,000LBS!"  He was dropping huge loads on the mini base and he swore that the only reason the game ended quickly is because everyone had high bomb loads.

1. Battles played in arcade -
A dozen battles maybe
2. Preferred aircraft class - fighter/bomber/attacker
I like variation
3. Are the changes noticeable? yes/no
Yes
4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly. Yes/no
Yes (Bases go down faster, much faster - only 1 pass with my Wellington)
5. Gameplay became better/worse/did not change
Still undecided, it might tip a bit too much in favour for fast light bombers. Taking out the bases as requirement to bomb the airbase is good (it makes no sense but hey, it's a game)
6. My thoughts in general
It's a dangerous life as bomber, we climb like bricks - I'd like to see fighters work a bit for their money.
Bombers need something done about their Turret aim (the F6 view), hitting stuff is strange there. Many bombers fly like feathers in AB (at least with combat flaps). Bombs hit **** when it comes to ground targets like tanks - they evade like crazy.

1. Battles played in arcade - __2768__ battles

2. Preferred aircraft class -         fighter/bomber/attacker  Love em all. But I am always grinding a new one. Grinding is what this game is about. It´s all about the journey.

3. Are the changes noticeable?                                           YES

4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly.    NO

5. Gameplay became    LONGER

6. My thoughts in general

Bombers are easy targets. VERY and TO easy.
Raise bomber spawnheight to at least 5500m and let me choose if I want to spawn with fighters in my bomber

There are many very dedicated bomberhunters who certenly dont mind climbing to get an easy kill.

Do something about spawncamping. If there are spawncampers in my game I make like a tree. Making my fellow gamers very happy.

MM is not well is it? Why mix tier 2-3-4 if there are 15-20.000 players online and 1500 to 2000 battles.

The battlerating is not good either.  Example: Wellington in tier 4...!?  How lame is that.

Few fixes and this game feels new again.

And bring in ALL the prototypes and paperplanes. After all it´s a game.

I WANT PROTOTYPES.

DO 335 Arrow was not even a prototype. It was operational.  Stand and deliver the fastest piston engine fighter of WW2.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor is there somewhere. Deliver it ASAP

My two cent´s: Keep WW2 era separated from Korean war/cold war.

1. Battles played in arcade - Some 340~ battles
2. Preferred aircraft class - Most sorties in fighters, but I do enjoy playing attacker, fighter, bomber, pretty much anything. Depends on what's needed and what my squad mates are flying.
3. Are the changes noticeable? Not overly noticable.. Sometimes it feels like fighters reach bomber altitude faster and you get ripped a new one by Yak 9s or Cobras, but that usually just makes me ragequit after happening several times in a row.
4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly. Lolnope. But I do have to say that the Wellington with 4000lb + something with smaller bombs can easily do a one-two punch where the Welli delivers the 4000lb and the other bomber finishes up the bomb target.
5. Gameplay became better/worse/did not change - In bombers it got a bit worse since fighters reach you incredibly fast, but it's still one of the easiest ways to get RP. Just hover above the battlefield dropping bombs on the bases and airfields.
6. My thoughts in general - There's nothing wrong with bombers per se, there's something wrong with how the system, apart from the bombers themselves, work. I think the RP gain is pretty much where it should be, but it should be harder and take longer to take out the targets that are there (Bases and airfields).

1. Battles played in arcade  12000+
2. Preferred aircraft class Fighter, but usually always have one bomber or ground attack craft to support the team
3. Are the changes noticeable? A lot less 5 min games. But with a concerted effort it can still happen
4. Our/enemy team managed to destroy bases and airfield quickly: No, this hasnt happened for a while
5. Gameplay became better/worse/did not change  It has become better in respect to bomber rush.
6. My thoughts in general It has been an overall improvement, however more thought needs to be put into how bombing and ground attack works in general. It is still hard for those who choose to be primarily bombers to contribute to the team. A thought might be to allow bombers to spawn before, but further out than fighters, so by the time the fighters spawn bombers are either 1-2km above their heads or behind them still climbing. Either way, it kind of needs to be imperative that bombers win the game, and need protecting in order to do so. This would be more historically accurate, and force more people to play as a team.

I havent been on war thunder that long I think it was since 1.35 and the fact that every enemy base needs to be destroyed in otder to capture the airfiels is unneccesary. Bombers should to at least a little bit of damage to enemy airfields which can then make it easier to cap. Hope I made sense

You can't capture airfields. I mean, there's domination, where you capture them, and ground target, where you blow them up. But really, I'd rather have the magical forcefield removed and just change the win condition to needing all three minibuses and the airfield.

Can't believe this patch still didn't get reversed... bombers like the Wellingtons are useless now. They nearly always encounter fighters at the same ALT before even reaching the bombing targets and simply get chewed up with no fighting chance! This is so awful...
